Doesnt necessarily fix goalie but a decent option also shredding some cap
This won't work. Tage just developed into a 1st line C with term. Hes under valued (in terms of cap) and a huge win for the org when it comes to not having to find a new eichel. I could tell you right now the sabres will not trade cozens or tage because we have no C depth beyond them.
Now mitts maybe but he still young and was injured half the year so really couldn't value him. Sabres don't want to mess up the locker room chemistry just yet because a lot of young players are starting to find their game. The sabres are looking to unload vet players because their younger players are starting to flourish in the granato system.

If, big if, Anaheim wants to trade for Eichel they have to include an A list prospect. Right now there are two choices, Drysdale or Zegras. The Sabres are going to loose every trade imaginable trading eichel no matter what, but for an elite C, you have to give up an A Prospect. To even start the conversation. I'm asking for an A prospect, B prospect, C prospect and two firsts. I'm taking back a bad player contract with 3 years term as well to help offset costs. Zegras is really good but no one knows how he will be in the future. Eichel is top 5 C in the league now, an MVP candidate the year before, and even hurt this year was playing as one of the best two way defensive C's in the league. I don't think that trade is an issue. Now the Calgary could be stretch and I'll give that might not work.
The Gretsky Haul...On Aug. 9, 1988, the Oilers, just two months removed from lifting the Stanley Cup, sent Gretzky, Marty McSorley and Mike Krushelnyski to the Kings in exchange for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, Los Angeles’ first-round draft picks in 1989, 1991 and 1993, as well as $15 million in cash. My mock isn't even close to that haul. Carson was 2nd overall 2 years prior. In Carsons first two years in the NHL, he was the most productive, more than almost any player in league history, recording 92 goals and 186 total points at only 19 years old. Gelinas was 18 and the 7th overall pick the year prior. Plus 3 firsts, and 15 million in cash...So I think you're slightly mistaken on that

If we actually had a capable GM
I hope you're joking. you realize girgensons was signed by the sabres. I didn't choose to sign him. his AAV is horrible...like terrible. I hope you paid attention to UFA signings. his was one, if not the highest of a 4th line player.
Second of all there were a lot of buyouts & released players this past year so a lot more options for UFAs that weren't available originally (Wennberg, Johnson)
we had a bunch of empty middle six spots...how do you fill them? I'd fill them with guys with great metrics including Jesper fast who is borderline 2 line caliber player on xG. who would help drive scoring on a 3rd line. Add a cheap 3rd line center who would help be a great 2 way center with good defensive metrics. TJ Brodie has always been very good & we need some top 4 defensemen & he is incredibly affordable. by the way he signed for that exact amount. Weegar is a top 4 defensemen who is getting paid like a 3rd pair. The trades are realistic trades. fleeced or not, your perspective of this team being bad is very off.
The only questionable move would be Toffoli but he showed last year in Vancouver that when he paired with the right players he can produce. Don't see how staal & skinner wouldn't help there. I built the forwards through free agency. Defense & goalie through trade. so technically this isn't a free agency team...its a build a team analytically & using metric. We really don't have a lot of trade bait players...idk what you think we'd get for montour or risto but I can say its not a first round or anyone like Ehlers without offering more.

EvolvingWild projected salary for the players you selected
Haula 4yr- 4.3 mil
Kahun- 2yr- 3mil
Reinhart 8yr- 8.7 mil
Olofsson 4yr- 5 mil
Your undervaluing RFAs & UFAs a lot. We'd be over cap. not a bad roster but still really don't like the defense.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan89</b></div><div>That pens trade is brutal. Want Jarry? We want the 8th pick in the draft. Otherwise Murray is available. Pens don’t need wing depth. Guentzel, Zucker, McCann, Poulin, Tanev, ZAR, Simon, Kapanen, Rust, Hornqvist, Lafferty. 11 is already overkill. We don’t need a 12th</div></div>
1. Murray would have been my assumption but who would have guessed your GM would trade a 1st & prospects for Kap.
2. It's obvious your team is looking for a win now senario. I went with Jarry because Murray got you cups & the whole "stick with what you know" idea.
3. you need more center depth considering sheary & Marleau are UFAs. You have Erod, Angello, Lafferty are RFA's all still needing development. Why wouldn't you add a utility C/LW who is good in PP & PK? You added Kap but lets be honest he a defensive 3rd liner. You add MoJo & you get a playmaking C or Winger for 3rd line & PK time.
4. If you keep everyone on that roster next year I'll be in shock. especially since you need a defensemen bad.

