I think the fact that I could see Chiarelli doing something like this is what makes it so funny. Looking forward to seeing what I hope will be a bounce back year for Smith.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BluesBandit</b></div><div>Idk how much you know about Ivan Barbashev from the Blues, but he could be a great fit. Seems like we have a bunch of guys who could slot in at the 4C spot (Thomas, Sundqvist, Musil, Stevens) so moving him could be beneficial to both teams. He's a good player when he gets time and even centered Tarasenko in our playoff series two years ago. We seem to be short on RHD prospects and I know NYR has a few. Someone with possible top 4 upside but a solid 3rd line floor would fit the billing.</div></div>
As much as I like Barbashev, I don’t think there is a guy I’d be willing to give up that’s what your looking for. We have a multidute of signed guys on the left side. We just drafted a couple righties but there not under contract, and the only other one we have that fits that mold is Deangelo, and I’m not ready to get rid of him yet.

Pretty Bad
Definitely not the line combinations that I believe will be used.
Highly doubt the Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich line is broken up considering their success last season.
I see no way that Steven Kampfer starts above Pionk after the way he finished last season.
I'd be very surprised to see Peter Holland crack the 23 man roster unless he was sitting in the press box every game.
I don't think Quinn would bring up Andersson before Chytil and even more difficult to believe they would bring one of them up to play 4th line minutes, believe it's more likely that they slot into the second-third line and move Namestnikov over to wing, 4th center spot would probably be available to Nieves or Lettieri unless Howden impresses at camp.
Understand you're not a Rangers fan so most of that is probably foreign to you, but this team won't be as bad as your lines would predict.

I'm not putting him ahead of.... Hayes would not fetch the return Zib does... admittedly more value...
Sorry the top 5 on 5 I remember reading is here... but for primary 5 on 5 point production since he entered league in 14.

But Zibs did not face top lines as often either...

Trades with.... Wild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SuprDave45</b></div><div>^This..
Everyone just breezed right over your comment...
The Georgiev part isn't the major obstacle. Hank isn't going anywhere for the next 2-3 years, and by then the Rangers will know the situation with Igor either way. I have not heard a single thing indicating that he's unwilling come over when his contract expires, so I have no idea where someone got that from...but even if he didn't the Rangers would still have ample time to adjust. They also still have Tyler Wall and Olof Lindbom...so it's not like they are completely without other future options. Yes, Georgiev is an asset, and a bird in hand when you consider that goalies prospects are by far the hardest to predict. But for the right price, I am sure the Rangers could be convinced to part with him.
The problem with this trade is that the Rangers are very happy with Mika. He's a 25 year old RH shot center who still hasn't hit his ceiling and is under a very cap friendly (hehe) contract for the next 4 seasons. He's also one of the few Rangers that has elite play potential, and is lethal on the power play (two things the Rangers are in dire need of). This makes him extremely valuable to any team, and certainly to the Rangers.
I have no idea where your impression came from that Mika isn't a good match up center, especially when compared to Hayes. That's just the way AV deployed them, Mika's corsi numbers look just fine at even strength (especially considering that the Rangers were a train wreck overall). He was a 51.9 CF at even strength compared to Hayes' 45.8...so again...no clue where you got the idea that Hayes is a better match up center compared to Mika.
The comment about Mika blocking the other centers....lol huh? So let's say Chytil turns into a bonafide 1C (which we are a long looong way from seeing that at this point), having Mika as a 2C is a bad thing? Look across the league at the contender teams...they all deploy center depth...so that's exactly what the Rangers would pray for!
Brodin (without commenting on how good or bad he is directly) is a LHD...something the Rangers don't need. Greenway of course has everyone talking because he's such a big guy...but he's not some lock/top line talent. The Rangers are also overloaded at LW. So both of these players really don't suit what the Rangers would be looking for in a return. Got any high end RHD??
Bottom line, for the Rangers to move Mika they would need to be blown away....I don't think this is a "blow away" package, especially considering the other assets included from the Rangers end.</div></div>
Mika is also one concussion away from.....
Just an idea... but no way Mika is a defensive gem like Hayes in the middle. People want to know what happened to the KZB line??? Mika .... had concussion, came back took months before you noticed him. He looked great at end of year, did he help Krieder or other way? I'm not saying I dont like 25 yr old right shot center, his PP prowess his highest asset something I've overlooked at start.
Look I was no Hayes fan at any time BEFORE last season. I wanted him out... but I think the rangers deliberately tanked him this season with 3rd line center, bc 30 goals and 70 pts would have meant alot of cap space. AND MAKE NO MISTAKE HAYES IS VERY CAPABLE TO DO JUST THAT. Let him play between Kreider and Zucc/Buch.... he routinely is on line with Fast, Vesey, Spooner, .... Hayes is one of THE TOP 5 ON 5 PLAYERS ACROSS ENTIRE LEAGUE....
Think he earned more playtime is all....

NYI trade - thoughts?
The fanbase in NYI took a huge hit when they lost JT to free agency. Their only consolation prize was getting their dominating fourth line back. I feel like there is no way they split that line up now, especially when they can take hard minutes from the kids NYI is trying to develop.

