I would love it if Wild Could take Johnson off Tampa's hands but Wild don't have the cap space for him now or in the near future.

The $15m of the cap going to Parise and Spurgeon really hurts. The fact they both have NMCs makes it even worse.

Kaprizov, Fiala and Eriksson Ek Contract Values
I've had the 3 of them as a combined $15m-$20m.
For Fiala, I could see getting a shorter term Granny type of deal that takes him to his UFA years: 3 x $6m. I think he's a guy that is going to bet on himself getting a bigger payday as a UFA.
For Kaprizov, I can't really say. The guy is outstanding and getting better as the season goes on. His payday just keeps getting high and higher.
For JEE I have him in the $5m-$6m range with term.

Calder
I feel like I'm not overreacting here, but Kirill feels like a lock for the Calder. Kid has been fun to watch, there is always the possibility of injury 🤞.
Also I'm fearing Greenway is starting to Coyle again. I could see him being the first trade if he doesn't have a bounce back game soon.

The 3rd line being good shouldn’t dictate whether that makes your top 6 worse, as is the case now. If it doesn’t work, out the old lines back together and watch them jump right back to it.</div></div>
The 3rd line has been the 1st line in terms of 5v5 ToI, or at least were before last game.

2021-22 Very Unlikely but could happen
Minnesota traded Zucker to make room in the top 6 for Kaprizov, who has pretty much been as advertised. I don't think they're taking Zucker back and they're sure as hell not giving up a 1st to do it. Unlikely doesn't really describe this scenario, ridiculous is probably more appropriate.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mnwild1790</b></div><div>By FAR our biggest need right now. But, do you think we eventually trade him regardless? Since it sounds like Guerin wants to keep Foligno which would probably force a 7/3/1 expansion setup</div></div>
Nope, Guerin doesn't have to, and Wild fans aren't going to like the answer.
You don't move Dumba just to protect Foligno. You go 4x4-1, protect Eriksson-Ek and Dumba. Then make a deal with Seattle so they don't take Foligno. Guerin is already on record saying that's what he'll do if it comes to that.
Edit: But I do actually think Dumba will get moved here at some point though.

-Damn Kaprizov is good.
-Fiala may not have scored but he sure was effective offensively. I also think the bad ice slowed Fiala down or else he would've had an even bigger impact on the game.
-Talbot was ok. Shaky at parts, but settled in by the 3rd period
-Greenway looked to impose his will physically. Hope to see more of that and see the results pay off!
-All new additions not named Kaprizov were non-existent. I'll give them a pass since this is like preseason for all of them. But they need to mesh, and quickly.
-We NEED to be better in the faceoff circle. That was brutal to watch most critical draws go LA's way.
-And to finish it off: Damn Kaprizov is good.</div></div>
How was Bonino? He at least did well on faceoffs, no one else really seemed to.

NHL.com's summary of players making their debut, aside from Kaprizov.
"Bonino was 13-for-20 on face-offs, <strong>Johansson had one hit in 17:29 of ice time</strong>, and Bjugstad had one shot and one hit in 13:27"
So we acquired Johansson for his grit, right? Please? lol

year down
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SociallyHawkward</b></div><div>Idk. As a hawks fan strome lit it up for a season and only got 3 mil. If Fiala has a great season I still can't see him getting more than a 5 mil 5 year deal.</div></div>
Strome experienced notable fallback from his trade year (in his contract year). He also was playing with elite players.... and happened to take a bridge deal due to the Hawks cap situation and the state of the league / world.
Hawks fans generally like to compare situations on other teams to the hawks (aside: i mean i get it, but why does it seem like hawks fans do this more than other teams??) but theres no comparing Strome and Fiala.
- Fiala has already had his bridge deal. Players come off bridges either aiming to go to FA, or to get money. Strome is 2 years behind... essentially getting what Fiala already did.
- Fiala already had a proven year in Nashville, followed by a down year that sparked the trade
- His explosion was on a different tier from Stromes.
- Fiala became the face of Minnesota. the faces of Chicago are long established. Your profile picture is one of said faces. Minnesota had no face, then Fiala exploded.
- He's doing this alone. There's not really any star power on this team. he has become a star, and plays with undeniable energy and determination. Watching him late last season, in the playoffs, and even this first game tonight... you know when he is on the ice. He's the teams best player; and I note again that he is able to do this essentially alone. There's no Toews or Kane, heck, there's no DeBrincat level players on this team.
If he builds on the past two years, and at the age of 24, continues to grow, I see no reason why MIN won't hand him a big boy long term contract now. It's the same type of betting on the future that happened with Keller and Hischier. Except I'd argue there's more to look forward to in this case, and more already proven than those two cases.
Wild fans can chime in ( <a href="/users/TanSor" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@TanSor</a> <a href="/users/MNBassman" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@MNBassman</a> ), but if he exceeds all odds again this year and decides to ink long term, I'd expect at least 6.5M....

Captain Spurgeon
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mnwild1790</b></div><div>100% agree. Although I still think Parise would make a heck of a captain, his uncertain future after speaking to the media would make me question (from a players perspective) how much he really wants to be there? Or will he want to jump ship if we continue to lose? Definitely need a captain who's 100% committed and that seems to be Spurgeon. I like the pick.</div></div>
I wouldn't have minded Foligno, but him not having a contract after this year probably makes it harder to justify. Can't really extend him now unless they're going the 7-3 expansion route and exposing your captain isn't probably a solid move. Maybe they find a way to unload Parise or Suter and Foligno can wear an A.

Not really a surprise. Spurgeon is a fantastic player signed long term, good move imo.
While I always thought Parise was going to be the next captain, crying to the media about only having so many chances is generally a bad leader move.

Minnesota Wild 2021 season preview
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mnwild1790</b></div><div>My goal for the year as this: Youth improvement and Reviving Veterans.
Greenway, Fiala, Kaprizov, Ek, Addison (maybe), Rossi (maybe), and Kakhonen (although in backup role) all will need to step up if we are to move forward as a franchise. I think Rossi will make the team, but they may want him to develop another year in Switzerland. Addison is unlikely to make the team but I would still love to see him fight for a spot.
As for the veterans, they know their roles. Bonino, Johansson, and Bjugstad were all brought in to shake things up while still providing players who, when healthy and at top form, can play really well. The key is "when healthy and at top form." What players are we getting? Only time will tell. All players know that, with one year left, this is their opportunity to showcase that they're worthy assets to a team.
If both those two things happen, we'll be fine. But here's where I see us:
Offense: Average. This can change quickly if Kaprizov clicks right away and Fiala picked up where he left off. But we'll have to wait and see on that. If they aren't able to carry the load offensively, we'll have a hard time competing.
Defense: Elite. I'm biased but we are elite defensively. Good in our own zone, good with puck movement, I could sing our praises all day...the only (and biggest) question is...
Goaltending: ? That's right. I have no clue. What Cam Talbot are we getting? I hope to God it's the pre-2018 Talbot. If it's post-2018 Talbot, may God have mercy on our souls...
Anyways, my prediction is that we finish 6th in the Division. I hope I'm wrong but that's how I feel.</div></div>
I'll take 2020 playoffs Talbot. If Wild get that then they could be a dangerous team. I am concerned about the system changes under Dean as Wild may not be as sound defensively, however they are bringing in a more aggressive offensive system so that is exciting.