You are right but his performance as a LW in playoffs are much better then at C. He does have great shooting metrics but I would value him more of 3rd line center then a 2nd. I have hard time seeing Philly wanting to part with a young developing C/LW. He does score on a good amount of shots taken but offensively & defensively his metrics are all over. It's hard to grasp what you're getting for the future since his numbers last year & this year are different & his metrics have increased with a change in position.

I'm going to tell you sabres wouldn't do this. Although , our ex-GM & who knows new GM might have no idea (scratch that, have no idea) what they are doing. If the GM was smart they wouldn't do this trade. Laughton is at best a 3rd line LW. He is only 25 but the sabres need centers. We wouldn't use one of our only trade pieces for a 3rd line LW. We would most likely target Josh Anderson, Andrew Copp, Yanni Gourde, etc...

Sabres Fix
Okay. If you're biggest argument against me is that I don't watch games, then it isn't a good response to my trade. It says "YOU" personally value him more than his worth. I do watch a lot of hockey but I don't need to describe on average how much I watch to convince you I know hockey. You can choose to disagree & that is fine but this trade isn't meant to screw over Montreal to benefit the sabres. Its supposed to be fair trades that could happen.
I will agree that being a top line center does help in trade value but when the coach no longer values you as a top line center then your value lowers. He can compete, young, & has a respectable contract. You may think he's a good two way center but statistically that doesn't match what you're saying. Him not being on a power play does lower his value as well. You know it does. its not petty but it just means he doesn't have the experience on the power play. This past year was his worst defensive game of his career. Don't get mad if I point at he isn't what people believe he is. Analystic's are important, more now than ever, in evaluating trades. Does analytics miss things, yes. It is not perfect. But it shouldn't be ignored as well as it shouldn't be the only thing used.
If you think there is a better, more fair trade to offer the sabres could offer, I'm all ears. I'm not here to criticize or insult. I'm just hear to have a discussion & view peoples opinions.

I agree with Stan. I don't see realistically this working. The trades aren't equal. Strome would be worth a lot more to other teams & honestly he's not my favorite RFA to go after to fix 2nd C.

Sabres Fix
For those who will say "Danault played 1st & 2nd line all regular season." I know he played that but based on recent articles by the NHL, Montreal Gazette, & more it states the coach wants Danault to be a defensively minded 3rd line center.

What?? because of his point totals?? You say MTL has 2 future young centers as a justification for trading a center away, but then you give them 2 more centers....</div></div>

Every person is entitled to their opinion of my trades. If you are a Montreal Canadiens fan, I understand this look like it would be a bad trade but in reality it isn't. Below is an explanation of why Danault is below average (career wise). He is a great player. I'm not saying the guy is terrible & he can/is a 1 or 2 line center but what he isn't is a 2way center & isn't effective on the power play either. Again...this is statically, not how I feel or have watched. I'm going by numbers not personal view.
Danault
MoneyPuck.com
0.76 Expected Goals Per 60 Minutes Played
13 Goals From 16.87 Expected Goals During 1,337 Minutes Played
12.20 Expected Goals After Adjusting For Shooting Talent
Predicted Shooting Talent is 27.7% Below Average
According to Hockeyviz Isolated Summary he is actually -2%. He has been for the past 3 years -3%, -2%, -2%. His power play is -13% in his career. On top of that he is 5v5 +.04% xG/60 (2% above average) & 5V5 -.18 xG/60 (-7%) defensively. Which you'd think hows he is more of an offensively minded centermen but is he is not good on the power play (-13%) & his predicted shooting talent is not great which tells me he doesn't make a lot of shots he takes.
Danault for Montreal was playing 3rd line center. Which proves & says Montreals coach wants a defensively minded third line center for his team. Danault has 1 year left & would want a payday which Montreal doesn't want to offer considering they have their 1-2 centers for the future. Mittelstadt is still considered a top 6 prospect. Analysts have stated he might fit a winger role better than a center role & actually did well in the AHL when moved. If you read my post I state top 6 forward, not center. Asplund has played in the NHL & is a young center that can fit that 3rd-4th center line role depending on his development. He might not be immediate but he can fill a spot to rotate & is young. They also have Jake Evens to fill that 3rd line center role & Asplund could be your fourth. Thats a great young center core for the future. You're getting two young & very affordable potential top 6 & bottom 6 players where one can still be an elite player & the other can fill the bottom fit role.
It benefits both teams & fills needs. Plus with this Montreal actually gains something then if they play him one more year & lose him as an UFA.
