This is definitely a trade
I say devils win
EP>=Hughes
Demko>>>>>>>
I give the edge to Jersey they get the better 2 players and 1st
L. Hughes is going to be a good top 4 d-man but I still think Devils win

Yup. Huge risk. Pens seek more, doubt it will ever happen. Rental values are pretty known.

Roy OR Beck(our top 2 A ranked forwards)
1st in 2025 CGY
2nd in 2024 COL
But we'd take back Garlands capdump if you'd take Ylonen and an additional 2nd over Roy or Beck as on our builds timeline they're kinda pieces that fit
That said if Pettersson coming in i suppose the depth charts landscape will change so it wont really matter in hindsight
Now if thats Enough MTL has options
We can either re-sign him, Hope someones dumb enough offer sheet him lol or Trade his rights in the summer if we cant work it out.
I think he fits and we sign him breaking with our no one makes more then the Captain Mantra that he, Caufield and Dach were all talking about this summer.
But i think if you can get Elias to sign for lets say 9.5m with full NMC the first 3 years of how ever long the term is and it would make sense for all involved.
I think Ideally he signs a 4-5 year deal and this contract will never be hard to move.
But im sure there will still be MTL fans saying so after i post this.
I think to get our first 100pts player in like 40 years? that we'd be more then happy to Welcome Elias to MTL</div></div>
Firstly, that’s not close to enough
Second, Garland is not a cap dump

Columbus offers lottery protected 2024 first, Kent Johnson, and Corson Ceulemans as a base. Wouldn't even demand top-10 protection. There would be other moving parts, of course, which would be negotiable. But I think Allvin would find 4OA and KJ very hard to turn down.
Of course, Jackets shouldn't do this, nor should Vancouver move him. But it's fun to talk about.

For arguments sake:
Trocheck
Othmann, may even have to be Perrault
1st
2nd</div></div>
It likely get's blocked by Trochecks NMC.
The problem with NYR is that: 1) both Zib + Trocheck have NMCs, and 2) Chytil's health. If one of them were to waive a NMC, it'd be a different story.
It would essentially go like this for NYR:
Choose 1 of: Zib (if waived), Trocheck (if waived), Chytil (if chytil is picked, Goodrow must be included, upgrade the 2024 2nd to a 1st rounder below and upgrade from choice of 3 to choice of 4)
Choose 1 of: Miller, Lindgren
Choose 2 of: Kakko, Sykora, Berard
Choose 3 of: 2025 1st, 2024 2nd, Dylan Garand, Robertson, Jones (2024 1st may be omitted because apparently Dolan wants to draft at the Sphere)
Schneider could potentially be in the Miller/Lindgren group -- but it likely depends on which center they take AND if they take Kakko.
Perreault is a non-starter for NYR. In a smaller swap sure, but in terms of a package it would be too much for NYR to pay.
Othmann may be the player that pushes the deal through, but he's been off limits (so far) in trades and I'm not sure that changes. It'll again likely depend on the size of the package vancouver wants.
IF the package Vancouver wants seems like too much for NYR, they likely wait and see what happens with arbitration. If it's player elected, Petey could potentially become a UFA if Vancouver does not want to meet the award (unlikely). If it's a 1 year deal, NYR may rather overpay when he becomes a UFA next year than to give up a truck of assets to obtain.
The most realistic package Vancouver should really expect teams to give up is similar to what Florida gave up for Tkachuck (top line replacement player, top 4 defenseman, meh prospect, 1st). I will admit this package was a little light but it was also due to Tkachuk only willing to sign with a few teams. Maybe throw in an extra 2nd (or conditional 1st) / prospect (Jones, Berard, Sykora quality), or even Kakko for good measure.

Chytil's LTIR provides cover for further deadline maneuvers, while a more experienced Goodrow gives playoff punch to your high-skilled team. Though DiPietro looks like a future #1, widening the pool of inhouse goaltending with Lindbolm makes for great competition at the AHL level. Sykora is untested, but when risen to second line duties in the AHL, was on a hot point streak on two occasions.
Petey has wanted the Broadway stage and this feels like the iron-hot moment all sides can meet in the middle.</div></div>
That is no way near enough. Sorry.

From NYR perspective we would somehow find away to move either Zibanejad or Trocheck back to VAN which will be blocked by NMC. I don't see established wingers be moved since this is already the main issue in NYR. So all NYR can offer is not going to be enough from VAN perspective. And NYR not going to have the money to resign Petty either. So a waste of everyone's time to even entertain that thought.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Jack Hughes has been better defensively than Pettersson this year. (Pettersson’s defensive play this year and in general is incredibly overrated, and Jacks is incredibly underrated).
But Pettersson got a narrative around him (people associate killing penalties and winning faceoffs with being good defensively bc defensive play is very difficult to isolate)
And because Jack is small and doesn’t win faceoffs and doesn’t throw #hits, people assume he isn’t good defensively.</div></div>
What? Pettersson has a borderline selke level two way game while producing 100 points, Hughes is average defensively and puts up the same offensive numbers. At worst they’d be a wash in trade value because of Hughes’ contract but there’s a good argument that it would take Hughes + to acquire Petey.

Nah, they just see it as adding depth with low risk & low cost. He's clearly a very smart player and knows Tocchet well, I suspect he'll be in and out of the press box but come playoffs he might be huge.

Hypothetical
This isn't the kind of return that would get you Pettersson. It's going to be more Tkachuk. It's probably starting Suzuki and then it's plus plus plus. Which you will say Suzuki isn't happening or renders this pointless, which is fair and true, but it's why Montreal isn't a likely trade partner if Canucks had to trade. You don't have enough or the right pieces.
So let's say example is Suzuki, Dach, wpg first, reinbach
Frankly there's no modern comps for a trade like his ever happening.

Canucks won’t move Petey. If he did want out (which he won’t) then trading him for futures doesn’t make sense. The Canucks team is built to win now, they’d want a Tkachuk-style deal built around bringing in a replacement top 6 forward. From Montreal, the ask would probably start with either Suzuki or Caufield, if they aren’t willing to move them Vancouver has 30 other options, with a lineup out the door of GM’s willing to give up the house for him.

If Pettersson wanted out it would start with Jiricek and your 2024 first. If you don't want to pay that then that's tough and VAN would call 30 other teams that would offer more then this.

So the Canucks give up a useful middle 6 forward and a great #5 defenceman for a bunch of fringe depth players? Why exactly would they do this, they're giving up the two most valuable players in the deal by far.
