The leafs are in no position to take overpaid players. And it will cost more value than a couple of late 1sts, a 2nd, and a cap dump to get Dubois.

Yes, but the jets don’t need cap space next year. They can easily retain on wheeler and move on. No point in tying up cap next year when you might need it, vs now when you definitely don’t. All while saving real dollars, which does matter to a small market team like the jets.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised. He would have hit it this year if the entirety of the jets offence didn’t come crashing down. Scheifele was doing great offensively until he got benched and was never able to respond. He played a very good defensive game too for half the season

It doesn’t need to be that much subtracting though. Say, subtract vilardi, Iaffalo and a 1st. Move durzi elsewhere. And I think that could fit. Probably one more move like arvidsson or Roy and your good from a cap perspective. If the kings are truly interested in him, LA has some peices the jets would be interested in, but LA has to be willing to move those pieces.

I’d want one of byfield or vilardi from La. Need a young forward (preferably centre) coming back in a PLD deal. Fiala is a scoring winger. PLD is a two way centre, and is a powerforward to boot. He will certainly cost more than fiala (who got a bit of a haul in his own right).

As a jets fan, I agree with some of what you said. However, your overall conclusion makes sense.

Dubois simply told the jets that Dubois won’t sign long term. This is a good thing for the jets in my opinion. They weren’t going to keep him anyway and him and his agent being willing to help with trade discussions is beneficial to both sizes and announcing a trade request will help chevy’s phone ring.

Matthew Tkachuk did it last year. Debrincat this year. Trouba in the past. It’s happened before, just becoming more common. While some might think it’s a bad move, Dubois doesn’t seem like a guy who likes a small market and he knows what he wants. Columbus and Winnipeg aren’t great destinations for what he’s looking for (the high fashion and lifestyle big cities have). He’s been an RFA for 6 years now, and he’s excercisnf his rights to go to UFA next year. But he’s also being considerate in working with the jets for a sign and trade to happen. Best case for both parties.

I didn’t hear thr 9M but I don’t doubt it. I think he’s closer to 8.5 but he’ll get 9 if he wants it and is flexible with his destinations.

Yes, he had Connor on his wing for most of his time, but Dubois is no slouch of a player. He’s worth 8.5M per year and he won’t regress offensively and brings a lot to the game aside from points. If he’s engaged, he’s the most impactful guy on the ice, on a pretty star studded team in Winnipeg.

I don’t think MTL fans will sour on him. They haven’t soured on Anderson and Dubois is a better version of him…and he plays c.

I think if MTL gets the chance, they should make a bid for him. His type of players are rare in the nhl. Big powerforward instigators are a rarity, with tkachuk and Dubois being the best at it. And look at what tkachuck has done for the panthers (though more offensive skill there)
