Draft Day Shenanigans Part Deux!!
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clark</b></div><div>unfortunately players with a taste of winning (seabrook) aren't waiving their nth/nmc to last place teams in all likelihood. arizona has has taken on contracts that doesn't cost them any money like ltir players. really difficult for hawks or any team to trade overpaid players. near cap teams can't afford them. near floor teams can find other ways to spend or not spend real money.</div></div>
That's a good point. That might throw a hick-up into things and would be a difficult hurdle to overcome. But CHI did get Hjalmarsson to waive his NMC...so having former Hawks (and no Krueger) on ARI would have to be part of the sell if they would try to convince Seabrook or whoever it might be that they are trying to trade. Maybe Anisimov would be a better fit. He would still be a tough sell because he gets to play with Kane on a regular basis, but ARI has some talented young F's like Keller so that might help convince him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>timmeejr</b></div><div>Almost everyone who has signed in tamp recently has taken team-friendly deals...INCLUDING KRUCHEROV...
Also Trouba is the only realistic deal I see here.</div></div>
Thanks for the post. You're right that a good amount of TBL's players have signed team-friendly deals. However, Kucherov's deal is not necessarily one of them. He is still on his second contact that he signed before broke out and he was leading the league in scoring. They will need space to re-sign him when his current contract is up after the 18-19 season. He will be make at very least the same as Stamkos, probably a bit more. Maybe around 9-9.5 million (similar to Crosby and Malkin's contract situations) . Trading Johnson, along with some of the older D's contracts expiring, will clear up a good amount of space that will allow TBL to sign Kucherov, Point and Vasilevsky. All are younger and core pieces for TBL moving forward.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RobbStark03</b></div><div>Galchenyuk isn't getting traded for spare parts. He might not be the #1 center according to Bergevin, but you don't give away your most skilled forward just because he doesn't play the position you thought he would (and all stats confirm he should be a center, but that's a different debate).</div></div>
Thanks for the post. I agree with you that Galchenyuk was drafted as a C and should be used as one. From the past few seasons, there isn't a lot of evidence supporting that MTL will use him in that position. Even with coaching change, he was still slotted as a W for most of the season. Galchenyuk was also up and down the line-up throughout the first half of the season. From looking at the way MTL has used him, it seems that they don't know what he is or where he fits on their team. That's where I drew my argument that a fresh start might be needed for both parties.
Now you make a good point that ARI may need to throw another or a different player in the mix to solidify the trade. If ARI gave up a B F prospect, that might finish the deal. Maybe they would be willing to trades Strome. That could be a very good possibility.

Draft Day Shenanigans Part Deux!!
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jgimp69</b></div><div>Myers is worth the 28th overall! If you wanted Trouba the 28th isn’t even close. Opening the negotiations by offering that 5th OA would simply keep Chevy from hanging up the phone. Considering a 5th is 1-2 years away from being a roster player, you would have to add. A top pair RHD garners a lot more than what you offered</div></div>
Thanks for the post. From a analytics standpoint and comparing both players' ice times and situational use, Myers has actually had more valuable than Trouba this year for WPG. Some of the those numbers may be tainted because of the amount of games he missed this season, however Myers is currently slotted on the second unit PP, Trouba does not play PP minutes. There is not denying and I agree with you that Trouba has a highers ceiling and is still developing, so from that standpoint, he is of greater long term value for the Jets. But looking at the other core players that I mentioned in my post, who WPG is going to have to sign, I still see Trouba as the odd man out. WPG will become a salary cap team in 2-3 years because of how well they have drafted and how strong the team has played-it's a good problem to have. You may be right and ARI might have to throw in one of their D prospects into the mix to get the deal done. But if WPG can get a 1st round pick and decent D prospects, in addition to getting to the conference finals (and they way win the whole thing if they're able to do that), they are getting good value for trading Trouba.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clark</b></div><div>there is no benefit to the Hawks trading Hossa if he stays on LTIR. if hossa even remotely thinks he might return playing, why does he waive his nmc.
jets can afford trouba for at least two years. if traded he would get a lot better than a late round pick.</div></div>
Thanks for the post. Yeah, I'll give you that. Although it looks like his career is over, trading him for what I have here is a reach. Wishful thinking haha. ARI would have to negotiate to take on one of the big contract, maybe 50% of Seabrook's contract. I think CHI would make the deal for that and maybe a B/C prospect. Cap room is probably the most valuable focus for CHI at this time and if they are able to get rid of a chunk of a contact like Seabrook's and the roster space, I think they would make the deal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SirCharles</b></div><div>Hortons cap value is not ever going to be an issue</div></div>
Yep, you're definitely right that it's not an issue right now. But TOR needs to make improvements on the back end and will need all the space they can get while trying to do that and while also trying to re-sign Matthews, Nylander, Marner and Kapanen. I see Kapanen as the odd man out in that equation. TOR might be able to move some players around to make room for all of them, but cap relief by trading money and getting some type of assets for Kapanen isn't too lofty of a solution. The overall trade is somewhat of a reach, but it's also pretty reasonable.

Playoff bound?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>J_Sand3rs</b></div><div>If the Stars are in playoff contention, they aren't going to trade a defenseman that has helped them get there (Honka). The Stars issues have come because we take terrible contracts for veteran players that are declining quickly (Hjalmarsson falls in that category). You'd be better off looking at our prospects in the AHL or CHL instead of trying to trade for a guy on our NHL roster.</div></div>
That's a fair point. You're right, DAL would more likely trade a player that wasn't on their active roster in order to build for the playoffs. The trade was based off of Honka's current status on the team and was partially based on how his development with DAL has been lagging this season. A fresh start somewhere might be good for him. If Honka was still in limbo with DAL and DAL also gained a D with cup experience and solid 1st round prospect like Merkley, who is producing in his first year in the AHL, I think they might think about it. Hjalmarsson could also act as a bit younger and a short term fill in for Hamuis, play similar games a this stage of their career. Fair to make those arguments?

Well done. Pateryn is a bit of a sleeper in terms of being a strong d-zone D. Strong Corsi, while playing against most of the leagues top lines and was in the top ten for d-zone starts in 17-18. Sustr might also be a good option as a UFA if they didn't want to trade Carrick and assets for Gudas. Has good size, plays a heavy game in his d-zone and has playoff experience.
I'd be curious to see if TOR would be able to get a mores skilled winger, either by trade or free agency to play with JT with the extra cap room. Brown can produce and is versatile, but if TOR can play him more as a bottom 6 F, they could rival the depth of NSH or PIT.
