<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logan_Ollivier</b></div><div>Yeah it would be way better to trade him for a 3rd liner and bottom 4 defenceman like your plan to move him for Walker and Moore or whatever it was. You really can't make fun of people for trading Nylander when you have done worse. At least in this case the two ELC's have potential to be really good players not just depth players. But as you like to tell everyone, you are the smartest person on this site.</div></div>
Dude, seriously grow up and stop commenting on every Nylander comment I make. Go marry the guy if you love him that much.
You’re officially on the ignore list for this childish behaviour.

Okay no.
If and when Nylander is moved, it’s for an NHL ready defenceman of similar age. They need to solidify the defence, not get younger and cheaper.

Ah yes! Let’s dump a point per game player on a good contract for futures, to sign a goalie over 30 who’s shown no signs of consistency or the ability to be a starter! Brilliant! 🙄

So both Tampa and Washington had 49.7% of their cap space tied up in 4 forwards and didn’t make it out of the first round in 5 consecutive playoffs (likely soon to be 6)?
Sorry but you’re delusional if think think you can keep the same core in place and win when they haven’t shown anything in the time they’ve been together.

No no no! PalHal thinks Toronto should trade Nylander for pure cap space and package him with Mrazek for literally nothing!

Jesus. I don’t get why I’m seeing so many Leafs fans post that Husso is an “upgrade” to the goaltending.. he’s not. He’s nothing more than what Campbell is. Both are unproven and likely career backup options. Husso’s just had a hot season, you know like what Campbell had before half way through this year? This doesn’t change anything for the team.

They added role players that helped win but in both cases the heavy lifters were the stars. Ovie carried the team on his back, he willed his way to the final. Kucherov and Point did the same. The stars win and the other guys are necessary but they don't win the cup. It's always the stars. TO has as good a chance as anyone</div></div>
Both those teams weren’t as cap strapped as the Leafs and had more room to add role players.. that’s the main reason why someone from the core has to be moved this off-season. You seem to be missing that point even though I’ve said it multiple times. I never said Nylander wasn’t good. I said the team needs to address other areas and in order to do that they need salary space.. only significant cap contract to move is Nylander.
At this point, agree to disagree. I’m tired of always going back and forth with you about Nylander because you’re in love with the guy. At this point, just stop commenting on everything I comment about him or just block me please.

Cause Tampa and Washington won on offence alone? .. they actually addressed their defensive issues before winning. Something that Toronto can’t do with all the cap they have tied up in forwards, hence having to move one of them. So which one of the big 4 should be moved? Matthews? Not a chance. Tavares? Won’t waive to be moved anywhere. Marner? You’d be dumb to and not many teams can take his high cap hit? Or Nylander? The defensive liability on a sweet contract that brings back valuable players. Seems pretty obvious to me.
But hey if you’re happy with consistent early playoff exits and no cups (and you’re seemingly marriage to Nylander) then be my guest and plead to keep him.
For the record, I love what Nylander brings offensively. He can be dominant. But he defensive deficiencies hurt the team far more than what his offence helps. It’s time to move on from him. Not every player plays their whole career with the same team, and this summer seems like Nylander’s end in Toronto

I’m one of those people that believes moving Nylander to address other pressing needs is the thing to do. This core hasn’t gotten in done in almost 6 seasons, how much longer can you keep the same roster and expect different? That’s the literal definition of insanity.

Ah yes. And that’s the same thing Leafs fans said about moving Ritchie and look at what is cost them.. likely a 2nd round pick - which means very little to a contending team like Toronto. Nice try though. It’s a fine deal, $4m in cap space is better than $1m cap hit for 4 years