Zibanejad has one of the best preformance/cap hit for 1st line centers in the league and he's tied down for 4 years.
No reason to trade him yet as no one is primed to take his place. Hayes isn't capable of a 1st line role and he's only tied down for 1 year. Chytil has potential, but hasn't played a full season yet, so can't put that pressure on his shoulders.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SuprDave45</b></div><div>Another trade with Mika in it...
Guys..KEVIN HAYES IS LEAVING..., he's gone by the deadline, write it down! Where is the logic in trading Mika at this point?
The Ottawa deal is horrible from the Rangers standpoint. First, they are under no urgency at all to move Smith, for what? Cap space they already have? If anything, the Rangers are hoping he can bounce back and provide some stability on a very shaky back end. They are much better suited letting Smith rebound this year, then moving him for a much better return.
About the only deal that makes any sense is the Zucc trade, which I would say should have the 1st turned into a 2nd. Columbus is high on Milano, their not going to give up a 1st as well. And that still would come down to whether or not Columbus feels they need a RW.</div></div>
Its a good thing these armchair GM's don't actually do this for real..

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Propeller09</b></div><div>Spooner is not good. He was given every opportunity in Boston. He Cannot play center. He is terrible defensively and even worse at faceoffs. He is a 3rd line winger. Boston had a pretty good team last year where he could have been a 3rd line mismatch, but couldn't solidify that. He looks like he should be good, but he's just another guy.
Hayes - Ok, so here is where I have some problems with assessments, not just yours. Krejci takes a ton of heat for not being good anymore, but he has consistently out performed not only Hayes, but also Zibenajad.
Krejci - 218GP 57G 104A 161PTS
Zibenajad 209GP 62G 73A 135PTS
Hayes 231GP 56G 73A 129PTS
Hayes has never hit 50pts, Entering his 5th season with diminished talent around him, I see no reason why he get their now. He's a decent player, but nothing special.</div></div>
Krejci also makes an extra 2 million over either of Zibanejad and Hayes, delivering much less performance per dollar. Not to mention that his linemates are significantly better.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SuprDave45</b></div><div>7th round value prospects don't make the NHL...Gilmour already did that last year and will be an NHL defensman again this year. That fact renders his draft position irrelevant, and his value certainly more than a 7th pick... so I don't get the comment.
Gettinger just turned 20 years old. You may not know the player (which is fine, your a Buffalo fan), but that doesn't mean he isn't a viable prospect. The Rangers are pretty high on the kid, but you'll see that when he's with the team in a year or two. In either case, he was never a 7th round pick, and has since surpassed his draft position already anyway. So again, I don't get the comment.
Not having interest in the players because of positional needs (or lack of) is one thing, that's more about mismatch trade partners. But to say both players = nothing...doesn't really make sense. Throw Smith on top of this...and the fact that Buffalo would be getting a 5th rd pick (which is already by itself higher than a 7th rd pick...because numbers), and this deal is just stupid.
As for the other trades....this isn't my post, so that wasn't directed at you.</div></div>
Sorry for the miscommunication, you said they were worth 7th round picks, I based my response on that. But let's agree this is a stupid deal.

Trading Trouba
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SuprDave45</b></div><div>I conceded that Huberdeau was the more established player and thus had more value, did I not? He had an excellent season, and assuming follow up seasons, he's definitely on the cusp of being a 1st line...even elite forward for years to come. Assuming elite status, his contract makes him a huge value.
"No where near" is a bit of a stretch though, be honest here...
A) 1 season of great production doesn't guarantee he does it every year. He had previously been a 50 point forward. Which is definitely good, but not elite. I think his contract reflects that even Florida didn't expect the break out he had last year.
B) On the flip side, the reason we are having this discussion is because Trouba has not yet hit his ceiling. This in itself gives Huberdeau the upper hand, again I said that up front. But if both players are at their respective ceilings, I would argue a top pair shut down RHD (harder to find than LHD) is more valuable than an elite winger. His contract status shouldn't be a major deciding factor in this, because we should be assuming he is only traded after agreeing to sign.
As for the role he would play, again this is assuming he hits (which isn't some leap of faith), he has the potential to be better than Ekblad, which is saying a lot! Now imagine being able to roll out Ekblad and Trouba, essentially replacing or moving Mark Pysyk to the third pair? That's a cup contending back end.
I wasn't commenting on whether or not the trade made sense for both parties, only on the value. Only Panther fans would be able to comment on whether or not they could afford to move Huberdeau and find suitable amounts of scoring elsewhere. The Jets would need to add some more into the offer, no doubt, but it's not a terrible offer.
PS
I agree with just waiting for him in FA. Rumors say he has hinted towards Florida as a possible landing spot. You'll have competition with Tampa, but why not keep Huberdeau and roll the dice next offseason?!</div></div>
Not arguing that Trouba is good and has the potential to be great, the main point I was trying to state is if from the Panthers standpoint you know he wants to come here then you should trade a great player in Huberdeau just stay the course and get him in FA.

