Yeah I could absolutely see Detroit taking any of the guys you mentioned along with Perrault Simashev or But. There's a ton of guys that seem pretty hard to place between ~8 and 22.

I would be surprised if he did, but I don't think it's impossible. Agreed that it'd be pretty surprising if he made it past 15ish, but he is exactly the type of player that teams are usually lower on in the draft than the public prospect lists.

Sure I can believe it. I'm guessing Sale falls into the 20s as teams are pretty worried about his competitiveness. Seems like a good fit for a contending team like Colorado to take a swing on.

This is the dream haul imo for the Hawks first 7 picks. Solid chance Musty and especially Benson don't necessarily fall that far, but think Benson could due to size/speed combo. If they don't I'd be considering Moore, Musty, Sale, Perron, Heidt and Brindley for the picks at 19 and 35.

Next Steps - Bridging the Gap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabres89</b></div><div>So what I see here, is dahlin that was hobbled by a bad coach and weak partners. Samuelsson comes in and frees up dahlin, and it's a different team. I want the same thing for power. Honestly other teams have a very easy time in our zone, corners and the front of our net are safe comfortable places for the other teams forwards. I've been around long enough to know that there isn't any one kind of build that works, I would prefer to get bigger on d. I know that you can win with a guy like makar, but that's a bit disingenuous as he is one of the top probably 5 players in the league. I was looking at a cup preview a few days ago, several front office execs were polled, most of the ones who picked Vegas mentioned how monstrous and talented their d are. I want that. At least to round out dahlin, Samuelsson and power.</div></div>
Yeah I can buy that, and some of the direction for a guy they choose may ultimately depend on what they think Power is going to become. If Calgary ultimately decides to try to get younger and reload because they are concerned about being able to re-sign some of their players over the next 12 months, Hanifin could be an interesting target.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabres89</b></div><div>No interest in Girard, and I think thats overpaying for Vejmelka, although i like the idea. As far as the other d mentioned, borgen yes, the others all no. Defensive d are needed. We don't need a ppqb, we have two first overall picks for that, and a coach that runs a 4 forward pp. Our own end is a circus, and teams look quite comfortable in the corners and in front.</div></div>
Girard isn't for everyone, but idk that you really need 'defensive D'. Would argue Samuelsson and Lyubushkin are already plenty on that front, and it's more strong transition defenders and players that can drive play that are needed. Maybe not with the tilt Girard has, but maybe they re-work that Nashville deal and go after somebody like Fabbro instead.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MeetYourMakar</b></div><div>Girard's break out ability paired with Power is exactly what the Sabres could use. He may not clear bodies, but he shuts down in coming offense/ brakes up passes to make up for it. Value in this post isnt there for the Avs.</div></div>
Yeah I think with Samuelsson and [insert solid DZ-first 6th d-man here] they'll kind of always be able to put together a tough minutes-eating pair. I think Girard or someone of that ilk would be a really interesting partner for Girard. Just really high end transition and skating ability; they should be able to drive play quite well and stay afloat in their own end with Power out there growing into the league.
As far as Girard value, I wasn't totally sure what to do with the Avs cap situation as it is. With the Nichushkin uncertainty, maybe there ultimately won't be a huge need to move anybody, but figured moving Girard was preferable to Toews. To beef up the return, Buffalo could probably change the deal such that instead of the 2nd rounder it's a piece like Krebs or Mittelstadt.

Realistic Deals
Think the value on the Helle and Colton deals is way too low. Helle for instance is going to require 14 OA, Poulin and something else to even get the conversation started. Idk that they really even have the pieces to get it done honestly.

The Dubas Plan
I like the direction here but still think the bottom 6 is really lacking in offensive ability still. I did one of these last week and had them buying Carter out and going after someone like Ross Colton's RFA rights with their 2024 2nd. Buy Carter out, do that deal with Tampa (theoretically they'll take the asset that they can then use to flip for someone else who is cheaper either this summer or at the deadline), sign Colton to something like 4x3.5.

Yeah fair enough. Seems like those are the two I see linked to Chicago the most in a hypothetical 11+Garland/Boeser for 19+something else type of deal. Obviously that's a bit of a different structure though.

That Graves signing would be a very poor decision imo and I don't know if that's even 30% of the value it would take to get Saros. Garland is a downgrade on Rust too, even if I like the player.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JSEB93</b></div><div>I mean that's fair. I'm trying to temper my ratings of Boston players since that team was so ridiculous everyone is going to look good haha. I think it's pretty difficult to compare Petry and Grzelyck to be honest. It's two completely different players that wouldn't even be fighting for the same position.
I'm all for moving the first rounder if it's for a significant upgrade. Moving it for a "cap casualty" seems like a waste for me. Colton is a solid player for sure - it would depend on what they have to give up and what he costs to sign. I wouldn't consider him 14to overall pick worthy.
No - you're good. Always better to error on the side of an overpay on here. I just think when you look at his performance, age, injuries, etc - and then look at what other players got signed for last season - he's definitely in for a decrease. Not much though</div></div>
Yeah, it'd be interesting to see what might happen if rough approximations of those first two trades happened and then they tried to retain Petry and upgrade the D with the 14th.

It looks like you made changes - my comment was more on the original. So this obviously changes things a little. Depends who you're saying an upgrade over. POJ/Smith/Dumo - sure. Petry - I would say no. And you can still fit him under the cap because Hallander and Legare aren't going to be on the NHL roster</div></div>
Sure I can buy that if they want to save the draft pick capital. I'm just relatively high on Grzelyck and relatively low on Petry/waiting for the bottom to drop out. I think they should be aggressive in moving the 1st rounder though, curious to see if they end up doing so pre/during draft and what they use it for. I kind of think Colton is a perfect fit for this team to help round out its bottom 6 scoring and add an additional interchangeable piece further up the lineup/on the power play. If they can get Zucker back for 4.5-5 I think that'd be great, I'd just be surprised if they can get it under 5 and wanted to be conservative.

I kind of think that's around what Zucker gets, somewhat basing off of the contract projections that are out there. Was trying to clear the Petry cap and I think Grzelyck is actually an upgrade and can drive play on a pair. It's not perfect but it's roughly the direction I hope Dubas heads in, at least in terms of the signings.
