I never said that your value was far off for an AAV. What I was saying was that for an offer sheet at the number you provided that is another joke and weak attempt to land a player like the Aho attempt. Offer sheets are meant to over pay star players to put pressure on the team's cap situation or for a team to acquire a great player who is getting over payed. The Jet's wouldn't stress for 7 million, in fact that would solve the stalemate.
Don't get me wrong I would love for him to sign for around or under 6 but that's not realistic at all. A realistic bridge deal for Laine is around 7.25 +/- 250k, depending on how far the Jets would stretch.
Now since we know that's what his contract is most likely going to look like, you cannot submit offer sheet for that number which is probably around or even less then what they are going to pay and assume they will not match.
Just like Aho, that would be around the AAV he would have received without an offer sheet being submitted. The only change the offer sheet made was his money up front and the fact that his contract walks him to free agency.
Not to mention the player would have to agree and sign the offer sheet.
Want to really ruffle the Jets' feathers? Throw 10+ million at Laine, which no team would probably do anyways.
