There's almost $30M in cap space next year LOL.</div></div>
Im fine with a rebuild but yzerman keeps filling the lineup with overpaid vets. What rebuilding team doesn't have a single rookie in the lineup? Rebuilding teams need cap flexibility. Most of that cap room will go seider, Raymond and veleno. Leaves very little room to go get another high end piece.

so its a given both of those trades will not even be considered.
but the contracts make no sense either.
how do stetcher and carrick make more than Desharnias? they should probably be league min
Demelo is ok but not a 5 M
Ian Cole 1.1 is probably light as well
Perron at 2M is probably 500K to 1M light
Foegele a career year but takes a 750K hair cut?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>I live in reality. Unlike you. Markstrom over the last four years is close to average if not slightly above. Average in 21, excellent in 22, awful in 23, and good in 24. But giving up an elite prospect like Sandin for him is utterly idiotic based on his variance, age, and cap hit.</div></div>
Markstrom is going to finish top 5 in Vezina voting this year. He has been significantly better this year than he was in 2022 where he finished 2nd in Vezina voting. So lets fix that for you
Average in 21, excellent in 22, awful in 23 (until his first child was born, then good), and excellent in 24. So 2 Vezina caliber seasons, 1 average season, and 1 bad season but with a pretty good excuse. If we go even further back he was very good in 2020 with the Canucks too

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>The reasoning that Zegras is already established in the NHL right now is bogus, and ANA should know this more than anyone</div></div>
Care to expand on this? You know how short the list of players putting up 60+ points twice before their ELC was over is? There's been 13 centers to do that in the entire salary cap era.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>Since they traded an established top young player in Drysdale for Gauthier...and look at that, ANA were the ones who had to add an asset.
</div></div>
Drysdale wasn't established, he had a good rookie season and then had every season after that destroyed by injury, go check his stat sheet since season one for games played. He was a distressed asset just like Dach was. I hope the kid finds health and success but we were all starting to get real concerned about his development due to how often how was getting injured and how many man games lost he has.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div> My guess is if ANA gets an offer for a 1st that's between 9-13 overall (and a RD is still available) along with a blue chip prospect (like a Barron, Beck, Mesar, Mailloux type player for MTL), Verbeek pulls the trigger. I just think MTL should stay away from Zegras altogether. ANA still need high end offense, and if they are willing to move Zegras anyway...I don't know what a bigger red flag could be....</div></div>
We're not looking to move him, our GM has publicly stated that to the press, the rumors that came out about it are from Seravalli, and his track record at being right about Anaheim is the same as mine is at bedding Hollywood superstars, zero.
Secondly, those aren't blue chip prospects, those are A- prospects, large difference. Reinbacher is a blue chip prospect, maybe.
Lastly, we again plan to keep Zegras in Anaheim, but with the level of ACGMs rolling in from Habs fans for the last two months trading everything under the sun, and usually crap offers like two late 2nds and Dvorak and a B prospect, we put together three options for Habs fans. Slafkovsky straight up, Reinbacher + MTLs 25 2nd, or 6OA + a Beck level prospect.
Those are the kind of offers that might pique Verbeeks interest enough to trade Zegras, otherwise he stays in Anaheim.

A top 5 pick is what you HOPE becomes Zegras... and his contract is quite good still. Ya'll MTL fans are expecting way too much of draft picks</div></div>
Yeah, they seem to forget that for every Sean Monahan and Matthew Tkachuk there's a Filip Zadina and Jake Virtanen. (All taken 6OA)

We taking gamble on Z</div></div>
No, 6OA is the gamble, Zegras is a known top 6 NHL player at 22 years old, 6OA could be a bust like Lafrenier, Kakko, Puljujarvi, Dal Colle, etc.
And Barron's a bottom pairing D on a competitor, frankly you'd need to give up a Beck tier piece with 6OA to land Z.

Neither, 6OA and Barron barely buys Zegras, and that's if there's someone we really like at 6OA, if our guy is already off the board, the deal doesn't happen either.
Send someone to Chicago or San Jose if you need cap relief.

The NHL needs to change these things
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchJr</b></div><div>Parity has its merits (I’m not arguing MLB type system where Pirates are already out of it) but obsession with it is hurting the NHL. Have to find a way to ensure some level of parity and fairness but when Canes (as an example) can spend same amount of money as Leafs (or any of the top revenue generating teams) while generating significantly less revenue to the league, that system is not fair. But more importantly, it’s limiting growth of the league. NHL is not the NFL so copying their system was major mistake imo but Bettman cared more about punishing players than growing the league. NBA has grown exponentially more than NHL is past years /decades 🤷🏻</div></div>
Coincidentally, Bettman used to work for the NBA and the NHL was growing until he took over

I have no problem with the national anthems, what annoys me (especially when I was at a game live) was the virtue-signalling that they constantly beat you over the head with.
I disagree with the play-in playoff round, it devalues the playoffs by rewarding mediocre teams and blurs the lines between playoffs and regular season.
The 1 series waiting period for players to come off LTIR is a good one, but one I would suggest would be play in the last x number of regular season games to be eligible for the playoffs. That would force teams to be cap compliant (since it’s regular season) and prevent them from stashing stars on LTIR

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>I think the lottery odds adjustments made a couple years ago are fine
Most likely to see playoffs expanded so playing with how teams use LTIR would likely need to be refined when that happens. If they go to a play in or add two spots in each conference then teams are in for a longer playoff run and you'll have less teams selling at the deadline.
An adjusted salary cap is long overdue, it's way to easy for southern US teams to sign FAs and keep the rentals they trade minimal assets for at a deadline</div></div>
I don't like the tanking concept. There should not ever be a draw to lose on purpose in competitive sports.

Calgary can't tear it down just yet, they need to wait 1 more year (don't have their own 1st rounder) but even then retaining on that trade is probably not a move they'd want to make but the value is fair enough.
