No?
I mean, do you watch Holl play? If you don't think he's a high risk player and is carried by Muzzin then you might need to watch a whole lot more hockey.

eichel
Considering the top 2 pieces in Zibanejad and DeAngelo are guys that Buffalo would have no interest in, this deal gets shot down pretty quick. If Buffalo moves Eichel, they're starting another full on rebuild and don't want a guy in his prime that's a UFA next season in Zibanejad, and New York wouldn't move him either because they've been looking for a 2C for years, they won't go get a 1C and still not have a 2C so they still can't contend. DeAngelo is just DeAngelo. Has no real value and Buffalo already has a bunch of right handed d-man like him.
Sorry, but any Eichel deal starts with 1 of Kakko or Lafrienere and Fox. Otherwise Buffalo moves on.

We saw it again last night where Holl and him were the only Leafs with bad possession numbers in a game the Leafs dominated at 5on5. I'm not sure what you are talking about in the 'hockey world' because no one values Dermott like you do.</div></div>
Dermott was fine last night. Ever thought the issue was his partner? Holl has only been good when playing on a pair with Muzzin where Muzzin carried Holl. Holl is a very high risk type of player, which puts Dermott in tough situations. I never said he was great, just that he's shown the progression to be able to handle top 4 minutes. He's improved a lot this year as I said in my last comment, but I never realized 1 game where the whole team was god awful hurt a players value so much. Again, I'll check with you on that next time.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>slapshot723</b></div><div>It's been proposed by a bunch of Leafs fans on this site. I think it's a good deal for both teams.</div></div>
It's really not a good deal for Toronto. Many fans on this site are just basing Dermott's value off past years which isn't fair to him. Dal Colle has been nothing but a bottom 6 option with not much, if any, upside at all. He wouldn't crack Toronto's top 9 and Toronto can fill in the 4th line with cheap vets and AHL options that play the role better than he does. Dermott has started off on the bottom pairing this season but has really developed into a guy that can handle top 4 minutes as a #4 option. He's greatly improved his decision making and his strength this season has been noticeable in his own end. His offensive production doesn't show yet, but he has the underlying numbers to suggest he can breakout. He's finally starting to show that top 4 potential that he had when he was drafted.
Dermott would have similar value to Vince Dunn by the end of this season. Which St. Louis is reported as wanting a 1st round pick for. Dunn has put up better offensive numbers, but has below average defensive numbers. Whereas Dermott has put up good defensive numbers, but slightly below average offensive numbers (Dermott's offensive numbers are closer to average than Dunn's defensive numbers being close to average). So if you split the differences, Dermott should be right around the same price, if not a bit more because defence outweighs offence.
So do you think Vince Dunn is worth Dal Coll and a 4th? Absolutely not. Both players are likely closer to a 2nd and a higher prospect. Or straight up for a 1st.

In a league driven so much by puck possession, to say faceoffs aren't half as important as people think is kinda ignorant. Faceoffs are how you start off with puck possession. Would you rather have the puck after a faceoff or be forced to chase it? Seems smarter to want guys that get you the puck first.
As for the trades, Arizona one seems decent. Leafs get a speedier, more forechecking type player that's cheaper so it makes sense for them. Arizona gets a more versatile guy that can kill penalties. Not so sure the value difference is a 4th, straight up seems reasonable. Anyone saying Detroit doesn't accept that deal should give their heads a shake. A 2nd round pick is already far too much for Steiger who hasn't looked good this year at all. Just taking Bogosian for contract purposes doesn't deflate the value that much. But Toronto doesn't do it because they made it a priority to add playoff proven veterans and Bogosian is just that. As much as he may not fit the team that well, he's still their most physical d-man so he likely stays in Toronto till the off-season

It'll cost an overpay that's not worth it. If a 3rd and prospect got it done I'm sure many teams would jump on it. Realistically he's a 4th line player having a good year on a terrible team, which doesn't scream "upgrade" to any contending team. I'd think Ottawa would start with a 2nd, Stepan got that and he's overpaid and does less. Ottawa coaches and management loves him and he's cheap plus signed through next season on a cost controlled deal. So for most teams, a 2nd and a prospect would probably be the target. For Toronto, being a divisional rival, I'd bet Ottawa asks for something similar to the Blake Coleman deal last year with a 1st and a top prospect. & with him only being anything relevant in the NHL just this season, it's not worth it. Leafs walk away in a heartbeat

No they're not. Someone else gets injured, Liljegren gets called up first. & what team isn't on the verge of calling up an AHL option after 2 injuries to their defence? Remember that Sandin is out too so under normal circumstances he'd be called up well before Marincin. They've been hit by multiple injuries, relax. It happens to every team

Deadline - FLA Trade
I don't think the Leafs are actively looking for a winger as much anymore unless a significant upgrade is available at a cheap cost. & their cap situation limits that as it is. With Kerfoot moving to the 2nd line LW it seems to fit that line well, the need has shifted to a defensively reliable 3C instead

