He's right on that razor's edge of "cap dump", where no one is paying anything for him but you <em>might</em> find someone who would take him if you pay them a 6th or 7th. He's not getting claimed if he were to get waived, that's for sure. I'd argue he's technically a cap dump if you're paying anything to move him (which you would, but again, not much), and he very likely doesn't slot into the receiving team's lineup (which he doesn't).
He's replacement level, any number of cheaper players do what he does just as well. If he won slightly fewer faceoffs or had a slightly worse takeaway-to-giveaway ratio, or if he had similar numbers and got deployed in the offensive zone less than the already-low 26% of the time, he'd unquestionably be a cap dump.

curious if Andrew Peeke is available and if so what is his price
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafs_06</b></div><div>He isn't. He just resigned and their right side at the moment with Gudbranson is off to such a rough start, they are going to need Peeke. Plus I already tried this type of proposal where I traded Sandin 1 for 1 and the overwhelming amount of people still said no.</div></div>
This trade would happen in a year not now but looking at Columbus their Right Side is stacked with guys like Jiricek,Cuelemans in the pipeline plus Boqvist,Blankenburg & Gudbranson in the line-up already. I think in a year Jiricek will be in the league playing Top 4 Minutes as a rookie

UNDER CAP 2
Giroux on the Leafs is such an awesome idea, but I don't think it happens. Met him one time during a tournament in Hearst, absolutely awesome dude. I'm not sure Arizona wants to moves Crouse, and IMO Kerfoot is the better player. I don't think people give Mayfield enough credit on here, but that seems like too much. Also I wouldn't be so eager to move Amirov, especially for a few months of G. Amirov is going to endear himself to tons of leafs fans when he comes over to North America

Full credit to Seattle for taking the best player available from Toronto.
In hindsight, it was a real goofy move to trade assets for a player only to lose him in expansion. Why?
Hes better than Kerfoot, its close, but he is better. He also has a much better contract. Kerfoot for 3.5mil based on his production is overpaid and a solid 3rd line guy, but really no further. Holl has been a great find for Toronto, but lets be honest, hes an overage guy who fits very well where he is, on many teams he is not a top 4 guy.
Ultimately, Seattle picked the best option by far, but Toronto by having McCann would have a better forward corps, but weaker defense.
IMO, what ails Toronto is team depth and thats really down to cap space. The fact that fathertime Spezza is the only thing bringing any respect to the Leafs 7-13th forwards illustrates that. The risks, the injured, the retreads are just stop gap pieces that dont offer much. This team goes as far its top 5 forwards and top 3 dmen.

Either way it would not change anything one would do well with Seattle the other would be bottom 6.</div></div>
I will agree there is nothing that can change. Kerfoot is bad, McCann is good.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>I get what you are saying but realistically I don't think the Kings trade their first essentially for Reilly. Meaning that second trade wouldn't have the Kings first round pick and if they added another of their own or wouldn't be as good. With guys like bogosian and Dermott being ahead of them on the depth chart before means they really don't have much confidence in them even for third pairing minutes. Hollowell hasn't even got a game in the NHL yet at 22 so what does that say? I wouldn't write either off at being nhl players in the future but to label them two of the best in the league is a stretch.</div></div>
In all fairness, Storms did not say they were 2 of the top league prospects, only 2 top D prospects in Toronto's system.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>Arizona would laugh at that offer. If those prospects were two of the best in the league, they wouldn't still be in the minors at 22.</div></div>
🙄
That's a really flawed way to judge prospects especially when their team has been in full on contention mode for many years now
Liljegren has historically good AHL scoring numbers
He has 100 NHL games so far for 25 other teams
Also the offer overall is very generous it's three 1st round picks and other good assets, Chychrun at a great cap hit but on the flipside he's a UFA-4

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KakkoForMauriceRichardAward</b></div><div>I mean that’s fine but if you aren’t willing to trade a major roster asset than forget it he’s not yours
Plus Engvall has basically nothing that separates him from the rest of the team, Goat at least has an edge to his game</div></div>
He doesnt really, Hes extremely soft.
Engvall is a very good penalty killer, way better offensively and defensively and is very fast. Gauthier is a replacement level player and a 13th forward

Fix CAP get defensive term
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>They could certainly always trade one but I see your point. I think the leafs would lose on this deal massively. I certainly wouldn’t do it.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>Yeah, if I were the Leafs I wouldn't want to make the move either TBH. You're losing some significant depth up front.
Honestly, if I'm moving Manson, it's gotta be for a young high potential D-man (Sandin/Liljegren), plus a pick. That also shouldn't work for you guys, because you're going to need those ELC's.</div></div>
I hear both of these points, but at the same time, don't the leafs need a way better defense still? Barrie is a nice addition but you can't always outscore your opponents in the playoffs

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>They are under 50% have been his whole career. There are no excuses, he's just not that good.</div></div>
He's just played on ****ty teams. Here is his hockey reference page which nicely lays out his cf and ff%. <a href="https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/l/larssad01.html" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/l/larssad01.html</a>
He has been over 50% here and there but had been below certainly more often than not.
However his cf rel and FF rel which is relevant have been pretty consistent since he became an NHL regular at 22 in 2014/2015
Excluding 2015/2016 where he started a whopping 69% of his starts in the defensive zone and had a cf rel of -3.7 and FF rel of -2.7
All of his cf rel as an established NHLer (ie 2014-today taking the above out as the exception) have been -0.8-1.8 and FF rel have been -0.1-1.5.
He's done this while playing about 21 minutes per night and defensive starts in the mid 50s.
That's above average but nothing special possession hockey playing top 4 minutes with a focus on defensive starts.
It is not atrocious. It isn't special. But it's fine/solid. It is appropriate of his pay check and a complimentary first pair Rd or good second pairs rd

Sign Marner get under Cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SammyT_51</b></div><div>That is still massive overpayment. 8yr limit should be 10 per.
Also as for Lyubushkin.. Ozhiganov 2.0 but also blocks shots and hits..
Not a good overall player but for that price shown there Id take him.</div></div>
Well I have been super against overpaying Marner the whole time, but the way I looked at it was we all know is value should be 11.1% of the cap over 5 years, thats the absolute max using the Kane comparison, which he should be lucky to have.
Every contract offer and structure usually adds about 6% per year to eat up UFA years over the last while and it seems right. Add that into the 9 mil and you sit around 10.75 mil and IMO he slightly overpaid Nylander by about 5% from what all other contract comparable players said he should have made and the same with Matthews so even with me arguing against Marner all the time I have to agree that he should be entitled to the same 5%.
Thats my thoughts
