Wow, honestly I don't know why the Rangers do this. Don't get me wrong, I love Jarnkrok, ridiculous contract and great role 3rd line center but it seems like NY gives up the better forward, a solid defenseman, and picks.

Might be the only way to convince the Preds to give him up though so on the other hand if NY wants him, that might be the price.

I figured that we would get a solid center at a very reasonable price, Miller is someone who has the value to push the trade through while not a lot of teams see Holden as an asset because of hiding behind McDonagh, Picks could be changed or 1 of the 2 taken away

JT Miller is a better player than Jarnkrok. I'd rather try him at center again than doing this

Very true. Holden does have value (though not as much as his points could suggest) as it is always an asset to know you can play with the big boys. Miller is miles ahead of Jarnkrok but both are very different players and NY would be gaining years of cap relief and a very valuable player.

I may over value Jarnkrok. Maybe. Lol

Oh I should point out. If the Rangers didn't have one of their players apply for salary arbitration then they cannot buy anyone out this year. The 2nd buyout window is only available for teams who had players apply for arbitration.

Which Zibanejad did, as long as he follows through with it until his hearing on the 25th of July.

If the Rangers have the cap space you're better off keeping Staal. Fewer years to pay his buyout. And are you really sold at Kampfer, deAngelo and Bereglazov playing big minutes this season?

Fast filed too but they settled beforehand. think the written file is the only requirement, not an actual hearing.

big minutes are on McD, Shattenkirk, Skjei and Smith. DeAngelo and Bereglazov can be sheltered into their respective roles. McD has dragged around much worse players for the better parts of his career. the problem with Staal is sitting 5,7M in cap space. the alternative is him taking up a roster spot that we could give to Bereglazov. a team that's high on its veterans will probably struggle with kicking out 3 of their 4 A's in one offseason (Stepan, Girardi, maybe Staal) too.

I am confident in it. The team gets younger and faster because of it, Kampfer is the perfect 7th man so we dont waste cap space. Bereglazov played in the KHL so i think the transition, plus what was seen in prospect camp, he will adjust well. DeAngelo will be ok on the 3rd pairing with Smith.

Even the bottom pair play 15 minutes a games. They have to NHL competent. And an injury or two...the Rangers blue line looks woefully thin.

At least there are players that will be able to take leadership roles(Zucc, even Shatty)

But with cap space we could sign a 1 year deal for depth if we need to

that's why they should keep Holden as 7th. Bereglazov is a Zaitsev-like (except he's not as offensive minded) project and that one turned out alright for you too. DeAngelo is more than ready for a 15min NHL role.

€: yeah if Zuccarello doesn't get an A this season I don't know either.

Yes the written file is perfect. They can buy him out.

As for the difference in buyout between this year and next year it is basically the same. You gain $3.6M in relief this year, have the same cap hit (minus like $100k to wait) in years 2-7 and then $1.4M in 24-25 versus $0.

If they were considering just buying him out then doing it now is more advantageous. Oh and cap hits to buy him out now are (approximately):

$2.1M
$2.1M
$3.1M
$3.9M
$1.4M
$1.4M
$1.4M
$1.4M
