100% agree with you on this. What does this really do for the Hawks long term? Furthermore, overpaying for a stop gap plug makes sense, IF there is value to that player at the TDL in year 2 of the contract. I don't see how a playoff team in 25/26, is going to be able to afford Stamkos at this rate even at 50% retained and at the age of 36 years old.

Yeah, this all seems feasible. This roster should meet the "being better" goal KD has. Feel like the Hawks are going to give Nazar a shot at being a C. So if they acquire JGP, could definitely see Nazar spending the season in Rockford playing C.

I'd probably lineup the forwards differently, but this is pretty good. Definitely a 30+ win, 70 point team if they avoid the injury bug.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wadejos123</b></div><div>I think we switch gears summer of 2025. Team should naturally improve a little bit going into next year, but hawks need to secure one more high lotto pick. If we snag one of Celebrini, Demidov, or Lindstrom this June and then another top 5-7 pick next year I'll be very good about this core personally</div></div>
As Tom Petty sang “the waiting is the hardest part”. Ultimately it all depends on how the players we’ve drafted develop. They all play like Vlasic , it will be sooner, they go like Reichel, it may be put off longer.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>seanrushton</b></div><div>That's a fair point</div></div>
For sure. You also can't watch or know every player inside and out. I think it is ok to use a quick look at stats, but it should go along side the players history, whether that is controversy or injury, etc., what your own team needs, what the other team needs, what fans think, and what pundits think, in order to make determinations and valuations.
For one example of many, there have been a lot of recent proposals from DET fans on here, we know they need cap space and we know a guy like Fabbri is constantly injured and hasn't been producing. We also know that CHI has no other reason to be interested in taking Fabbri's contract aside from being compensated to do so. I don't have to watch Fabbri on a regular basis to know he is a cap dump. I know I have watched Fabbri through the years and that is not particularly impressive relative to the rest of the league and that he is not someone I would target for any reason. And this goes for a lot of players and teams around the league. I'm not going to watch a players entire career over again every time someone proposes some garbage trade. haha. But yeah, scouting prospects is a whole different beast, and, personally, I find it way more fun and exciting.
As for pending free agents like Necas, I use what I know about CHI and Kyle Davidson's intentions. What I know is, they aren't targeting anyone like him or packaging high value assets to acquire them. They are building from within. Also, I know that Necas is not good defensively. All this would do for CHI is cost them valuable assets and create an unnecessary roadblock. I would rather take the assets that come with a cap dump and bank on them having a resurgence and bringing in even more assets at the trade deadline than go overpay for a young player, at this juncture in the rebuild. Maybe in another couple years, though, we can start talking about that kind of move.
But, if KD went out and did something like this, I can't say I wouldn't understand. I just feel like it runs contrary to the plan he has laid out and stuck to thus far.

Kyle Davidson has showed this far no willingness to switch gears from using picks to build through the draft. He of course will at some point , when he feels confident that he has his nucleus in place. Nothing against Tkachuk, but the Hawks are a lot further away from competing than what he can bring, so the timing is not right to pull the trigger on this type of trade right now.

I don't dislike him at all. I guess I'd be hoping for something more efficient. Either a better RWer as a UFA or maybe Bowman's prospects like Colton Dach and Nolan Allan plus a 2nd. I just don't think KD is trading away 1sts at this point in time. He's still trying to get his picks/prospect developed/developing. In a summer or two...maybe I could see it then, but it just feels too early for this. Kyle's only had this job for 2 years 1 month and 15 days and Luke not even 2 years yet. I wouldn't rush the rebuild.</div></div>
I'd rather see Laine with 2 years left on the deal, and wouldn't cost as much in trade assets, and gives the Hawks the option of trading him at the deadline in 25/26 or resining him. Laine would light it up with Bedard.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Was saying that from the perspective of being an RFA, a hometown boy, and the Hawks getting extremely lucky on a bridge deal as a basement number. But market value is a different thing, $3M would be 100% underpaid on a bridge and even more underpaid as a factor into a long term deal thus taking the ability away for Vlasic to really cash in at the age of 24 or 25.</div></div>
How about this.
Contract structure:
Year 1: $5M
Year 2: $5M
Year 3: $5M
Year 4: $5.5M
Year 5: $6.5M
Year 6: $7M
Year 7: $8M
Year 8: $8M
This would put him at a $6.25M cap hit/aav for 8 years, more manageable cap hit, paying him fair market, and locks him up long term. Something like this could work.

