Watching the Devils yesterday there was a whole lotta floating going on. You don't get that with EP and he puts up points.

That's fair. Not a perfect comparison but being a Red Wing fan. I always rather had Datsyuk than Crosby, not saying either one is comparable to EP/Hughes respectively. I just liked the guy that played at both ends of the ice.

Jack Hughes has been better defensively than Pettersson this year. (Pettersson’s defensive play this year and in general is incredibly overrated, and Jacks is incredibly underrated).

But Pettersson got a narrative around him (people associate killing penalties and winning faceoffs with being good defensively bc defensive play is very difficult to isolate)

And because Jack is small and doesn’t win faceoffs and doesn’t throw #hits, people assume he isn’t good defensively.

What? Pettersson has a borderline selke level two way game while producing 100 points, Hughes is average defensively and puts up the same offensive numbers. At worst they’d be a wash in trade value because of Hughes’ contract but there’s a good argument that it would take Hughes + to acquire Petey.

At best case you could argue right now pettersson is worth 1 mill AAV more today (it's virtually equal with a slight edge to jack). And then you realize jack is 22 and still developing. And then you realize Jack will cost 4-5 mill AAV less.

Reminder that pettersson didn't crack a PPG until age 24. Jack is currently 22
