Dark horse contender
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SevenLeg</b></div><div>1-A Canadian division is still a possibility, so the Habs are probably in the race along with Winnipeg, Edmonton and Toronto.
2- If they keep the current divisions, yes Boston and Tampa are still good but they did not improve this offseason, they arguably got worse.</div></div>
IF there is actually a Canadian division I think that the order of finish would be Toronto, Montreal/Vancouver, Vancouver/Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa. Even as a Habs fan I can admit that Toronto has been a good regular season team for awhile now. The only knock against Toronto is Vancouver/Montreal/Calgary all have great goalie tandems which is gonna be key for a shortened and condensed season. Rumours are saying that there will be a lot of 3 games in 4 nights happening this season so having that backup that can play and eat minutes and wins is very important. I don't know if Campbell and Dell will do it for the Leafs but you never know.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RomanovTheAnswer</b></div><div>I agree.
Jumbo Joe could potentially change the entire attitude dynamic of the Leafs that is necessary to become a true contender. If Defense works out and improves (which it should), the Leafs can be in true long-due Cup contender.</div></div>
I'm not sold on the defensive changes Toronto made this off-season. Plus their offense gets slower. Thorton and Spezza are not wheelers and neither is Simmonds. Toronto is a fast paced dynamic team, they should of kept to the theme.

We Might Actually Be a Good Team wtf
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Oodz</b></div><div>So Toronto addresses their main concern this off season and they somehow get worse?? They have the best offence in the league, and a very solid defence now, with a solid starting goaltender. Toronto is better at every position against the Habs except goalie. Montreal isn’t finishing in front of Tampa, Toronto, Boston period. All you guys did this off-season was trade away a former 70 point player for a middle 6 winger, and added tofolli LOL. Habs are certainly not an elite team and aren’t even better than the likes of Carolina, Islanders, CBJ. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they’re not a playoff team</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Oodz</b></div><div>I mean you guys still don’t have a first line centre, and are relying on KK and Suzuki to repeat the success they had in the playoffs to be successful. Shea Weber is not the players he used to be, and Price is declining. This team can finish as high as fourth/fifth in the division and as low as sixth behind Florida and realistically Buffalo who have a much much better forward core</div></div>
Are you eating road salt ? Toronto's offense got worse. Their depth is gone. Outside your top 6 your scoring punch is putrid. Your backend is legitimately worse. Brodie and Bogosian does not make your backend better then the Habs. You have Reilly. One top pairing Defense and a bunch of 4-5-6. Habs have two top pairing D in Weber and Petry (Argue this point and you're literally crazy - every analyst states Petry a top pairing on every team outside the Habs). Carey Price is still Carey Price. He is better then Anderson any day of the year and now with basically a 1A in Allen as a backup gives a lot of flexibility next season in a condensed year. I'll admit our top 6 is not as high powered of an offense as the Top 6 in Toronto, but the Habs are looking to deploy 3 second lines this year which to me gives more scoring options and depth.
I always have hope that Toronto fans will one day realize the sun doesn't shine out of their asses but I guess as expected a typical Leaf fan coming into a Habs post to stir the pot. Hopefully your team licks the spoon this year.

Boston got worse this off-season. They lost a very important piece on the back end which they won't be able to replace. Toronto got worse. Dont need to explain that one. Ottawa won't be better for a couple years and same for Detroit. Buffalo isn't an overly improved team after the Hall signing and if Florida loses both Hoffman and Dadanov they will be bad next year. So that leaves Tampa who will still be elite, the Habs who are a much improved team. I think montreal finishes second behind Tampa.

I like how the Hall deal is such a specific number to fit under the capspace the team has available. I'm not Hall but I can almost guarantee he doesn't sign for under 6.5 million.

10 Cap Overage Rule - Hall
I personally would trade Tatar now and Armia. My reasoning for those two is that Tatar is worth more then Byron/Kulak and Hall would replace Tatar on that left flank. Also Tatar makes almost as much as those two combined. Drouin line 2LW with Zuke and then you can either sign a 3LW (Like Corey Perry) and keep Byron on the 4th or move Byron to 3LW and sign a 4LW for under a million. I'd also trade Armia because Armia is very similar to Lehkonen and they are both up next season, but Lehkonen will be RFA and he is 2 years younger.

If I'm wrong, oh boy will this be an interesting offseason lol
But yeah if CBJ are more interested in two 2nd's, maybe there's a fit with MTL.</div></div>
Also Kapanen has 2 years signed at 3.2 million then he is still an RFA. Anderson is 1 year from UFA. That Kapanen trade was a "You have something I need and I'm gonna pay double to get it".

Habs fan here. All I'm gonna say is for that Hamilton trade is that the Leafs would have to take a goalie back in the trade. Markstrom is signing for 6 or so, maybe more. Plus not taking a goalie only leaves the Hurricanes 5 mil to fill out 5 roster spots.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DriveFor25</b></div><div>this is so true</div></div>
Literally tho. I did a trade for Kyle Palmieri from NJD and I offered Domi, 1st 2020, 2nd 2020 (MTL), Mete, Alzner and Poehling. I know Alzner is a negative but **** New Jersey has like 40 mil cap space or something in that range. Essentially you're trading a player with a 1 year contract for a younger player in Domi with at minimum 2 years control, 2 first (2020 first and Poehling) a second in 2020 in a super deep draft for Kyle Palmieri and cap space. I thought it was reasonable. Got roasted to bits.
Then I click on a New Jeresy Armchair GM and they traded Palmieri to MTL for Domi and Mete and people were saying New Jersey might have to add a 3rd or something......LIKE WHAT

It blows my mind when I see someone from another team do a Montreal trade that's not half bad. When I do the same trade from the Montreal perspective I get first set on fire, then run over by a road roller, then fed to a cow and then get my poop remains scooped up and buried in concrete.

Picks for Sergachev
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Devil1122</b></div><div>Wood is a decent 3rd liner and Walsh is a promising RHD who could make the NHL roster next season</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Miles Wood is a size/speed player, plays LW. He is great at getting behind defense. Puck-handling is a little sloppy. Goes hard to net. Plays a bit chippy. At his worst, he is trying too hard for odd-man rush and is taking dumb penalties. At his best, he is changing momentum for a team with his hard-forechecking, net-charging style. Can play on any line, but mostly limited to left side.
Reilly Walsh is a recently signed player out of Harvard. Offensive RHD with moderately high ceiling. Patient, efficient, cerebral, quick, shifty. Can hang onto puck an extra second or two without coughing it up. Worked on power play in college. Could possibly that role in NHL. Solid defensive prospect, who would likely be 3rd pairing on good team, 2nd paring on lesser team....with upside from there.</div></div>
Thanks !

Habs give up one of their best LHD prospects, a top 4 LHD roster player, Lindgren and picks 47 + 48 for the 21st overall? You’re on crack lol
Moving up from the 47th pick to 21st doesn’t cost that much. Mete, Lindgren + 47th should be enough to move up to 21st.</div></div>
Exactly what I thought but then I'm told Quantity < Quality ....... I personally would only trade Mete and 1 of the seconds for a Bottom 10 first, but if I actually posted that I would of had 10 people here telling me I'm **** lol

There's no guarantee that Klefbom goes to LTIR for the season tho. And if he does this trade opens up 21 million in capspace. Even if montreal adds ELC prospects or more picks. Getting rid of 4 from Russel and 2.1 from Chaisson and the also from signing Pul for 1.5ish....there's your Taylor Hall back or Mike Hoffman. Just saying it's not the worst thing in the world to gain capspace in a dead cap era
