what is that Arizona trade? you could get way more for those players in multiple trades. at least a 3rd round pick for each of them

2nd,3rd and a 4th is better. This would be a much better team.

Yup they have the space. Would leave them about 1.5m shy of the cap.

Oh okay, those contracts are easily moved if they like the deal.

The trade details here don't really matter. I'm sure there are better trades for all parties involved, and I don't think Arizona would be particularly interested in any of those three. I just used the trade to get those players off the Rangers cap sheet; I'm pretty sure they all can be moved and it doesn't matter for the purposes of this exercise how it happens.

?

Thank you for at least clarifying why the trade makes no sense...but of course it matters! Every move you make has an effect on your cap, roster size, AHL call-ups..etc etc. I'm not sure you can expect constructive comments if your admittedly not willing to put the effort in to trade assets logically.

Patrick Maroon just landed in St Louis (his home town), why is he leaving?

I might see a case for why Panarin comes since there have been rumors (for what their worth), but your also signing Stone AND Eberle onto a team that A) they have not been rumored or tied to and B) they are signing with a team you are stating had a horrendous year the season before. Why are they singing with the Rangers.. from a logical standpoint? It also calls into question what the Rangers are going to look like cap wise when they need to resign their younger players.

Who did the Rangers draft as a reward for their tank? If it's Hughes, where is he?

I'm super aware that everything you do matters, but the purpose of this CF roster wasn't to predict what the Rangers will do, it was to illustrate what the Rangers could do. Sure Stone and Eberle might turn them down, but the upcoming free agency class is so stacked that there will be help of that nature available; and that's the whole purpose of this exercise. The context here is that I've been involved in a long-running debate (on the Rangers SBNation site) about whether or not the Rangers should tank this upcoming season by trading away all non-core pieces followed by a hard pivot into contention via free agency. I made this just to show what that process could look like.

And there's no Hughes because assuming the Rangers tank will be successful enough to grab him is too optimistic, even for me.

I get it, but what they "could do" is still very dependent on the moves you make, players you get back, players promoted, cap space etc. It's hard to predict or comment or see the idea pan out when you really haven't completed the painting.

Definitely agree about Hughes, the Rangers just aren't that lucky! lol Was just wondering if the player they end up drafting in this scenario is someone that can be penciled in right away.

I am expecting the Rangers to target a defenseman with these moves to be honest. I would think Bowen Byram is the target here. He MAY be ready for 2019/2020 season and I would think additional moves could be done depending on Tampa's pick.
