So Habs are shopping for top 4 Defense - Edler fits the bill (he has come-up before on this site): a likely expansion target if Canucks do protect Sbisa, Tanev, and Gubranson. Sending Fucale their way as they likely will lose Miller and get a prospective Goalie, as well Barbs to add nhl depth to the left side due to trade and the pick(s) as bigger substance to the move.
Pleky to Carolina is obviously a cap dump, people will criticize but keep in mind that Expansion stipulates that somthing like 25% of the teams overall cap must be exposed (pleky is a benefit to Carolina and may well be money spent protecting assets). For the nothing cost of Stahlberg, a playoff experienced sizeable/speedy winger (he's a place-sitter but makes alot of sense as they'd probable not sign him anyways). The 3rd pick in their may be overkill, I honestly don't know how much negotiation power we'd have here and lean towards less so a pick may grease the wheel (timing is huge so it may be necessary to overpay).
Again expansion shakes things up, Columbus is a place sitter for this last move: I would consider the below trade for either Jenner (c) or Atkinson (rw) - it is the part which is more of a reach, I would say Jenner is a prime target as hes suited to be our offensive 2nd line C for the future however that may not go. Alternatives would include: Antoine Vermette (NMC may make that a no-go) if Anaheim finds themselves out of contention. Less preferred Center/LW targets would be: Perreault in the peg or Ribiero from Preds.
As far as lineup i'm just going to say it'll be hard to predict with MT at the helm, I like a guy who can play wing or center because that allows flexibility when/if Patches gets back in form on the top line. So in my ideal world Jenner is the guy and he plays Center with the possibility to slide to Left side if DD gets the 2nd line spot for SOME REASON.
Habs protect from expansion: Patchioretty, Galchenyuck, Gallagher, Radulov, Jenner, Shaw, and Edler, Weber, Petry and OBVIOUSLY Price.
Expansion exposed: Emelin, Desharnais, Mitchell, Byron, Beaulieu, and all others of course (they will have to resign DD for him to apply and they would honeslty likely if the habs went deep into playoffs)
That Stalberg trade is terrible. Plekenec for Stalberg straight up is still terrible for Montreal
He's a cap/expansion casualty; I'd agree that a pick likely should come back the other way (for Habs) but as above, Habs are sellers and depending on when that trade happens it may not be such a position of power. For instance, pleky's numbers remain on this pace after Christmas.
