Canucks will have to make some tough decisions.
I'd keep Hronek and Z.
Joshua and Lindholm probably hit the UFA market and price themselves out of Vancouver.

I think Demko's injury history makes it really unlikely that the Canucks trade Arturs unless it is for a package they can't ignore. I sometimes wonder if they are going to worry about Demko becoming Schneider 2.0 (e.g. injuries derailing a really bright career).

I can recall a few years ago CFACGM Leafs fans offering Robertson, Dermott and a 3rd for Hronek.
Now it's signing him for 3 years/6.5 mil AAV.
Robertson is still being offered.
But now Liljegren and Minten have replaced Dermott and a 3rd. 😆

How would you make a Mitch Marner Juuse Saros swap more fair
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wz92</b></div><div>Okay but then no player will. Your team isn't rebuilding and isn't winning. You need to do something. Any player above marners talent is a bonafide star and the teams 1a best player. You can afford to pay 1 guy Marner money. You can't afford 4</div></div>
Yea, I agree. But we have a pool of assets that make sense for us to move for him, I don't see moving elite goaltending options for the upcoming season as something we should be doing. Addition without major subtraction to the current roster is the best course of action with the futures Nashville possesses. My point was that the only way I'd want to move elite goaltending for a player is if a cup was guaranteed, which it can never be. 2 guys same age would be a different story. I have all the faith in the world for Askarov to perform but not willing to throw all the eggs in that basket yet when it isn't necessary to do so.
I hope Nashville does make a swing for Marner, but for assets we can afford to move at this time.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AK50</b></div><div>I'd steer clear of Marner for Saros. We need a #1 center and Marner isn't that. However, if Marner signs an extension under 10 mil, I'd consider if he comes with a 1st and Minten and NSH gives back Pars and Del Gaizo.
I'd keep both. It'd be a fantastic tandem.</div></div>
Problem with keeping both is their ages and contracts don’t mesh well like Rinne and saros’s did. You sign saros to 8 years and you’re blocking askarov till 30 to become a starter because you don’t want to pay for a 8 million dollar back up

Another take
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wz92</b></div><div>So let me get this straight.
For one of the best playmaking wingers in the NHL the Leafs get:
- A career journeyman off the best year he's had in 6 years.
- a former top 5 pick who had 10 points in his fourth season in the NHL
- a goalie with a history of mental issues (respectfully this arguably is the hardest market for a goalie to play in the league)
And
- a second round pick, that is so late it may as well be in the 3rd
Where is there ANY value here?
This is pure spare parts for an elite player</div></div>
And still the leafs will perform better in the playoffs

There is always one idiot GM in the NHL who will drive up the price for a big ticket UFA. Marner's not taking a paycut from Toronto after they just gave Matthews and Nylander raises.

O’Reilly almost made forsberg a 50 goal scorer. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t intrigued but it will depend on the package and contract

I believe goalies are undervalued in the trade market. Unfortunately the league doesn't agree with me. The biggest package for a goalie in the last 15 years was Darcy Kuemper which netted (lol) the 32nd overall pick, a D prospect who was a 2nd round pick and close to cracking the league, and a conditional 3rd. The biggest asset ever moved in this time period was the Cory Schneider trade that garnered the 9th overall pick. Looking at those, Kuemper was older and slightly worse stat- wise than Saros is now. Schneider was a year younger at the time of his trade than Saros is now and comparable stat-wise (and situation-wise, as Schneider took over in net for Brodeur just as Saros did for Rinne).
Put all this together: Marner for Saros is an overpay for the Leafs but desperation can play a factor. Both Schneider and Keumper were moved to keep competitive teams from falling off after another great goaltender fell off/ retired (Luongo and Holtby respectively) whereas the Leafs haven't sniffed a G that good in this run. That may convince the Leafs that all they're missing is a true #1 and they can compete.
In reality, the Leafs give up Marner and a mid round pick, they should net Saros, this year's 1st, Cody Glass, a B+ prospect, and potentially take 2-3 million of salary of Marner's cap and get the deal done. Both guys have extensions in place, and both fanbases think they were ripped off. Hilarity ensues, the Leafs make the ECF before being victims of a gentleman's sweep and the Preds miss the playoffs but bounce back the next season.

Teams showing interest because they are trying to get him for Pennies on the dollar since they all know the leafs have to trade him with Mathews and Nylanders extensions kicking in.

Retaining 2 mil on Jones and signing Marner for 12 mil essentially makes Marner a 14 mil cap hit. No thanks.

Jones was vilified in Chicago not long ago because he hasn't been playing up to his contract. He isn't even worth 7.5. this trade makes plenty of sense.
To say Chicago laughs and hangs up is such a weird response. you're a nobody. Who are you to act like you know what they're gonna do? You think your a bowman? Lol c'mon man
Relax on the aggressiveness, it's not like the trade was offensive. You get a top 10 player in the league and he goes to market thats smaller than Toronto. You also get a first round pick defenseman that by no means has been a bust.
And like buddy said- any trade Mitch does comes with an extension. They don't have to make it clear. Mitch has a no move. He's only going to approve a trade if he wants to sign. There long term...</div></div>
Most of the naysayers about Jones were not CHI fans or on the CHI beat, most of that talk came from the outside. There are only a small and loud group of CHI fans who would agree. The problem was never Jones, it was Stan Bowman, and he is gone.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RealKyleDubas</b></div><div>Might be misunderstanding how the buyout for JT works, but believe there is no incentive for Toronto to dump assets to offload him. A buyout would basically be a wash on the cap for the Leafs. So they would just do that. Then whoever wants him can sign him for less. Better for both teams.</div></div>
Toronto gains less than 1mil in cap savings… buying him it is the definition of pointless.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SNipeSHowInc</b></div><div>Leafs pass, he’s still a 65-70 point player. Is he worth 11 million? No. Is he useless and a player you NEED to trade away with assets? Also no</div></div>
The point in the Leafs wanting to move JT or Marner is to better utilize their cap. We’ve concluded this Leaf’s study. You’ve seen the ending.
The point of trading JT (Karlsson after 100points, a Norris, cementing his HOF status - only returned a first, and San Jose had to retain and eat Hoffmans dead weight contract + take on 5m x 2 years of Granlund (PIT considered that a dump too)…)
So JT at 11m will not give the leafs a postive value trade. It will be a dump situation plain and simple.
The goal is to let the Leafs sign:
UFA TOP4 D Man
UFA TOP Goalie
UFA Top Depth Player
+ more like keeping Domi and also Bertuzzi
+ still having money to spend.
+ You keep Marner
The goal is addition by subtraction
