<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Julius_Freezer</b></div><div>Thats more because he's exempt from waivers but it was also for his benefit. Since he's come back to the NHL he's been solid and has forced himself into the lineup</div></div>
So for KJ it's a negative to get AHL games, but for Podkolzin it's a positive. Ok.

Define "bouncing around between the NHL and AHL". He has had a single stay in the AHL of 10 games. Also, how is playing 130/149 games he has been eligible for as a 21 y/o possibly seen as not holding down a spot in the lineup? Also, one injury does not qualify as injury issues, it would be injury issue. Also, still waiting to hear how he is disgruntled. Last I saw of him he was chilling with Fantilli watching Home Alone movies or something and having a great time.

2024-2025 Season Start
Some quickfire thoughts:
1. Too much for KJ, too little for Marchenko, too much for Tex, and just right for Chinakhov and Sillinger; but, we're talking random guesses, I'd be stoked about the Sillinger and Chinakhov extensions and all of those extensions are plausible.
2. I can't see ownership being stoked about shelling out on another UFA defenseman given how Severson has looked, I think Provorov is the placeholder for Mateychuk, and we just need to sign a veteran depth LD that can play 2nd or 3rd pair until Mateychuk is ready.
3. Start all the new kids in Cleveland, and I'd throw Jiricek down there to round out his game some more, too. Let him play there until he's ready to step into at least the 2nd pair at the NHL level forever. I'd let KJ play down there too to start the year; call it a rehab stint and make sure he's good to go, no sense in playing him in the bottom-6 when he could be getting top-6 minutes with Dumais/Brindley.
4. I think we should be looking at a 1-year deal for a UFA goalie, give Tarasov the net, and buyout Elvis ASAP. He's a good backup, but if he's convinced he's going to be a starter somewhere, that's an untenable relationship with the team. Let someone else pick him up for next year, best for all parties involved.
Overall, I agree, I don't think this team is going to see a major shakeup. Remove the pieces that haven't worked (Elvis, Provorov), sign some veteran help for cheap, let the kids develop, take another year to figure out who the core is going to be and form an identity around a solid leadership core, commit, and work toward a wildcard spot in 2026.

Either way, the picks being all the way out in 2026 significantly decreases their value and an okay prospect + Foegele + 2 late 2nds (best case) definitely doesn't get Columbus interested at all. Trying to dumb it down to Boone being "A guy who doesn't fit their timeline" is intellectually dishonest.</div></div>
We probably just need to accept at this point that rational, intelligent people aren't creating proposals for Boone anymore. They know how to read the reports on his situation.

The move heard around the world
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Trevor31lv</b></div><div>Even worse, it's 7 of 8 cause they traded that 4th to get his rights.
Your point about Campbell is fair, but I think it's really only applicable to Edmonton's POV. Like, it only makes sense to trade so much to get out of him since they can also buy out. I'd argue the cost for another team to take it on willingly and either buy out themselves or let it run out is much higher and closer to the 2 1sts I said though, because they're willingly hamstringing themselves at that point, and the cost for that is much higher than the cost the team already in the situation will pay to get out, if that makes sense.</div></div>
My bad there, yeah 7/8 years retaining is unthinkable.
And yeah, that makes sense for Campbell. It really depends on the team, if Montreal (a team with deep pockets and still a year or two away from really competing) was willing to take him on and buy him out, it might be worth it to them for a first. For a team like Columbus, a team that's got shallow pockets and arguably delusions of competing now....the price to do that would be a couple of firsts. For EDM, it's opportunity cost. Those firsts are critical for upgrading other parts of the roster for each run, so they're not going to spend such a significant asset when the buyout option is more attractive.

Boone Jenner is the most overrated player right now
Is this what "rent free" is? Is that what the kids are saying nowadays?
For anyone just now joining the daily discussion:
1. Jenner the <em>player </em>is probably worth a 1st + mid round pick. (i.e. Foligno trade from 2021 which yielded a 1st and 4th. That was an overpay, but Foligno was a UFA, winger, and had worse production at the time, so Jenner's value is obviously a little higher).
2. Columbus has no intention or desire to move him. If you want him, that bumps the price up. Every CBJ fan will preface a Jenner proposal on here with "he's not available".
3. He's on a great contract, so most teams can afford him, even cap-constrained contenders. Increases his trade value.
4. His contract has term (and he's only 30, so still in his prime for the duration). Increases his trade value.
5. He plays a defensive style game as a center, scores a lot of goals, and wins ~55% of his faceoffs. Increases his trade value.
6. He brings intangibles (grittiness, work ethic, leadership). <em>Ever so slightly</em> increases his trade value.
7. The center market is insane right now. Increases his trade value.
I consistently put his ask at a 1st, 2nd, and A-prospect. What's it worth to your team to have a 2C making under $4M for 3 playoff runs? What's it worth to your team to make sure Colorado or Boston <em>doesn't</em> have that 2C making under $4M for 3 playoff runs?

