Tatar
I don’t think we brought back Girgensons- who wears an “A” -
to sit in the pressbox
I’m not against bringing in Tatar,
but I’d say the likely scratch from the lineup would end up being Jost
Though, it’s more likely imo, that we fill Quinn’s spot with what we already have

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Knuckl3s</b></div><div>Beauvillier has nothing to do with fixing the back end, I never said he did, so think before you yourself get so defensive. Olofsson is still just a one trick pony, that's why his value is fairly limited. Lastly, Girgensons is such a good leader, why has he only gotten a 1 year deal?</div></div>
Then wtf did u bring up our lack of defensive IQ on the backend like it had ANYTHING at all to do with this???
And idc about Olofsson’s “value”
His 1 trick is a pretty important one- gotta score to win
And he’s not just a PP guy, he’s become MUCH better 5v5
Girgs was signed to a 1 year deal, like Okposo, bc they’re older & we have A TON of young forward talent coming to replace them
But just bc we have better talented youth coming, doesn’t mean they aren’t valued players/leaders on our team
One or both of them may be signed to another 1year deal after this- we are transitioning from their leadership to the next group that’ll take over- Tuch, Dahlin, Cozens
But since Girgs & Okposo are STILL effective in their roles- getting the tough defensive assignments every night- there’s no reason to rush any of the kids into it
*although Krebs & Cozens & Quinn have been growing as 2way players as well- especially Krebs
Instead of acting like u know what’s going on with the Sabres,
u can just ask & I’ll let ya know
You’re clearly making a bunch of assumptions that just aren’t true
You’re way off though, so I’ll make it clear as possible
<strong>The Sabres are NOT looking for forward help</strong>
We are loaded up front, & have more talent coming than we’ll even be able to fit into our lineup

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Knuckl3s</b></div><div>Sabres still lack defensive IQ on the back end, adding Clifton and Johnson doesn't suddenly fix that. Secondly, don't tell me they actually want to keep Victor Olofsson around. Girgenson's extension, even though it's only for 1 year, is still a headscratcher. Jordan Greenway playing as high as 3LW does NOT equate to plentiful depth</div></div>
Jfc, you’re all over the place now
Just bc some clowns on here think we are gonna dump Olofsson, doesn’t mean we don’t value a 25+ goal scorer
Our coach has history with Greenway & likes him,
although i could do without him
Girgs wears an “A” for a reason- good 2way player & leader for us- same with Okposo
And idk what Beauvillier has to do with fixing our SUPPOSED lack of defensive IQ on the backend????
Pick a lane & stay in it
Actually, nvmd, just get off at the next exit

1C is Thompson
2C is Cozens
And Savoie wouldn’t even be 3C, that’s Mittelstadt or Krebs
Savoie most likely starts on the wing
U don’t seem to know much about our lineup dude….
Idk what holes in our forward group u think we “NEED” to fill,
but we are in very good shape and plenty deep
We wouldn’t be dependent on ANY of those young kids playing anything more than a limited role where they’d be sheltered

Based on what
EXACTLY how many AHL games did u watch Kulich & Rousek in?
And Savoie is entering his draft year +2 season
Most top10 picks are ready by them, and keeping him in juniors again isn’t gonna do much more for his development
He’s (at the very least) on the borderline

What Could The Flames Look Like With These Trades
Maybe from the Sabres- MAYBE
On one hand,
i don’t think it’s a move we are looking to make
But,
it would free Krebs up to move off of our defensive line,
and onto a line where he could be more of a 2way center instead of just focusing on the tough defensive assignments
So it could make sense for us in that way
In Fantasy GM land, i think I’d do it
In reality, i think it’s an intriguing possibility

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Affectionate_Side_64</b></div><div>Of course you need to take the right step but that step seems so obvious. You have Mario Lemieux Lite as your 1C, Dylan Cozens who is the type of center you win cups with as your 2C, two elite defensemen on the backend and incredible forward depth to fill out your roster elsewhere. With Scheifele apparently being available as well I'd even try to include him in that deal. You say you're a couple years away but that move immediately vaults you into top 2 in the Atlantic beside the Leafs IMO. Boston has taken a step back, Tampa has taken a step back. If your management has the stones to pull it off then you're a legitimate threat to win the cup. Hellebuyck is a top 3 goalie in the league...</div></div>
I don’t think we are there yet

If they carry 3 goalies,
That means they can only carry 8 defensemen (with no extra forwards)
So at minimum, 1 defenseman will still have to go
This is pretty simple math, lol

With regards to Hellebuyck, any reward that great comes with some amount of risk. The way I see it, you guys have acquired every piece you need to be a cup winner and goaltending remains the only question mark.
Having Cozens and Thompson as your top 2 centers signed for less than 8 mil long term is dreamy. Having Dahlin, Power and Samuelsson as the foundation of your D core for years to come is unfair. Then you add the talent you have at wing with guys like Tuch, Peterka, Skinner (for now), Quinn, Krebs etc.; add further your wealth of blue chip forward prospects like Benson, Savoie, Rosen, Ostlund; tradeable assets like Middelstadt and Oloffson; as well as your incredible amount of cap space and... man, Bringing in Hellebuyck gives you at least 5 years where you're a top 4 team in the leaue in my opinion. That to me is one of those rosters where a cup is just inevitable.
I understand there's risk involved, but in my opinion there's equal risk in not making a move like that as well. Look at Edmonton; if they had pulled off a trade for a player of Hellebuyck's caliber just as they were entering their window it's hard to believe they wouldn't have at least one cup to their name.
Your roster is incredible, it's time to take that next big step in my opinion...</div></div>
I agree in principle
BUT
We don’t just need to take a “big step”
We need to take the “right” step
Hellebuyck is likely good for around half of his extension
If i thought he was the missing piece to a Cup, then I’d agree we should go for it & get him
But even if we got a good goalie, i still think we are a couple years away
Youngest team in the league, and very young at important spots- & young teams are inconsistent af
Plus, in another year or 2, we’ll have more significant decline from Boston & Toronto & Tampa, 3 big hurdles in our way
So if we’re still a couple years away,
how many more years after that can we reasonable project for Hellebuyck to be Cup winning caliber?
2 more, maybe?
And then having him on the books for 4 years after that could become detrimental to our chances of winning the Cup
Idk…..
if we did it, i wouldn’t “hate” it
But i bet i would about halfway through his extension

Just to clarify, I think you're far from a dumping ground and would consider your roster one of the more desirable starting points of any team in the league. That said, the embarrassment of riches you have with regards to cap and assets should leave you no excuse for not going out and getting a legitimate starter to supplement Levi. I can't think of a better landing spot for Hellebuyck than you guys,</div></div>
Kind of a lot to unpack here
As far as Timmons goes, we already have 9 “nhl” defensemen
Is he an upgrade on some of them? Sure
But it’s hard to see us spending assets on another defenseman when we already have a surplus
*unless that defenseman was a legit top4 guy, but that’s not the case here
As for Hellebuyck:
On the surface, it does seem like a great fit
But the BIG problem is that his contract is up after this season & he’ll be 31 when his next deal starts
IF he were willing to sign for 3 or 4 years, then sign me up
But it seems like he wants a 7year deal at over $8mil per,
and as good as he is- that’s just a bad idea
