What Lou is Going to Do
I’m getting interesting vibes from Lou this year. First of all, using ALL of his picks when it felt as though that 1st rounder was good as gone was interesting. Then at his post-draft presser he was incredibly transparent (at least for Lou). In that presser he said he’s in no rush to give Nelson and Palmieri extensions. It’s smart, but I figured Lou already had the deals done in his office drawer. Then when asked about Tsyplakov’s role on the team, he essentially guaranteed him a roster spot. How many times has Lou done that for a player with no NHL experience? Another interesting thing is how early MacLean’s extension was announced. That probably would’ve been announced on September 1st in a previous offseason. I say all of this because I think Lou’s plan this offseason is to be as basic as he can, bringing back essentially the same squad as last year without hindering the future at all. This allows Roy to get a full season with these guys to figure out everything about them and who he wants in the future… when he takes over the GM role. I think this is Lou’s last year. If I remember correctly, Roy had to leave Colorado over disputes over control (Roy wanted the GM and HC jobs). I think it’s agreed to that Roy will take over Lou’s role after this year and it’ll be his team going towards the future. Lou is just staying out of his way this offseason. At least that’s what makes sense to me.

I don’t hate the Isles trade but it kinda feels pointless for them.

I personally don’t think the Isles need another overpaid middle 6 winger but A+ for the Lou realism.

I dont know what Kuzmenkos value is but he might be our scoring savior
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Finski</b></div><div>Wouldn't you rather save your picks and enter into a rebuild. You guys have some really good pieces to build around (Sorokin, Baral, Horvat), but why not sell assets to gain some really high picks or prospects and tank for 2 years and enter the league as a heavy hitter instead of an outside pick for the playoffs?</div></div>
I honestly agree with you for the most part but this roster is littered with long-term and NTCs so blowing it up would be incredibly difficult. You would likely only be able to sell guys with expiring contracts like Nelson, Palmieri, Dobson (should be a part of the core and not traded), and Romanov. Then with those guys gone you still have a 3/4ths of a completed roster that wouldn’t be bad enough to get high picks but wouldn’t be able to sneak into the playoffs. I think Lou is gonna ride out this group until the wheels fall right off or until he retires because this team has proven that they can make the playoffs, they just need to get hot at the right time like they did in 2020-21 and 2021-22.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LIsports</b></div><div>Ryan Donato would be a good fit</div></div>
I completely forgot about him. He’d be a pretty good fit I think. It’d be pretty difficult to replace what Pageau brings but DeBrincat’s scoring would be worth it.

playoff
I’m an Isles fan and I feel like a 1, 2 and 3 is kinda light for DeBrincat. Am I missing something with his value? I mean he scored 40 just a couple years ago. Don’t get me wrong I’ll take it, we’ve needed a scoring winger like him for forever.

I’ve been a Lou supporter since day 1 but if his rebound after losing Johnny Gaudreau is to sign Sonny Milano I will pack his bags for him and tell him to get the hell out lmao

Johnny G
I like it but I don’t see us getting Johnny unless we offer $10M+, especially with New Jersey expected to be heavy player for him. And I don’t think Romanov gets less than $2.5M. And we need one more extra skater so if you find a way to get an extra $2M in cap or so I think it’s very possible. I don’t see us getting Johnny without shipping off Varly, as much as Lou doesn’t want to.

shed to free agency success
Isles dump Varlamov before they dump Beauvillier. They brought Beau to the draft with them. That doesn’t sound like a guy they plan on getting rid of anytime soon.

Barzal won’t get $10M. If NJ gave Hughes 8X8, Isles should be able to get Barzy for $8.5M or less.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles5513</b></div><div>That’s a lot to give up for a 34 year old lol</div></div>
I mean they’re retaining $5,250,000 and taking on Bailey so it’s not that bad. Also, it’s Patrick freakin Kane who is not your average 34 yr old Lol

I would think that Wahlstrom is untouchable unless you getting an elite winger like Pasta or Debrincat back. Even then it’s tough.

Isles fans would you take this
As good of a player as Chychrun is, that many assets being used on a LD2 is not worth it. I’d rather just give BOS a 3rd for Mike Reilly. I like the Forsberg deal and Varlamov trade though.

Isles make a blockbuster trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>Isles adds in SEA and BOS trades, VGK can't afford Varlamov</div></div>
I saw a report that Vegas was interested in him at the deadline so I just sent him there. You could swap in whatever team and have them give up a 2nd that’ll just be packaged for Pasta. Then Bailey trade I guess you could throw in a 5th or something but Bailey still has value despite his cap-hit. For the Pasta trade I was thinking of throwing in Räty but I thought it’d be too much considering we were already giving up a decent D prospect, 13th overall, a 1st next year, and a 2nd for 1 year of Pasta. I saw in another one of these that Reilly went for a 3rd so I threw in the 3rd to get him.
