<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>Ah yes, Montreal went to the final. If it weren’t for Covid, and the divisions didn’t have to be realigned for a season, the Habs wouldn’t have even made the playoffs that year, let alone make the finals. Adding on to that, they were barely able to squeak into the playoffs in the weakest division that year. They also were quite over reliant on Price being unbeatable, much like how the Rangers fell with Lundkvist and Shesterkin, and the Panthers will fall with Bobrovsky.

As for your comments on the Tkachuk trade, would you have taken the package that ended up as the trade, or a package of Necas, 1st, and Morrow, and whatever else was in that package from the Canes? When the trade was made, the Flames took the package that had a winger who just put up 115 points. Is it now looking like a mistake, yes, but the Canes put the pieces out that could have gotten Tkachuk. Same thing with Meier, the pieces were there, but the GM chose the Devils package.

Really, more KK slander? Considering he is already a .5 PPG player while being elite defensively, signed long term on a contract that is already starting to look Really good, and is still improving. If you don’t want to admit that the Habs made a mistake, I don’t care. But you shouldn’t be slandering KK just because the Habs were stupid.</div></div>

Hey now! I would argue that the dysfunctional treatment of KK by Bergevin was the nail in Bergevin's coffin. If we had to lose KK to get rid of Bergevin, I would say that was money well spent, especially since we did not lose Caufield, Harris, Struble and Dach amongst others... (and let's be honest, we would have!)

It's all about perspective sir!

Edit: Honestly... I can't believe he got played on that Aho Offer Sheet. How the HECK did he think that would not get matched. He believed some rumour about your owner's liquidity or some nonsense and agent fed him as I recall. Total Amateur hour.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>danielcoe</b></div><div>not to mention that we are likely to pick 6 or maybe even 7 and both of those guys could be gone especially if the russian sinks as i expect he will.... That is one one guy i dont want that russian because i can imagine him resigning due to pressure over there... and i wonder if his father was murdered as his death is really suspicious.. so we get no info on him and his numbers in the khl have been ordinary...Now i get that he is a stud but the risk that he wont play here is just too great for our rebuild.... this pick has to put us over the hump of our rebuild so we cant afford to waste it.</div></div>

Its a tough one but the Mtl market needs to be factored in. Not everyone can handle the pressure. I think if Smith/Benson isnt available, you have to start thinking D. Especially on the right. I wouldnt be opposed to the RHD Axel Sandin Pellikk. He's tearing up the U18 worlds with the best prospects rn excluding a few like Fantilli.

I know Hughes isnt afraid to go off the board but its easy when you start at zero, continue to keep taking risks. You cant win by going for prospects with mid upside which is why I respect passing on Wright and drafting the project of Slaf. I would have went Nemec but at least he wasnt afraid to pick with his gut.

Axel Sandin Pellikk, Benson, even Dvorsky. I think Dvorsky is a guy that looks like a gamer that can do it all. They can't draft these outside the dots players that are all over the Leafs, for example. They need to have players that complement each other. And yes, es they can always grab an O'reilly in free agency but it took Leafs to get over the hump (still havent) because the team is flawed with redundant parts.
Farrell, Kidney, Caufield, we have enough of these uber skilled small forwards.

Benson though has that grit even at 5'10" or so which shouldnt be dismissed. Will Smith simply strikes me as that player that goes away in tight checking hockey, he dangles a bit too much in traffic for my liking. Ankle breaker? Sure, We've seen a ton of ankle breakers in the draft that have amounted to little of anything.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>danielcoe</b></div><div>Now the pld rumours can chill a bit as he wont have a long playoff cause morissey is just the player the jets couldnt afford to lose.....the jets window closed many years ago just like chic and pitt and wash.....it takes a while for teams to realize it.... the next one is Tampa i think their window has closed even though they might beat toronto</div></div>

Toronto again got help from the officials but that help wont be mentioned, ever again and they'll go back to their conspiracy theories with black and white photos that only show them winning a Cup with a few teams in the league.

We both said The Leafs were still in the fight after game 1.
Worried about Edmonton a bit as their fans actually have reason to be after the officials with so many blown calls and dives from the Kings while the Kings absolutely molest McDavid with no calls.
Oilers should win this series 8/10 times but the officials and the inexplicable diving like wtv Arvidsson was doing last game, these variables are really throwing a wrench into the series

PLD rumours will really pick up after the draft lottery is what I mean. Hughes/Gorton will have a clear path if knowing they are getting a Fantilli or Bedard. The guys will need to be weaponizing their cap space. They have overages in LTIR and all their kids are going to be need to be paid in 3 years especially if they get that Bedard/Fantilli. Luckily, most of their big deals end in 2026 but players like Gallagher/Edmundson need to be addressed. I think they need to be thinking about taking another bad contract back from a team that thinks they can contend. The Canucks already have a history of taking long bad money to save short term with OEL. Dumping Gallagher, picks for Boeser/Myers would be something they should look into.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>Didn't see the Gallagher one (looked at the 7-1 game and went on Evans was def. playing the 7-1 one (2 PIMs, 1 hit). The first 2 games (again) were the worst 2 games of their respective months and clearly not bc Toronto is better

Saying it doesn't matter how many chances you get isn't accurate at all... The more chances you get, the more you are going to score and outplaying your opponent will lead to success (see the last 2 games these teams met)

I meant *if* the Sabres beat the Leafs once, they would have been in a playoff spot</div></div>

I actually think Evans left that game after 1 shift if memory serves right.

It doesn't matter how many scoring chances you have in a game, the <strong>only</strong> thing that changes the outcome of the game is the puck actually going in the net. We have had games where we gave up 40+ shots but because of Monty we ended up winning those games. Again this isn't to say we weren't out played just that the number of scoring chances against did not change the outcome of the game cause the opposition did not score on them just like the Leafs in the first 2 games. Yes the Leafs outshot the Habs those first two games too (not as bad as the last 2) but they didn't manhandled the Habs either and the Habs actually won those 2 games because of their defense and goaltending, which was my original point, when healthy our D and Monty are solid enough to be a wildcard team. It was really injuries and Allen that derailed our season, since at the halfway point we were still close to a WC spot this year. If it were really just the more chances you have the more you are going to score then every team who out shoots another team would win every one of those games but that doesn't happen in a significant enough amount of games. The truth of the matter is that teams have ebbs and flows, players elevate their games vs certain opponents and injuries affect lineups. I guarantee you that if Montreal hadn't had all those injuries in the last 2 games, they would have been closer (we might have still lost but we might not also).

*if* the world ran on hopes and dreams everything would come up rainbows and unicorns! Meaning *if* doesn't matter, all that matters is the results. I could say *if* Montreal didn't have so many injuries in the 2nd half they could have made the playoffs. Fact of the matter is they did and we will never know if they would have or not. If the Sabres had beaten the Leafs once they may not have beaten another team twice and could have been further from the playoffs. We can play the if game all night but it won't change the facts. The Leafs lost twice to a full Habs lineup despite out shooting them and completely decimated a severely depleted Habs lineup (which was completely expected)
