Deadline deal that just makes too much sense

Sedin 50%
Edler
for

Davidson
Sherbak
Juulsen
2018 1st</div></div>
Adding Edler will not happen without adding significantly more. Though I do agree the both Sedins will have to be 50% retained to make it fit.
The original trade could happen but many more picks have to be included. Montreal also might not have to include Plekanec's contract if they do not add much salary as they would have over $30M in deadline cap space as of today. I'm thinking the only way Vancouver does this is for something like:
H. Sedin ($3.5M)
D. Sedin ($3.5M)
Gudbranson
For:
Scherbak
Juulsen
Fucale
2018 1st
2018 2nd
Conditional 2019 pick (1st if Montreal makes the Stanley Cup finals or resigns any one player, 2nd round pick otherwise)
It is a lot to pay but each Sedin on their own is worth one high priced rental (considering lesser rentals go for a 1st and prospect have each Sedin go for a blue chip prospect, 1st, and other piece is fair especially at 50%). With both and Gudbranson added the cost will be completely nuts.

Duchene take #2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SuprDave45</b></div><div><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Steven_Dean</b></div><div>There is nothing here that convinces Colorado to trade Duchene AND retain salary. The only way Colorado bites on this is if you swap Gropp for Miller or Hayes and make the 1st in 2018. This deal is miles away from the price you got for Stepan and Duchene is arguably a better player and younger.</div></div>
How is Deangelo not a blue chip/potential top line guy? This is based on what?
Your saying we got a better haul for Stepan, where do you get this from? It was a 1st rounder + Deangelo...and we had to include Raanta in the deal. Your getting a 1st rounder...Deangelo...another prospect AND another pick. That is most definitely more than the Stepan deal...which it should be because I agree Duchene is better...but lets not act like they are miles apart.
Hayes + Deangelo...2019 1st & 2020 3rd.
You get a replacement for Duchene, which the line between Hayes and Duchene is not that far apart either. You get a top pair offensive dman, not sure where you get this idea he isnt a blue chipper...but in either case, look around the league at what it costs for right handed offensive dmen. And you get a 1st & 3rd. Anything more is just silly to bother asking for....your not trading Niklas Backstrom for God's sake...the guy had 41 points and was a -34 last year!!! He had a 70 point season once, he is not an elite level player, you can't ask for an elite price.
So we don't have to go back and fourth, here is some perspective:
Derek Stepan - 7 seasons = 128g/232a = 360 points + 109
Matt Duchene - 8 seasons = 174g/244a = 418 points - 61
Don't think Stepan can score 58 points in his 8th season to fill the gap? This is almost evidence that Stepan can be argued to be just as good! i don't believe he is, but the difference is minor, you are clearly overvaluing your own player!
You could argue that taking the package I just offered...Colorado would be BETTER than last year by adding Deangelo (Hayes washes out Duchene) and most certainly better in the future because both players are younger AND you got picks. it's like you guys traded Duchene...got a return...and still have him on the team, what more can you ask for??? lol</div></div>
Hahahahahahaha you guys go ahead and think that 7th overall pick is anywhere close to worth Gropp, 2019 1st & 2020 3rd. Especially after admitting that Duchene is worth more. Whatever you say fellas. lol

The Bozak trade weakens the Leafs at center too much though they can use the 2nd rounder to find a replacement. Vegas doesn't need nor they would want to take on cash, the pick doesn't make it worth Miller IMO.

Maatta to Vegas and getting Bozak and Vanek
I wouldn't be so quick to give up on Maatta. He is only 22 and his game can improve. I especially wouldn't move him if all you get is Miller.
As for Bozak that is actually an overpayment IMO. Leafs get a 2nd to use to find a replacement center, get Sheary who is coming off an insane year, and take a chance on Pouliot who is a no risk pickup. Though know that the Leafs can use LTIR to get under cap without a trade. The only risk is a Brown offer sheet which looks like isn't going to happen.

You cannot buy out Lupul. No injured players may be bought out. Remember the Cowen buyout? This one definitely doesn't fly.
Besides no one applied for salary arbitration so the Leafs cannot buyout anyone.