I think realism wise, it'd really take a lot of deterioration from where we're currently at for either player to be move for those reasons, though it doesn't hurt to suggest it as a thought exercise or for fun or whatever (as opposed to what all the TOR/BUF ACGMs I've seen are doing with Jiricek 😂😂
I actually think Levshunov could be in play for them regardless in the draft, since outside of Jiricek, their RD room is basically Severson and a bunch of meh NHLers with flaws + Ceulemans. But he basically becomes a must have if they were to move Jiricek.</div></div>
Yeah I don't see it coming down to that, just a fun exercise like you said. I'm glad I got thoughtful and respectable responses.

Zegras Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Trevor31lv</b></div><div>There's plenty to be said about CBJ not moving Jiricek to begin with, but that's no fun to just say that right?
(However, if you do care, Jiricek is literally the ONLY road to a legit 1RD they have in the system currently and then really need him to work out, so I have a tough time seeing anything materializing unless he just straight up said he would refuse to play for them. Really doubt it gets to that though, since they should have a new FO and HC this summer that won't BS him out of minutes trying to showcase horrible players for trades.)
Anyway on the trade, Columbus is very well set at LD for the future, so if they were to entertain a Jiricek/Zegras swap kind of trade, I can't see it including the other 2 players here. Just doesn't fit a need for Columbus to add Zellweger, good as he's looked, so can't see them moving off KJ now that they seem to be past the rocky bit with him.
Personal thoughts though, aside from the Jiricek trade likelihood stuff - With how good Sillinger has looked as of late, I'm not too sure center will be a need for Colombus anymore, at least not as much. Fantilli/Sillinger/Jenner down the middle while also having a few guys in the system is looking fairly realistic as a quality lineup down the line now.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>^__ This 100%, his kerfuffle is with playing time and FO mismanagement. Easy remedy on both fronts.
KJ and Zegras are pretty similar in terms of play style, so for this specific trade, it makes sense for them to be swapped. <strong>However</strong>, it's too early to tell on both players right now, and with KJ looking good and Zegras already signed, it doesn't make sense right now to swap them for either team. I could see it next year if KJ is mismanaged again and not consistently in the top-6, and ANA coaching gets fed up with Zegras for some bizarre reason.
Zellweger, yes, doesn't make sense to add since he'd be fighting with Mateychuk for 2LD, and the loser would be wasted on the 3rd pair.
Voronkov, too. I'm a huge fan of Fantilli/Sillinger/Voronkov being the top 3 centers going forward, then we just rotate in a veteran 4C (like Kuraly) for however long we need to. That's assuming Boone gets traded or moved to the wing, a la Tavares. We're also likely to have a top-5 pick, so we may pick up another center option there, in which case Sillinger would be shaping up to be an insanely good defensive-minded 3C.</div></div>
I agree I don't think Columbus should trade either player. It was more if they were somehow disgruntled, didn't like the teams direction or front office bs. This type of trade is the only realistic trade I see happening for Zegras. I wouldn't be say Columbus is deep at LHD which is why I included one. Neither Zellweger or matenchyuck are sure things, both likely make it but you know what I mean. They could easily draft Levshunov since they will likely be right up there.
Ideally just exploring different ideas since it's boring as a Detroit fan right now.

"Young" assets? Armia is 15 days older than Jenner.
Jenner is having a down year but still has more points than Armia and Ylonen combined, all three having played between 33 and 39 games this season. And as <a href="/users/Trevor31lv" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Trevor31lv</a> points out, Columbus has Werenski and Provorov on the left for another season and Denton Mateychuk coming up, plus other options at LhD, so Harris, although a very nice player and apparently developing well, isn't high on their wish list.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wreckless</b></div><div>Rebuild. Get younger. That’s 3 young assets (including the pick).</div></div>
We're already the <a href="https://leftwinglock.com/teams/biometrics/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">3rd-youngest team in the league</a>, with an average age of just 0.1 years older than Montreal. Saying we need to "start the rebuild" is like saying MTL needs to sell Matheson to "start the rebuild". It's well underway already, and we're on the way out.
We also need NHL vets to show our literal teenagers the ropes. The oldest player on the roster is Gudbranson (32), and half our regular forwards are U25. Arguably, the team's youth is the biggest problem (aside from the FO).
The surplus of this team is youth, middle-6 forwards, and LD. No reason to add more of that, especially at the expense of our captain and one of the few leaders in an already very young room. If we move Boone, it's either for a legit 2RD long term, a couple of high draft picks (that we likely deal for additional NHL help), or a center prospect with top-6 potential. If he's moved, it's to a contender that's looking for a 2C and is willing to pay out the a** to get it, a la Lindholm and Monahan.

Yeah, the progress of KJ, Sillinger, and Chinakhov especially give me hope for the future. I think it's more addition by subtraction that we need (Peeke, Provorov, Tarasov, Jarmo/JD), trim the fat; form an identity; add another top-5 pick; get a new FO; let the kids grow and see where that takes us.