Montreal Waging War With the Leafs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DirtyDangle</b></div><div>1. ok so now you're up to $8.3m, so take away the $4.1m for an offersheet and you have $4.2m in space to fill 3 new position and cover raises.
2. no one wants a $4m goalie he's injured all the time and when he is healthy can't break .900%sv.</div></div>
1. $8.3m + $9.8m(ish) that they already have in cap space and and you’re at $18.1m at minimum.. I don’t see the issue there at all.
2. Mrazek is tradeable. He’s a NHL quality goalie that has ups and downs but has experience, those aren’t always easy to find. Ask Chicago. Ask Buffalo. Ask Arizona. etc. so there’s a market for him - Dubas even said so himself. & just because you don’t like him doesn’t mean there isn’t value to him. He can be moved without an issue.
They’ll be fine.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DirtyDangle</b></div><div>kerfoot and holl, yes. mrazek no. the leafs would have to move substantial value to trade him. so there's only $5.5m space with 2 more spots to fill and raises to cover. $4m for either one forces them to make a tough move.</div></div>
1. Leafs can easily buyout Mrazek and it’s a little over $1m cap hit.
2. It will definitely not take “substantial value” to move him. There are multiple teams in need of goalies this summer and Mrazek is actually well liked around the league. His contract is a favourable buyout after each season so it’s a low risk deal. He’s also the type of goalie who makes the timely saves, just allows odd goals. He’s the type to have a bad season followed by a good one (that’s his trend) - it’ll likely take a 2nd tier prospect and mid round pick to move him if they choose to. But it definitely won’t be anything significant

Kerfoot, Holl, & Mrazek are all easy trade options. There’s an extra $9.3m in cap space if they’re all traded. How is that not enough? They’re fine.

But I think Mrazek can be traded. It won't be easy. But few people thought Ritchie could be moved and Dubas pulled that off. As others have said, a buyout is possible. I just think you're short changing Willy's value here.
He could definitely get more value in a trade.</div></div>
He’s been saying to move Nylander for pure cap space for so long.. wouldn’t exactly call that a smart user at all. And this is by far the worst deal I’ve ever seen. Imagine thinking having to use a point per game player on a good contract as a sweetener to move $3.8m in cap for 2 years.. ridiculous.

The Leafs have room to match both. There’s other guys that could easily be moved to make room. Mrazek is also an easy buyout candidate and that saves $2m in cap space. They’ll be fine

Blow up the Core
No offence, but that’s probably the worst offer for Chychrun that I’ve seen. There’s no significant value going to Arizona at all and they can get more elsewhere. They wouldn’t re-flip Wheeler and be stuck retaining on him for multiple years - they’re a poor hockey franchise who can barely afford a roster as it is and they can’t even afford a damn arena. The 2 young players are arguably at an all time low in terms of value, so all they’re getting is a maybe top 5 pick because of your blowup. Just nothing enticing at all

With Bunting, Robertson, and Knies already in the future plans what’s the need for Lafreniere? I don’t think Toronto does that for that reason - they’ll likely move Nylander for a top 4 right handed defenceman but there’s no need to do it for another LW

Even $3.5m is high for him. He’s not a proven starter and he has very limited experience and no playoff experience. That doesn’t get $5m a year. He’s had a hot start, but if you’re throwing at $5m that better be for a legit starter or that’s gonna backfire real quick

I think Ottawa’s gonna be the most overrated team next season and I’d be shocked to see them actually make playoffs. The group they have always seems to crumble when the games matter, then they start winning when they’re already out of the playoff picture. That doesn’t scream a playoff ready team. I’d give it another couple seasons before they’re in contention

I don’t see the point in the Toronto trade. I don’t think Colorado is interested nor do I think Holl fits their lineup. You don’t want him with Girard - now you’re relying on Girard to defend more and take away his offensive ability which is going to diminish his game. Colorado has MacDermid who’s a perfect fit for the bottom pair, why spend a pick on something you don’t need?
Mini side note: I’d start Girard in the top 4 and Byram on the bottom pair. Nothing about skill level, but with Byram coming back from his concussion issues you’ll wanna ease him into more minutes to not overwork him and mess up his long term health. Keep him with MacDermid for protection until he feels comfortable

No from absolutely poor defence and even worse goaltending.. Kallgren is nothing more than a AHL goalie and Husso is no more experienced or reliable than Campbell. On top of that, this bottom 6 would be eaten alive. Marchment is so overrated on this site that it’s not even funny anymore - he’s benefited from his linemates all season and Toronto traded him for a reason before (being his sub par skating ability that hasn’t improved) and they’re not gonna want him back. You’re 4th line is downright awful, you put a guy that’s an enforcer out with a rookie and a guy that’s had 1 bounce back decent year and is really mainly a defensive guy that doesn’t create offence. There’s nothing there to indicate that that line would do anything against teams except be hemmed in their own zone more often than not and with that goalie situation and defence it’s only gonna lead to more goals against.
Leafs have built their team around guys that push the puck up ice and create offence and every guy you’ve brought in doesn’t do that. This team would at best be fighting for a wild card spot unless Matthews, Marner, and Tavares all have MVP type seasons.
