Description
VAN Trade: This trade has been agreed upon by many Wings and Canucks fans.

NYI Trade: This trade has been agreed upon by some Islanders fans. The 3rd could be dropped to a lower pick if necessary.

CGY Trade: I saw this trade in a Flames ACGM. I think it could make since for the Wings as Bowey doesn't really fit into our long-term future since we're loaded with good prospects at RHD. Bennett would be a guy who could take over Glendening and/or Helm's spot on the Red Wings (Bottom 6/PK) as I'd guess that at least one of them will not be coming back for the 2021-22 season. Bennett could also see some increase in offensive production if given a larger role on the Red Wings. I wouldn't mind throwing in a late pick if we had to.

TOR Trade: Leafs fans seem to want a 2nd for Johnsson but the Red Wings 3rd round pick will very likely be a top-5 pick in the 3rd round. There could maybe be a condition where if Johnsson reaches a certain number of points, the Leafs would receive the latest of the Red Wings 2nd round picks (With the Canucks trade, we have DET, EDM, VAN).

Helm Trade: After acquiring Bennett, we don't really have enough room in our Bottom 6 to allow some younger guys get playing time. I chose to trade Helm but this could also be Filppula or Glendening. With retained salary, I'm guessing he could fetch somewhere around a 4th.

Another Idea?: Evgeny Svechnikov will now be on a 1-way contract which means he will have to pass through waivers if sent to the minors. He will definitely be given the chance to make the Red Wings at the beginning of the year but if he fails to solidify his spot in the lineup, he could be traded.

Free Agents:

Erik Gustafsson: I like the idea of a Gustafsson-Boychuk pairing as Gustafsson is an offensive-defenseman where Boychuk is more of a stay-at-home defenseman. Gustafsson could chose to sign in Detroit as he'd be guaranteed top minutes and PP time which could help him boost his stock for FA next year, Detroit could pay him more than most other teams, and Detroit could afford to retain some salary in a potential trade to a contender at the TDL. If necessary, Detroit could raise the offer to 5 mil.

TDL Bait:

Bernier (Only if Demko breaks out into the clear starting goalie)
Filppula
Glendening
Gustafsson
(Helm (If we choose to trade Glendening or Filppula at the beginning of the season instead))
Nemeth

In this scenario, Detroit takes on 12 million dollars in cap and adds a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and potentially their goalie of the future. They also add some forwards who could play a long-term role on the team in Johnsson and Bennett. Detroit would also be able to add more high-mid draft picks by making trades at the TDL.

I think taking Johnsson will be a bad move. Im not sure Gustafsson will sign in Detroit but if Krug leaves Boston Detroit is at the list.

It depends on what Johnsson costs. If the asking price goes up to a 2nd I think Detroit should be our but if we can get him for a 3rd I think he can have a breakout like Fabbri had last year.

Why do you think he’ll break out? He’s played with some quality line mates and decent ice time. By giving him more minutes probably just offsets his line mates (Matthews, Marner, etc). He’s a risk with his knee and probably tops at middle six winger.

Send Pickard back the other way and van accepts I think. Although the 2nd rounder seems like a lot. Maybe a 3rd instead?

Mostly because he’ll be playing top 6 minutes. It’s a good point that he’s played with some top linemates though.

Pickard could be involved although I doubt he’s a backup goalie at this point. It’s really impossible to tell what cap dumps will cost so it could be a 3rd.

I was thinking throwing in Pickard more along the lines that Canucks have to have 2 goalies who are expansion draft eligible and if they trade Demko and roll with Dipietro as the back up then they don’t meet that rule and have to go sign a UFA goalie. Easier to just take back Pickard as the third string imo since his full cap hit can be buried

That makes sense. He’s expendable so that would be fine.

I'm not sure I'd give up a 3rd for him. He has a cap hit of $3.4M which he got after 1 20g season. Then he had 8 goals this season adjusted its 13 goals. This was playing on one of the best offenses in the league. He comes to Detroit I doubt he score 10 goals in a season. He was a 7th rd pick and that doesn't mean a whole lot but with the rest it's one more red flag for a player that already has a couple. I could be totally wrong but it's I wouldn't take that risk. Detroit will likely get a very good player the draft just like the last couple seasons but are any of those players high end, Elite or generational? Maybe one of ends up being high end but thats about it. So they need to use those picks wisely and Johnsson is just to risk. Even if he stays in Toronto he probably won't score 20g in a single season again.

If the Isles end up needing to move Boychuk cost will probably be what you have. Ideally it doesn't get to the point with Leddy and Hickey traded and Leo and Ladd potentially going on LTIR.

Nothing egregious here - everything seems to be roughly in the value range I've seen. I can dig it.

Demko is worth taking and hoping he's your guy for the future.

I think you'd want to try to make that Islanders 1st rounder not top 10 protected for an extra (albeit unlikely) ticket to the Shane Wright lotto. Worth it to drop the 3rd to get in unprotected? Idk, I like to gamble.

I like Bennett as a middle 6 guy, he's shown he can produce in the playoffs. Regular season is another story.

I don't LOVE Johnson so high 3rd round is probably as high as I'd go. Leafs fans might hate me for this, sorry.

Helm at 50% retention gets at least a 3rd round pick.
