<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>FMarco: How many Plekanecs, Ennis, Reads can the Vegans take?. Seems like Vegas is new cap dumping ground. If I was Vegas, I would rather take Anrighetto as one of my 30 players picked....yes not all 30 drafted players are going to be in the NHL, some are going to be AHL. Have Andrighetto in the AHL, no NHL cap hit and then the Vegans have 6 mill to spend on UFA or make a deal with a team with cap issues.
If the Vegans take Plekanac, then in one year they are almost in the same state as new expansion team....6m to spend on other player.
Admitting taking Plekanec and his expiring contract is better than long term dogs like Brown and Ennis. (I like dogs as pets thought).</i></div></div>

I think you're missing the point that LV isn't going select a team that loses every game in its first season - the idea of Expansion drafting is to ice a semi-competitive team right away and not have to wait 5-10 years to build through drafting. They need fans to survive and your ideology of buy low and build off FA is a bit hard to see happening (Toronto couldn't do it and they had the benefit of past drafts). I'm sure they'll be active during FA but to build the whole team off of it is silly (who are they honestly going to get there?). It's no less "cliche" for a team hater to say that Vegas won't do anything that benefits say the Habs, Plekanec has averaged 50 points a season and is slumping a bit but still could touch 40 and is a contract that they aren't stuck with for long.

I appreciate that the trade may not be quite what people want to see, keep in mind that Anaheim isn't coming from a position of power - Expansion in no uncertain terms threatens there defense. What they have gotten back is a good prospect, an NHL player who may be in the top 4 of some teams and possible two higher draft picks (as the comments stated). I believe this trade makes a lot more sense if you're looking at it from the perspective of the teams overall play - They are fringe playoff and with an LA team that can only get better they may well miss or barely make playoffs.
That all said Vermettes play is not stellar as you said ( 9 points in 27 games) but be that as it may, he was not a must - the comments said he only goes if Desharnais is picked up after injury or goes to the minors. Obviously it will be a matter of how Vermette looks at the deadline period - He has a NMC and if Ducks aren't confident in playoffs you're not going to tell me he's an outrageous player to send off in lieu of protecting others.

What I see is uncertainty as to how they want the team to approach the Fowler situation - if you don't want him traded then nothing will seem fair, if he is the odd man out then you determine what kind of direction you go. Montreal would likely consider a trade sending the likes of Gallagher if that were the perspective, but as you said there's a cap situation. Otherwise you make a deal that offers the players that aren't lost to expansion, as the above does - Beaulieu is tough to say because Anaheim has other players that would be taken before him on the RD. If McCarron isn't ideal then maybe Lehkonen is the focal piece in a trade, but the fact remains that you can't evaluate the trade without perspective (either Fowler is the odd man out or not, it's not a trade that happens if not for Expansion).

We are simple differing on where we see the team; I think they are honestly closer to a deep playoff push than you (matter of opinion).

To speak to the substance of your points: Gardiner represents a legitimate 2nd line LD who will offer PP a better look and youth. Bishops ability speaks for itself, I've seen enough of Helle to say he needs to go back down and work on consistency and shootout/breakaway - positions are earned not given and not allowed to be worked into like our goal is currently (all 3 goalies have had the last year and change to stab at it).

As far as the defense thing: I've watched a lot of Beau and personally like him a lot (should keep playing with Weber) - I can't give much weight here as you're flip flopping saying Trouba has been inconsistent like the others BUT he just has "it" (i get all players possess a ceiling but I'd say they don't all reach it, E.KANE). The reality is Jets are sellers and finding a team that offers a win-win is huge (or we all just believe the Anaheim Limholm trades everyone thinks should happen...) OR we resign Trouba somehow and he continues to underwhelm because we have two better options on RHD

Bozak is admittedly a cap risk as you point out, but what isn't being mentioned is the fact that he is more replacing Little than plugging his spot - LITTLE has been such a band-aid and can't be relied on forever (so maybe we have to see what kind of cap gets retained by TOR or you make Perreault the piece that moves in lieu of Burmi. It's a question of who you see at our 3rd line spot, I personally like depth and would like to have a Jets team that can have either Little or Bozak their (Little getting an assignemnt with Laine and Connor and Bozak with Staff and Matthias - exceptional Offence and Defense respectively).

I recognize the team won't win the cup this year, but if they get these positional deficiencies fixed next year could be a lot different (playoffs). Keep in mind we have cornerstones like Byfuglien (31) who are in all likelihood not going to be competitive if we wait 3 years. As a matter of fact, youth develops as well if not better with a team that doesn't have positional gaps.