Boston Trade
None of these makes sense.
JVR isn't waiving his clause to go to Colorado and why do the Avs want a guy that can walk next year?
Boston does not need another center. That price is too high for a guy they do not need.
Vegas isn't trading their young players for junk. If you want Sbisa or Stoner then you can get away with bad returns but not for Schmidt.

Staal gone... Nashville Trade... Cap Space for a Winger
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barathrum_Obama</b></div><div><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Steven_Dean</b></div><div>Oh I should point out. Fast filed too but they settled beforehand. think the written file is the only requirement, not an actual hearing.
€: palhal:
big minutes are on McD, Shattenkirk, Skjei and Smith. DeAngelo and Bereglazov can be sheltered into their respective roles. McD has dragged around much worse players for the better parts of his career. the problem with Staal is sitting 5,7M in cap space. the alternative is him taking up a roster spot that we could give to Bereglazov. a team that's high on its veterans will probably struggle with kicking out 3 of their 4 A's in one offseason (Stepan, Girardi, maybe Staal) too.</div></div>
Yes the written file is perfect. They can buy him out.
As for the difference in buyout between this year and next year it is basically the same. You gain $3.6M in relief this year, have the same cap hit (minus like $100k to wait) in years 2-7 and then $1.4M in 24-25 versus $0.
If they were considering just buying him out then doing it now is more advantageous. Oh and cap hits to buy him out now are (approximately):
$2.1M
$2.1M
$3.1M
$3.9M
$1.4M
$1.4M
$1.4M
$1.4M

Doubt it. But if you take Helm (rather than Bozak) and DRW retains some salary we'll take a 1st and a 3rd, Sheary, and Pouilot. :)</div></div>
That won't happen. Helm's contract is looking like it may be a crutch at the moment and adding more value and taking back more cap is not a good move. Heck Sheary for Tatar straight up has the potential to pay off for Detroit so getting a 2nd and taking a flyer on Pouliot IMO is worth it, especially with Detroit's cap issues.
As for the Bozak deal, the value is good but since Toronto would have to go out and get another C, retaining cap and getting yet another depth winger is a waste to them and a straight loss.

Very true. Holden does have value (though not as much as his points could suggest) as it is always an asset to know you can play with the big boys. Miller is miles ahead of Jarnkrok but both are very different players and NY would be gaining years of cap relief and a very valuable player.
I may over value Jarnkrok. Maybe. Lol

I'm not sure why everyone is signing Tavares. It cannot be done. Our big 3 is going to cost us more in cap than Toews/Kane combined and now you want to add another $9M on forward? Half the cap would be tied up in 4 players.

Wow, honestly I don't know why the Rangers do this. Don't get me wrong, I love Jarnkrok, ridiculous contract and great role 3rd line center but it seems like NY gives up the better forward, a solid defenseman, and picks.
Might be the only way to convince the Preds to give him up though so on the other hand if NY wants him, that might be the price.

Tatar and RNH, attempt #2
You are not giving up enough in either deal.
While Gallagher is a great player, he had a off year and is a clear downgrade to RNH. The other pieces are a 28 year old AHL player and a 6th. The cap relief isn't worth the big difference in value.
As for the Tatar deal it is even worse. A 6/7 defenseman in Davidson and a decent prospect but one that is looking to peak at 2nd/3rd line. Likely 3rd. Not worth Tatar at all.
I'm guessing if you want them to bite on this then Edmonton will need a decent defensive prospect and a 2nd minimum while Detroit will need an A level prospect and a 1st to get them to basically embrace a rebuild.

Coin flip. Pouliot is no longer waivers exempt so we will find out this year. He doesn't really fit Toronto's lineup anymore but the two picks coming back make it a decent experiment. The downside for Toronto is that they now NEED to replace Bozak. Marleau & Nylander are not being shifted to center this year.

Is this a realistic Leafs roster?
I cannot see the Leafs looking to acquire another defenseman with cap and term unless they are undoubtedly a top RHD. Demers is an upgrade to Hainsey but not one worth spending those assets on.
The JVR conditional pick has to be in 2019 otherwise Carolina could not sign JVR until after the draft getting JVR and their 1st. I would hope we would get either a better piece or at least a guaranteed 1st but the value is ok.

Ottawa is not taking on $2.5M in cap to get a much worse player and a pick 3 years from now.
