Carlson, not Karlsson
So, what's the love for Murphy? Oh yea, he shoots right so he must be good. Rather have Hainsey for a year than Murphy at 3.8m for four years.

Making space for Matthews
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wotisthebest</b></div><div>Wouldn't trade Marner for Ekblad considering Ekblads contract, concussion history at such a young age and his less than stellar play the last few years.
Parayko has yet to play on the top pairing and plays behind one of the better defenders in the league in Pietrangelo as well as a strong defensive team in general. Would want to see if Parayko could deal with the hardest matchups before I would trade someone like Marner for him.</div></div>
I would honestly do Nylander + before I did Marner straight up.

Making space for Matthews
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wotisthebest</b></div><div>Leafs have a number 1D who has been better than OEL this year and probably last year, Morgan Rielly.... by pretty much every metric Rielly has been far better than OEL this year. Rielly is also only like 23 so will only get better.
This myth about the need for a number 1D and therefore Toronto has to trade one of Marner or Nylander is bullshit.</div></div>
Yup...statistically...the Leaf's D is slightly above average. Of course...the right side has lots of room for improvement...but Marner/Nylander is not the way to go about doing it unless you're getting an equally young-elite level D-man coming back. It's always a risky proposition going that route, but I'm thinking more of a Jones/Johannsen trade...just tough to find another team who's matches up with that strategy.

Leafs 2019
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wotisthebest</b></div><div>I think the Leafs are going to try to sign Willy to an 8 year deal so they can move him over to center and not worry about having to up his wages a ton after a bridge deal whereby he has moved to center full time. I would be more than fine with a 6.75 x 8 for Willy.</div></div>
I agree. Leading up to July 1, they'll know what they'd need to offer to get Nylander, Marner, Matthews Bozak and JVR re-upped. And if they don't already know thru back channels, they'll have the negotiation window to gauge if Tavares, Carlson, etc. are willing to come to Toronto and for how much. If they have a shot at one of those two big free agents, JT in particular, I think they'll lean to get the ELC guys onto bridge deals. If they have no shot at a big free agent (or trade target), then they probably try and max out 8yr contracts for those guys.

Leafs 2019
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BigBeardBurns</b></div><div>How the f*** did u get Ellis? He wouldnt just leave Nashville.</div></div>
I think he's made this for the 19/20 season when Ellis is a UFA. I could definitely see Nashville walking away if his price tag is $6m as they have PK at $9m and Josi would be due for UFA the following off season.<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Larkinisking</b></div><div>$17 million for John Tavares and Ryan Ellis combined, I would imagine that both Nylander and Marner get close to Pastrnak money and $12 million per for Matthews welcome to caphell Toronto for the foreseeable future.</div></div>
I could definitely see Pastrnak money being fair value on a 6+ year term. Matthews at $12m is also fair value but wouldn't be surprised to see him knock $0.5m-$1.5m off. I can see Lou pushing for bridge deals on Marner and Nylander. That would give them the flexibility to go after a big name free agent this off season or next. If they both go for $6+ right away I don't think there's any wiggle room with the cap to add a major piece, let alone 2 like the author has in JT and Ellis

I don't think 11 million is really much of a discount and what amazing city are you from to be calling Toronto a garbage city?
The biggest problem is Toronto even attempting to sign Tavares. It just doesn't make sense, just like signing Stamkos didn't make sense.

big overpayment for karlsson especially in 2018/19 two starting defencemen for one karlsson. can't the leafs sit and wait to see who is available in 2019 when there are lots of ufa defencemen.

Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wotisthebest</b></div><div>Babcock is one of those coaches who really doesn't like playing defenders on their off side.
I'm just happy with the team the Leafs have already and would rather not trade our cost controlled talented youngers for a defender about to hit UFA who will get a massive contract taking him into his later 30s. I would rather extend the Leafs window that go all in for the next 2 years then have to dismantle the team.</div></div>
Don't disagree with you. If you think you guys could manage the cap to keep the entire core, then more power to ya.

Agreed. Don't think he's a good fit for you guys, who are stocked at wings. If you want to talk about McDonagh that's a conversation though.

weber for nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyDuck</b></div><div>I didn't know about the retain of Salary for whole contract, so 2 million of Weber for the term.
Obviously Gardiner is better then Alzner...it is Gardiner for (Alzner + cap room) or else you can't make the trade. All the other players have NTC and no one is agreeing to move to Montreal! :)
Make it David Schlemlko if you want, but somehow Toronto needs a # 2 or 3 LD to TRY to replace Jake G.
I wouldn't make this trade but I think Babcock might. Obviously Weber's biggest fan, and whether it is Weber or another D you have to ship some soon to be expensive forward talent for D at some point.</div></div>
I don't think you know much about the Leafs. Leafs certainly don't need a # 2 or # 3 LHD to replace Gardiner. Borgman, Dermot or Hainsey can do it, a lot better than the declining Alzner. I this nonsense that the Leafs have to ship out an expensive forward, arguable their 2nd best forward just obtain Weber is nonsensical. Leafs have Zaitsev, right now Hainsey, Carrick and Liljgren in a year or two. Can't Weber to traded any team but the Leafs.
And Babcock's statement. What else is going to say when asked, Bash Weber? Wouldn't Babcock love to have Crosby, and McDavid playing for his team too.
I try to objective, but these Weber trades being hoisted on the Leafs......just looks like begging by so many Canadian or anti Leaf fans so the Leafs get the which might be worse contract in the NHL.

Yep, it's Leaf haters, think no Leafs have any value.

What would fair trade for Max Domi look like?
If Max didn't have a famous father, he would just be another first rounder who is having trouble finding his footing in the NHL. Leafs certainly don't need a young forward.

Nylander @ Centre 2018-2019 with good lines
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lyc4n</b></div><div>I think jvr will want 6.25 nylander will want 8.5 and the cap will be min 78m and as high as 82 so the leafs can pay them that</div></div>
Players can ask for whatever they want, but the market ultimately dictates their worth. I like <a href="/users/Wotisthebest" target="_blank">@Wotisthebest</a> prediction that Pastrnak may well be the comparison, but with the down year he is having in comparison, I could see a max term deal (8 years) at between $5.5 and $6.5 million AAV. Considering the down year though, it could be worth while to agree on some sort of 2-4 year bridge deal.

Realistic Changes Maybe?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wotisthebest</b></div><div>The lines don't really make sense.
Kadri is the shutdown center, Mitch shouldn't be on his line.
There is no way Leivo starts the year on Matthew's line, guaranteed to be Hyman.
Bozak's line is usually the slightly sheltered scoring line, why are 2 defensively sound players on it?
The Leafs forward lines were fine last year, can't see many changes to it other than Kapp moving up/down.
Edit: Like them a lot better after you swapped them ?</div></div>
Hey!
Yeah i see what you mean a little bit. I swapped Brown and Mitchy and put Kapenen on his off side. For Leivo, I had to put someone there. I'm hoping management saw how ineffective offensively Hyman was last season. He's an awesome player but better suited for bottom six, not playing with Matthews. Hell, even Gardiner had more primary assists on Matthews goals than Hyman.
I guess its just wishful thinking as I'm sure you're right and Babs will put Hyman right next to 34 again.
Thanks for the input buddy!
