100% agreed. Original trade for him was 7 & 39. I don't see DeBrincat's value being 18, 43, Kubalik and Buium after a worse year on a better team and a $9m+ qualifying offer needed.
Like the player, not at that price.

so what do we do now
I think Berggren is also hurt, scratched last night in GR. Huge bummer for the team, got a hot start going then lost 2 of the top 6 immediately.
Hopefully Bert's back on time. Vrana we can only hope he gets whatever help he needs.

I'd put Perron at RW2, force Zadina to take his spot or stay on 3rd line with Suter and Kubalik.

2023-24 Season
Not even sure where to start.
You completely overvalue all the Habs players thinking all those 1sts are coming back for them. Not even sure which is worst, no one says yes. Even before they all struggled last year I think these trades are heavily lopsided.
You just acquired Dadonov for nothing and now think you can flip him for a 1st+23yr old winger
You think Tkachuk is signing for 8x$7.5m, Calgary's resigning him if that was the ask. Anderson does Calgary no good if they re trading Tkachuk and letting Gaudreau walk, 2 later firsts arent helping.
Love the optimism but this aint it

Its shocking to me that JVR 1x$7m is treated as a cap dump but Josh Anderson with 5x$5.5 and Petry at 3x$6.5m have value. Dallas says no. Philly screams it.

Another Wasted Season Playoffs in 2024
They'll have to make some signings, both to make the cap floor and because I dont see Veleno as 2C/not all these young D will be ready to play. Realistically, this team can't just slow roll their way through the rebuild anymore either. Have to make some big signings eventually.
I think one of the obvious ones is Copp if they can pry him out of NY. They'll also need to get someone with some experience at LD, Petterson (PIT) and Schmidt (WPG) are always popular but maybe Yzerman can swing and get Provorov or Hague this year.
Personally I think 8x$8.5 is too much for Larkin unless he takes another step.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GenericUsername489</b></div><div>Drop 3 rounds (not this season), Weber is $2m more cap hit for $2m less actual money over a longer term, which helps Arizona hit the floor easier without committing as large of a financial commitment while they work their s**t out.</div></div>
I think Weber/Littles actual salary would be covered by insurance unless they were injured when signing the contract (idk that for sure), Yotes are like $12m below the floor with 6-7 roster spots to fill, just seems like a high price for small cap hit gain when they could probably get actual roster players for less (or even get picks for taking them).
Either way, not losing sleep over it, just dont understand why this type of Weber to AZ trade keeps popping up because I don't see Montreal GETTING picks for an LTIR player unless a cap crunched team has to do some preseason shenanigans to be compliant on opening day.

flyers move some big pieces
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ReelBigFan</b></div><div>I guess it could be a cap dump, but I assume Quick would rather retire. And if it is a cap dump then there’s a good amount of value missing honestly. Kaliyev is definitely promising but also unproven, and if the kings make the playoffs again the pick is already mid-late which I think definitely isn’t enough for a top pair D of that age and contract…
Maybe that’s just me, but if that is a cap dump I think there’s another decent piece coming back
If it’s not a cap dump, Philly is already loaded with young goalies trying to find a way to push Hart out… Fed looked fantastic overseas. Very poise and agile… if that game is brought over here I think Hart will be expendable, but this would hurt the chances of even giving him a shot…</div></div>
Idk, Quick and the 3rd dont really move the needle for me. I dont think Quick is worth anything (LA probably wants the $5.8m more than Quick considering Cal's extension kicks in next season). 3rds are low hit rate. Philly cant use Quick like you said, so maybe they flip him with retention. Considering the usual goalie market, he's probably still not worth much. With or without those pieces, I think Philly is getting the better deal.
Provorov is very good but I'm impressed with Kaliyevs production given how little ice time he had (and I assume next to no PP time). Long term, I'd say 1st + Kaliyev > Provorov.
If LA is underwhelmed with the Byfield/Turcotte/Vilardi crew and decides to push all in with Kopitar/Doughty/Kempe/Denault/Arvidsson, they have to address the defense and I think Philly accepts Kaliyev+1st (probably protected) for Provorov all day. Blake has never traded a 1st round pick though so not sure he'd even offer that.

I gotta think Quick is a cap dump for LA here otherwise the trade doesnt make sense to me. Kaliyev is very promising and that 1st could be high next year. Those 2 pieces I think are move valuable than Provorov and a 3rd. I dont think Quick cap dump makes it even but if LA wants a top 4 D and cap space to make an all-in push, they might do it.

you're about to get a lot of upset Wings fans here.
Everyone has basically agreed Petterson for a 3rd from Det, so you're valuing Kapanen as a Bertuzzi + move from 3rd to 2nd round.

Unless they plan on signing him to a big extension right after the trade, this doesn't make sense.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PredsWingsFan</b></div><div>Cool with Schmidt, but options for Winnipeg are limited when it comes to moving a CAP like that. I wouldn't offer more than a 4th or a 4th & 7th..
I think Provorov takes a little bit of sweetening but possible. Might have to add a decent prospect. but like people have mentioned, might not be worth it if you dont think you can keep him when his UFA comes up. If you think you can keep him or the value of him for 3 years is greater than what you give up... great.. but i still think you need a little more here.
I like Hinostroza and Copp. I think your overpaying both though. You pay both those guys that much and your setting yourself to pay Larkin, Bert, etc. Copp has been explosive since going to New York.. does he keep that fire or is that just from being traded? I dont see any team really offering over $5M. Hinostroza is your $1.5-2M depth forward. if he is lucky he gets Erne money.
Personally I would just re-sign Gagner who had more points, is a personality on the team and wont take $3M to sign.</div></div>
Yeah in my mind Provorov should be good for 7+ years so you resign him as your veteran on D. He’s in the same age range as Larkin/Bert/Vrana so I think it’d work. I don’t think the Wings can compete within Larkins window with all homegrown D.
I think Copp gets more than $5m, $7m maybe too much, I’d split the difference at 6x$6m and be good with it. Hinostroza is just a guy, I’d be fine with Gagner resigning instead.

Maybe I am selling a bit too low for Provorov. Provy is the better player, that's why I added the 2nd. Hronek is younger/next contract still under team control. Counting stats are pretty close the last couple years, underlying lean Provy, but Hronek was on all time bad teams so hard for me to want to send too much more back.
What would you add from the Wings side?

Agreed, the way i read the rule was the player can't be traded back within a year if the original trade had retained salary with it. Since there was no retained salary on the original trade, I think he can be sent back to NYI retained. Even if there was I don't think it'd matter because he's UFA so the rule is different there too.

Balanced Offseason
Nothing egregious here - everything seems to be roughly in the value range I've seen. I can dig it.
Demko is worth taking and hoping he's your guy for the future.
I think you'd want to try to make that Islanders 1st rounder not top 10 protected for an extra (albeit unlikely) ticket to the Shane Wright lotto. Worth it to drop the 3rd to get in unprotected? Idk, I like to gamble.
I like Bennett as a middle 6 guy, he's shown he can produce in the playoffs. Regular season is another story.
I don't LOVE Johnson so high 3rd round is probably as high as I'd go. Leafs fans might hate me for this, sorry.

No scenario the Wings give the 63rd pick up for de Haan. giving up assets for a 29yr old with 2 years left doesn't fit their rebuild. Hawks could buy him out and still be cap compliant though...