Things I was taught today about player values
Just remember, GM's have value for their players. Its a business. Fans are all blind and cannot truly see proper value. Your forth liners are third liners, your first liners are legends, your goalie is the best and your prospects are all the next Sids and Connors.
Its funny, the closer people are to true value, the harder the fan will argue it. Probably because they know deep down its right.
Its only the truly "ridiculous" ones that get laughed at and then people move on.

Rangers
I'm high on the young Cs we have as much as the next guy, but I don't think you can comfortably trade BOTH Zibanejad and Hayes yet. They're just not ready for 1C minutes. It's wiser to keep at least one of Zibanejad/Hayes and bring them along.
I don't get the intrigue with Dickinson or Chiarot. Dickinson is just a 23 year old defensive C. His offensive production is basically nonexistant by every metric. His shooting percentage is pretty much normal, but all of his GF and scoring numbers are really bad. Chiarot is about to be a UFA which means you have to pay him next year, and he's not good.
So you traded our top line center for a 1st, a defensive C that apparently doesn't even make your lineup when we struggle to put pucks in nets, and an okay 25 year old winger that you put on the 4th line...And then traded who would then be our top line C for another okay winger, a 1st, and a 6th, and traded Claesson for Chiarot, which I wouldn't do one for one. Claesson is a year younger and has honestly not looked any worse in my eyes.
It just seems to me like you are overvaluing 1st round picks for us. At some point, we need to cash in and develop talent, and keep our homegrown talent. It feels to me like you gave out the high quality assets we had to get first round picks and that's really the driving factor here. The difference between trades like Nash and McDonagh were that we don't have term or age control; those players were on expiring contracts or we weren't prepared to keep them. Zibanejad has years left, and Hayes could easily come under contract for 5 years this offseason. Plus they're really entering their prime. I just don't think the extra players you got back justify it.
I don't get why the conditional pick would get WORSE if Zucc re-signs with San Jose. I also think that the Sharks are a bad pairing for us, since their prospect pool is very very weak.

Winnipeg guy here - they would absolutely go for this trade. Pionk and Hayes would be very appealing to the Jets (need a 2C and good young D) and Trouba would certainly be willing to re sign with the Rangers. This is one of the better offers for Trouba that i've seen, and its nice for some people to realize that in order to acquire Trouba, teams will have to part ways with valuable pieces.

Quick rebuild??? Your thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SuprDave45</b></div><div>So true, but he could still make more lol.</div></div>
he could have signed for more per year at the time but wanted it to help the team and in the process decided on 8.7 specifically, of course the length of time was also longer than what is allowed under the new CBA but was a thing at the time. So even though his contract is very team friendly it was still over $100million. The thing is with that contract also is it was frontloaded with the actual money so even though his cap hit will still be 8.7 every year he is actually only owed 3million per year the final three years, while getting about 9-10million per the next couple. Money wise he wasn't making much less than other top players but his cap hit was lower cause of the final 3 years.

Like it or not, Price has something to prove. He's on the wrong side of 30, has an injury history, and owns a whale of a contract! I am not saying he's trash, if he rebounds he's an elite goalie, but it's still a gamble for whatever team takes that money on. Say we pull out a crystal ball and can see Price continues to miss time due to injuries, Montreal would take the deal and run!</div></div>
Not to mention that Crosby's contract is actually ridiculously affordable, and not even close to one of the biggest around.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SuprDave45</b></div><div>You are possibly right, but your going to have to entice Vancouver somehow so I see why he's trying to make it a definite yes. If you play the scenario out in your head, think of what Tanev will likely fetch around the league at the deadline. A 1st and good prospect isn't a stretch by any means. Also keep in mind that Toronto's first is likely to be a front of the line 2nd.</div></div>
The problem with a Tanev trade is the following, Vancouver sees him as an allstar because he's the best defenceman they have. He is great don't get me wrong but he's not an allstar, he's a very good shut down defenceman. So Vancouver wants a home run return for a guy who isn't worth that return. The Leafs on the other hand don't need to make a move but could definitely make one to improve the team.
So in this case you have a team that should trade their best defenceman but won't get near the return you'd think you'll get trying to make a trade with a team that wants the player but at fair value because they don't have any pressure to make the move to begin with. It makes for one side asking way too much and the other offering not even close to what Vancouver wants.

Trade Trouba and Perrault for needed cap space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SuprDave45</b></div><div>Wow, I literally was just exploring this idea in my head, just because it seems like an immediate answer to the problem. Trouba goes closer to where he is asking to be, and both teams don't take a step back D wise.
I think the problem with this deal is, the Jets need a center more than a replacement for Trouba (not that they wouldn't want a replacement).
Carolina has a ton of D, so I think they'd move Faulk for possibly some center depth or forward help (or maybe a future goalie to fit into their plans?).

thanks for comments gents. trying to find a short term solution with 3m in cap space in the problem. little and or wheeler are capable centres too so maybe a finding a right winger would easier. s
