Storm Surging
Aho's not signing for that little.
Everyone signs Panarin in their AGMs, gotta start to realize teams like Florida and NYR are going to offer him the same money if not more, and he apparently has interest in going there.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Glad you mentioned Nylander stats, I'll discard last season. So he's a 20/40/60 player. That included lots of PP minutes. Hyman 20/20/40 player with no PP time and also a PK player. The reality is there isn't that much difference in their offensive totals if given equal opportunities. Plus the the good factors that Hyman brings to the game. So you might be able to convince me Nylander is a marginally better player but for 2.4m and 6.96 cap hits, obviously Nylander is less value. Hope for cap reasons, Nylander is the one to go this summer.</div></div>
Nylander was 20/40/60 for his first 2 seasons, ages 20 and 21. Hyman was 10/20/30 and 15/25/40, ages 24 and 25. Hyman might be a 20/20/40 player, and paying him 2.4 is a good deal, but he's no Nylander. Willy just turned 23 and while he did have a horrible season, his ADVANCED stats are much better than Hyman's. Points aren't everything. Just this past season, regular season and playoffs, only 5v5 so taking out PP and PK as you mentioned, Nylander's Corsi%, RelativeCorsi% and GoalsFor% are much better than Hyman, and his ExpectedGoalsFor% was slightly better. I'll give it to you, Hyman's PointsPer60 were slightly better, but as I mentioned Nylander had a horrible season points wise. Nylander clearly drives play better than Hyman. Nylander's shooting percentage was half of his career average, whereas Hyman's shooting percentage was almost double his career average. Hyman played with Marner and Tavares the entire season, Nylander played some with Matthews but spent the majority of the Season with Kadri and Marleau/Brown. If Nylander plays with Matthews for the full season next year he'll be a minimum 75 point player, while only 23 years old. Hyman turns 27 next month and had a career year, he's not going to get better than his 20/20/40. So now tell me who's more valueable

He doesn't have to cost the Leafs the series to be bad. I also think Babcock's deployment is a huge reason why the Leafs lost the series. Babcock also plays Marleau, Brown and Gauthier way too much, are you going to tell me they deserve to stay just because Babcock plays them a lot?

but then they still have to sign all 3 of the RFAs you traded them. they don't need depth forwards they need a top 4 RHD

Nylander has outscored Hyman every single season except for this past one. Nylander's advanced stats are miles better. He had one bad season and he's a worse player?

Leafs don't want picks though. Only way they move Kadri and Kapanen is for Larsson +

He’s a top 6 C. A top 6 C gets you a 2nd pairing D.
It’s not too hard to get. Kadri has 3 years and Larson has 2. Both similar cap hits.</div></div>
Kadri is not better than McDavid, Draisaitl or Nuge. On Edmonton he's a 3rd line center. Gotta look at both sides bud

The Super Ridiculous Core Meltdown
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Don't get me wrong; EK is the best offensive D guy in the league but I struggle with him being B+ defensively for that kind of money. He's not bad defensively by any means but he's not a standout. Been watching the Sharks closely this season and would rather have Burns on my team any day of the week so giving EK $10M+ I think is just insane especially on a 7 year deal making him a top paid defensiveman who's not a top defensive player.
Gustaffson on the Hawks is a mini version of EK being an A offensively but worse at C defensively. Paired correctly with a solid traditional D guy, these types of offensive D guys are great and that's why it works in SJ right now with Burns and EK. This trend of offensive D guys becoming more important in the NHL then a stay at home defender I don't totally grasp yet.</div></div>
He was never the greatest defensively but he's not terrible. My biggest concern is that ankle. He's never been able to pivot the same since the surgery where doctors literally removed half of his ankle bone. He's gotten walked pretty bad a bunch of times because he just physically can't pivot as well anymore. He's also been injury prone this season, I'm not sure if his body can handle 7 more years

Big EDM trade if EDM is not on Kadris 10 team no trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Grammer77</b></div><div>That doesn’t make sense for Toronto. Kapanen is controllable as an RFA for multiple years. Age is huge especially in a cap world. There is no way Kap goes the other way with Larson coming back.
Kadri makes sense due to being similar in age and UFA years.</div></div>
It makes no sense for Edmonton to take on Kadri (who can also deny the trade as he has a modified NTC). They're not trading a top 4 RHD for a 3rd line center. Kapanen can keep up with McDavid. The Oilers' biggest issue is speed and wingers. Kapanen fits that bill perfectly. As for Toronto, without Kadri they'd have to put Nylander there as you did with Moore and Bracco. Kadri fits that line better, and Nylander fits the Matthews line better than Kapanen. Trading Kadri can be done but it makes more sense to trade a RW for a D because they have plenty of wingers and Edmonton has none. Kapanen also has more value for the exact reasons you mentioned so you would get more back. Also keep in mind Babcock directly referenced Korshkov and Mikheyev in the press conference after the season, 2 more wingers looking to make the roster.

oh yeah, 100%. never said he SHOULD get that much, but we all know he will. the offense will always be there, but if he gets a 7 year deal, I'm not sure he finishes it

i really like Matt Benning, i even did an AGM like this where I traded for Larsson and Benning but it straight up does not make sense for Edmonton. if they're giving up anyone it would only be Larsson for Kapanen, it saves more cap space for both teams (who both drastically need it) and then the Leafs D would look more like this:
Rielly - Larsson
Muzzin - Dermott
Rosen - Liljegren/Holl/other RHD if Liljegren isn't NHL ready

anyways, have fun at the draft man, sounds like a blast, i've always wanted to go
