Capspace for them. Before this trade they have 11 ish million to sign a goalie and a couple forwards and depth on defense. With this trade, the available capspace for the Oilers goes to 17 ish million. That extra 6 mil could be the difference between signing a goalie like Markstrom/Lehner or signing Mike Smith. I am NOT saying that Markstrom or Lehner will sign for 6 mil....just saying that extra 6 million could be just whats needed to be able to sign a better goalie with everything else the Oilers need

Figured as much. Doubt Petry would waive his NMC to go and Weber is good but in a few years will not be worth the 7.8 million he's being paid now. And all us Armchair GMs say that WPG want established D and 2C so trading Josh Brooks or Cale Fleury wouldn't provide that. Pipeline dream at best

The slim chance Petro signs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>For some reason the video isn’t loading but I will get to what you posted and try again.
Seems he knows about as much as you. The blues are the only team that can sign him to 8 years. Lebrun is great so is McKenzie and Friedman.... none of them know a damn thing about the CBA.
Again only the blues can sign petro to an 8 year deal. They owned his rights prior to the TDL.
The offer as reported was 7.7m but the term and structure were not known. There were rumours that it was as low as 4 years. I believe it was probably 8.
7.7m x 8 is the same as 8.8 x 7. His main issue was structure. It sounds like it was salary and back loaded. Leafs will front load the deal to the maximum allowable.
If the blues can get together with the leafs and complete the first sign and trade... even better. Leafs would probably do 7.7m x 8 on the spot.</div></div>
Sorry bud but that 8 year extension rule after the deadline was eliminated from the new CBA that was signed July 10, 2020.

The first link it says it halfway down but I figured you would question the integrity of the link so I went to the CBA website and looked it up and its true. If you acquire his rights before he becomes a UFA you can sign him to an 8 year. I knew Pierre Lebrun wouldn't make a mistake like that, especially since I remember it was Lebrun who brought up on TSN about how EK couldn't sign a new contract with SJS until after the upcoming TDL.

Thank you. Reasonable opinion from someone neutral. The overpay to VGK is exactly how I saw it too. But Tuch is so good that he's worth doing the trade above. And yeah Alzner's contract sucks donkey butt which is why I gave up one of our better LD prospects plus two second round picks. So for a rebuilding team, thats potentially 3 young assets for 2 years of capspace which they wouldn't need in the next 2 years anyway

Never heard he wouldn’t take 9m in St. Louis... No word on what the term was. Even petro doesn’t know what the structure was.
If Lebrun is saying that today it goes against what he said last week.
I’m not sure what Petro’s going to sign for. That’s why I don’t post foolish things like my opinion is fact.</div></div>

First off, it's not "foolish" things. Pierre Lebrun is the second best Insider outside of Bobby. So if Lebrun says that acquiring his rights lets the new team sign him to an 8th year, then I believe it. Secondly I was wrong it was Any Strickland who said the contract offer from St.Louis was 8x8 and not bonus laden and that AP is looking for a bonus structured contract. Anyway.....

Block me on an internet forum. Like I care. But I am not the one who is a lost case. I actually agreed that Danault was better then Statsny, but you get a RW signed for a bargain for 6 (SIX) years. That is worth a helluva lot more then Danault for one more year. The Stastny part of the trade was only so we didn't have to give as much. We don't need Lehkonen if we are keeping Armia (PS They are the SAME type of player). The first was to entice VGK to do the trade. Vesalainen is worth a lot more then Poehling (he wasn't even traded so wtf). And Domi is not as good on the wing as he is at center and we DONT NEED more centers with Zuke and KK. Schneider is for RD depth, but can be interchanged with any of the middle draft wingers like Mercer or Quinn. And Montour for 2 years gives our prospects more time to develop. If the ACTUAL GM thinks that Cale Fleury or Noah Juulsen (or in the off chance Josh Brook is ready), you trade Domi for a 1st. Anyway I hope you do have me blocked because every comment you post that is not on your own thread is you thinking everyone elses proposals are dumb.

Secondly you can’t sign him for 8 years. Only at Louis can. And only before FA.</div></div>
None of us are Agents or GMS and second of all, you actually can sign him IF YOU TRADE FOR HIS SIGNING RIGHTS. Literally said that above. If AP wouldn't take 9 mil in St. Louis do you really think he's gonna take 8.5 in Toronto where the taxes are HIGHER ? Pierre Lebrun was on a radio talkshow and literally said St.Louis offered 9 mil x 7 years and he declined it.

AP is not signing for 8.5 million for 6 years. He's gonna sign for more then 9 mil and 7 years. Only way that AAV lowers is if someone trades for his rights and offers him that 8th year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMs</b></div><div>MTL lose every trades
That’s pretty bad</div></div>
Not sure how Montreal "Loses every trade" tho. You get Statsny for one year, then his caphit is gone which helps us for next year(Flat Cap). You get a top prospect from WPG who can replace Tatar if he isn't signed to an extension. You trade four 2020 picks, two 2021 picks, Lehkonen, Danault, Kulak, Domi, Byron and Leskinen and you gain a 2021 1st, Vesalainen (Highly skilled winger), Tuch, Statsny,Montour and two 2020 picks. Tuch > Lehkonen & Byron for less money, Vesalainen > Domi and we don't have to pay more then the ELC for another couple years (saves cap during flat cap), Danault < Statsny I agree on this point, Kulak = Montour (we just need that RD and Kulak is LD and we obviously want Romanov to play....no point to have Kulak if he sits and I personally rather a 3rd pair RD then another LD). and Leskinen is what you sacrifice to get rid of the Karlzner contract and we are stonked on LD prospects anyway. Plus we draft RD Braden Schneider with our 16 OA.

Well CBA rules you can't include conditions on picks anymore but I've seen a lot worse players go for a lot more. Plus playing with Mack, probably a good chance Tatar wants to sign an extension in COL.

well as the rule for qualifying is 120% of previous AAV, he would only need to be qualified to ~1.52 million. Plus a lot of people who comment on posts here seem to forget that COVID is gonna drive down every player contract this summer whose name isn't Pietrangelo. Ada isn't getting his 5 million this summer. I like the deal (and not even from my biased Habs perspective). Gives the NYR a 4/5 defensemen signed for 2 more seasons and 2 second round picks in the DEEP draft this year, and they retain that 14 MILLION in cap space to go after anyone in offersheet they want. Maybe they target TBL for Cirelli, maybe they go after the NYI for Barzal. Opens a lot of possibilities for the team.

I see Norlinder as a slightly better Mete and Struble as a much bigger Mete who from videos I've watched of him at Northeastern can carry the puck pretty well too. Mete loses corner battles and net front battles easily because he's small. Yeah he's good at carrying the puck, but he doesn't generate much offense. To be honest Mete would be much better as a winger honestly.

Heres something
Well in order for the Leafs to ACTUALLY get better, Kyle Chiarelli is going to have to deal one of Nylander/Marner. Kerfoot and Johnsson are not netting you quality defense on their own and the Leafs really need a better 2nd and 3rd pair defense. I'm a HABS fan and I want the Leafs to get better, same as my Habs, because I want to see them fight it out in the playoffs for the first time in my lifetime and ignite that oldtime rivalry.