Sure. I could argue that too. But it just isn't how negotiations work. But players generally want to help their team too. AAV is just an average. If they can structure the payment schedule in a way that works for all sides while also driving down the AAV, then it's a win win scenario.
Also, Before anyone else was saying it, I WAS THE ONE who first proposed a $6.5M x 8 year deal for him, and everyone called me crazy for it earlier in the season. Might've even been over the summer when I proposed that.

This seems pretty spot on directionally to me. Not sure Roslovic or Johnson are the right UFA targets, but those are the two target positions in free agency for sure. Don't like the Ottawa trade. Hawks have no need for Forsberg. Just re-sign Stauber for another season in Rockford. If Sody stinks again, swap them. But overall this seems like a pretty accurate look at next year's team.

We should stay away from Roslovic, not the right guy for 2C even short term or the Hawks system.
Highly doubt Vlasic would sign an 8 year deal at $5.2M. Remember, as a 22 year rookie against the toughest assignments, he's ranked top 3 defensive players in the defensive zone. If Vlasic were never to improve from this season, unlikely given his age and the improvement from a year ago, he'd be worth $6M minimum to $8M on a 8 year deal. He and his agent are not only wouldn't take a penny less, they will bet on him improving and thus almost certainly don't want a 8 year deal unless it's around $8M which the Hawks probably wouldn't do. For that reason, he's likely a 3 year bridge and going to land anywhere from $3M to $5M on a 3 year bridge deal is my guess. If I'm Chicago though, I'd push to lock him up between $6M and $7M on a 8 year deal as that will look like a bargain in a few years with Vlasic almost certainly improving and the cap continuing to rise. We could be looking at the best shutdown defender in the league in a couple years, and I'd argue if he had played 6 less games last season in the NHL and could qualify for the Calder, he'd be in the conversation right behind Bedard and Faber with a pretty good argument.
I think the Hawks bring in a cheap RHD vet for 1 or 2 years until Rinzel (or Levshunov if the Hawks draft him) are ready for the show. Keep rotating Del Mastro, Kaiser, Crevier and Philips all getting chances to play 20 games on the left side 3rd line. The good news is all 4 have shown they can play in the league to varying degrees with Del Mastro probably ahead of the class of 4. Certainly at least 1 or 2 will get moved in the next couple years. The question mark to me is Allan. Can Allan play on his off-side in the NHL and be good enough in a 3rd line role? He's played a fair amount on his off-side, so could be interesting or perhaps the Hawks don't think highly enough of him. My rankings of those 5 are as follows; Del Mastro, Kaiser, Crevier, Alan, Phillips in that order. It's a logjam for sure.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlickWilly</b></div><div>If the kids arent getting extensions to make the Jones contract at least a little bit of a problem in the next 7 years, then the rebuild was unsuccessful. All these first round picks, you'd hope the average on their first extensions after the ELC is around 5 million (Bedard and Demidov become stars and make upwards of 8-9 mil, Nazar/Korchinski/Moore/Rinzel all a bit lower). Throw in a upper tier free agent signing, in this scenario its Rantanen, if these guys arent forcing an issue to at least make some tough decisions, then we have an issue.</div></div>
Like <a href="/users/Wadejos123" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Wadejos123</a> said, your timing is off. The only point at which the Jones contract has any chance of becoming even a little bit of an issue is in the last 2 or 3 years of his deal. Even then, it should be more than manageable. But chances are, when most of these kids sign they will need a year or two in the AHL, which leaves the team a much smaller sample size from which to base their second contract on. Which means they get bridge/prove-it deals. Some of them will even slide a year or two, extending their ELC's to 5 years.
Also, Jones has been good. Stop feeding the bull$hit machine about him being bad. He is fine, he is here, we need to get over it and move on. His contract has become part of the plan already. KD and his team have had, and will have, plenty of time to plan accordingly.

The cap is rising around $5M, not 6-7. But that doesn't matter. That money will be eaten up so quickly. These large raises will be short lived. Players will be looking for a bigger piece of the pie. Tons of players around the league are due new contracts. It really isn't as much money as you would think, in terms of cap implications. It may have an effect on the price of moving cap, but the difference will be marginal.
