Seems to theme among some Leaf fans. Trade Ceci for nothing and not having a replacement solves the Leaf RHD problems.

Cap wise they cant afford it unless they make a trade ( -28k ).....so pretty much what OP is saying will happen....
They wont make it into playoffs and beyond ?....say thx to Matthews and Marner with their greedy attitude that robbed TML of 4M to manipulate with thru 2019/2020 and beyond ( tho Marners camp just jumped the bandwagon )....

It's not close. Bracco is a point a game player in the AHL who is on the cusp of the NHL, Bogosian is a 7D on most teams. He's not good.

Well, whatever scorn gets heaped upon your head, I will share. From Toronto's perspective, this checks a lot of boxes: (1) Dumba is more valuable to the Maple Leafs in their current state than Nylander; (2) Toronto's need for a back-up goalie is well documented; (3) Donato is likely to be more productive on Toronto's third line than where he is now, and more valuable than Ceci is; and (4) Maple Leafs fans aren't going to vilify Dumba the way they did first to Nikita Zaitsev and now are doing to Ceci. Of course, there is the hurdle of a belief among a significant segment of Leafs Nation that Liljegren is the next Brett Pesce, and therefore untouchable, but I haven't bought into that yet. The only possible adjustment I could see being reasonable is substituting Toronto's 2020 second for Liljegren as a concession to that sentiment. And the trade works out well for both teams' cap situation. In short, really well done!!
Now for the invective from north of the border.

I’m sorry for disturbing you all, but I have a question. Does anyone remember Ilya Kovalchuk at his peak? About how good of a player would you say he was? Was he on the same level as Rick Nash? Out of 99, how highly would you rate him at his best overall?</div></div>
Yes, i remember Kovalchuk. He was better than Nash when he was at his peak. Now why do you keep giving us notifications? Also, why in this thread?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheNewAge</b></div><div>I wouldnt trade Hyman to bring back Jake. We are already short on PKer’s after Brown, Z trade and Hainsey leaving. Need to move Ceci to bring Jake back.</div></div>
I would for three reasons, Timashov who cant be sent down to the minors without waivers this year will make the team... probably as an extra which IMO is a total waste unless your planning to trade him (he too can play the PK), 2 Ceci has a negative value as of now and It would be like unloading the Marleau contract only less extreme which I dont think you should do with the lack of RHD the leafs have, 3 Hyman's value is at a all time high, coming off a 20 goal season and can play PK, and some teams need wingers rn. Thats why I'd trade him

Lucic to LA
Change Kovalchuk to Carter and the Kings might do it.
However, this should be two separate trades.
Lewis for Manning swap might work, but the Oilers would need to add a mid-round pick to make it worth it.
Lucic, Puljujarvi, and a 2nd for Carter with no retention on either side is a fair deal, with the edge slightly to Edmonton. Perhaps have Edmonton retain $375k or so just to make the Carter & Lucic contracts have equal cap hits.

His numbers are definitely inflated because of those 2 as playing with them provides Connor consistency that he doesn’t have otherwise. However, he is the rightful owner of the #1 lw spot and has the talent to do more so he is not only a product of the duo

I wouldn't even say that. His production is inflated due to the fact John Tavares was helping him out, so either way. I still wouldn't even pay that much for him. His Contract would be worth more than 11% of the teams Cap Space. He might be worth around 7-9% of the Salary Cap 9% of the Salary cap would mean 7,290,000 would be his contract. Which is more than Fair, but to say he is worth more than 10% of the Salary Cap is ridiculous.

also, Rust makes $3.5M, there's slim chance Kapanen gets more than that so this just adds salary to Toronto as well when they aren't in a position to be adding salary from depth pieces

Fitting under the cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheNewAge</b></div><div>I'd love to have Hamonic, he would be perfect for us. Also, I think the objective of moving Kadri would be solely based on improving our D, I don't think we'd move him to help our cap issues.</div></div>
My personal opinion, so take it with a grain of salt, Hamonic is quietly crucial to the Flames D core, assuming Brodie moves, Hamonic is the only veteran on the right side that can move up and down. He is defensively a rock, he is an absolute warrior and ideally is the guy you want mentoring player coming up through the system. Brodie is good, but he has proven in Calgary that he is only effective with Gio, quick footed, skating defense men are no longer unique in the league, a hard nosed defense first guy like Hamonic has become the outlier but I sure love having him on the Flames. His game is super maintainable too, in the sense that Chara plays a similar game and is past 40.

Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CanadasTeam88</b></div><div>Im guessing Matta is getting traded, maybe for Patches?</div></div>
Looks like MTL is quite thin on D, Maatta would certainly help. But I don't think PIT will change anything in defence in near future. If they are going to trade for Patches/Skinner/other wing it'll be salary of Hagelin/Brassard/Kessel involved unless they get a young ready to play ELC D in return for Maatta.
So they're going to try Brassard as wing and it make sense as he didn't quite fit in as a 3C. He could play either 1) with Malkin and Sprong to complement Geno with the FO and be a two-way speedy forward on this unit or 2) with Sheahan and Kessel to find if there any chemestry could be.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b><a href="http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/penguins/2018/07/12/Penguins-top-six-wing-Derick-Brassard-Jim-Rutherford/stories/201807120216" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/penguins/2018/07/12/Penguins-top-six-wing-Derick-Brassard-Jim-Rutherford/stories/201807120216</a></b></div><div>
According to general manager Jim Rutherford, the Penguins coaching staff plans to test Derick Brassard on the wing during training camp, and it would likely be in a top-six capacity — to take advantage of Brassard’s skating, shooting and vision.</div></div>

Thanks! I was basing Sbisa's figure on his salary this year and his youth (he may be only worth $3.5M now but in a few years that will translate to $4.5M, so I spread it out over the contract).

Using the firsts
Thinking that Botterill will trade for a soon-to-be 30 year old winger in Pacioretty is inconsistent with recent remarks Botterill made. Whether or not Pacioretty would sign an extension with Buffalo is moot - Botterill thought O'Reilly was too old at 27 for fitting in with the young core so he's not going to trade assets for a player 2 years older and who will probably want a 5-6 year extension into the years when his skills will be declining. Botterill is already saddled with one such mistake in Okposo; adding another with Pacioretty makes no sense.
If a scoring winger is going to be traded for, I suspect Botterill would be more interested in the 25-26 year old range (i.e. Zucker, Skinner, Pearson, Niederreiter).

Scandella was only pushed into his top line spot because the Sabres had injuries and no depth. By the end of the year Guhle beat him out. McCabe out played Scandella, despite being hurt in training camp and eventually being shut down. Both Guhle and McCabe should be on the main roster this year plus Dahlin may be on the left side as well. Even if Dahlin wasn't, Guhle and McCabe will beat out Scandella in camp.

Nylander
What with Hawks fans suddenly targeting Nylander all of a sudden? There are plenty of other good young RFAs out there, not to mention Max Pacioretty, who would fit nicely in Chicago but would be hard to resign due to their cap issues. If the Hawks want Nylander that bad, it is going to cost them Adam Boqvist, Nick Schmaltz and their 2019 1st rounder. Murphy really brings no value to do the table other than he is a RHD defenseman and would really be a pure cap dump for Chicago. I don't think the Leafs would bite on his contract though.