Fabbro hasn't had great results as an NHLer and the Leafs currently have nowhere to play him. Justin Holl has been better this season and last than Fabbro, you're not going to make the team worse. Plus Fabbro is going to cost a lot, and it's probably not a price the Leafs will want to play for a guy who isn't in their top-4.</div></div>
If they trade for Saros, you almost guarantee they lose one of them.
& Fabbro has been fine. He's also been on a terrible team. He's shown he can handle top 4 mins at such a young age which is valuable. Definitely wouldn't mind giving up a prospect and a pick for him

It's also cap management for a low budget team. Putting Henrique on waivers makes him eligible for the taxi squad which saves his daily cap hit each day he's on the taxi squad. If he clears, they can move him between the roster and taxi squad and NHL roster without worry of waivers for 30 days and accumulate cap space. If he gets claimed, the team gets out of an overpaid player without giving up additional assets and it saves them more money.
Fans need to read when they see guys go on waivers. This season especially when it was a flat cap. Nick Suzuki got sent down to the taxi squad too, it was purely a cap move. Many teams have done it.
Chill.

Keep in mind deadline adds are prorated. Bonino is only a $477,155 cap hit. They should be able to add him plus a bit more. Staal would be less than that, I just don't see his play fitting in unless he's in the top 6 which I don't think he makes

Team Canada - as per SN
As good as Marner has been, I don't think he makes the roster. He's smart in both ends of the ice but he doesn't have the speed to keep up with McDavid and MacKinnon. If he's not in the top 6, which I doubt he would be, I don't see him fitting the role on this type of team.
Huberdeau has been lights out this year, dark horse for MVP. I can see him jumping on that top line with McDavid and MacKinnon.
& I'm really not sure about that goaltending. Price has been nothing but downhill for years and Binnington has been hot garbage since the cup win. There's just too many better goalies out there, Price maybe because of his connection to hockey Canada. But MacKenzie Blackwood or Carter Hart are better options than Binnington.
The defence is too offensive minded. I can't see Chabot and Makar making the team, the pair would get tore apart in their own end. Likely Makar makes it for being right handed over Chabot, but likely as the 7th d-man.
Huberdeau - McDavid - MacKinnon
Stamkos - Point - Scheifele
Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron (checking line)
O'Rielly - Couturier - Stone
Barzal as the 13th forward
Chemistry is key on defence so go with guys that are familar with each other:
Theodore - Pietrangelo (Vegas pairing)
Rielly - Parayko (played together at world cup for team North America)
Chychrun - Ekblad
Makar as 7th d-man
Blackwood
Price
Hart

It's likely closer with DeBrusk, Carlo, top prospect (could be Beecher, maybe Studnicka), a guaranteed 1st in this year or next years draft, and a conditional 1st.
Boston likely doesn't make the deal though because they're window is closing. & at the cost it would take to get Eichel it wouldn't be worth it for Eichel to help keep that window open just to trade him again in 2-3 years.

I don't understand the Leafs fans hype around asking for Staal. He's not what they need. They need a defensive 3rd line centre, not an offensive one. The team has enough guys to score, and its obvious Kerfoot needs to play the wing. Keefe wants the third line to be a shutdown line and Staal isn't gonna be in the Selke conversation anytime soon.
Low key guys to target:
1. Nick Bonino
2. Travis Zajac
3. Riley Nash
all fit the role better and can kill penalties while winning faceoffs (Nash is a bit weaker at faceoffs but he's still a career 48% on draws) & I think trying to acquire any of those guys would likely only cost a pick, not any roster players or decent prospects. I'd be cautious to remove anyone from the roster, even keep Engvall.

I literally said Toronto shouldn't do this..
Calling it "15 fluke games" just shows that you haven't watched Dermott play. He was trending this way last season and in the bubble too. Dermott can also play the right side well being a left handed shot, which adds value to him. I wouldn't do Dermott straight up for Lowry if I'm Toronto. That's a big loss of value for them alone.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Yes, Dermott would be playing above his level in the top 4. Lots of guys can be passable playing above their heads in small sample sizes. You even said yourself that he's shown he can play top 4 "this year". 15 games this season doesn't suddenly overrule the rest of his career as a bottom pairing guy. On the Jets, Dermott is behind Morrissey and Forbort on the left side in the short term and behind Morrissey, Heinola and Samberg long term. While Lowry has been playing fantastic for the Jets as a 3/4C and finally providing some offence.
Winnipeg isn't going to give that up for a marginal improvement to the bottom pairing defense this year.</div></div>
Lol. It's called "development". When a young guy gets better, it means he's progressing. & Dermott is easily a top 4 on this team. He's way better than Forbort (can't believe I even have to say that). He's ahead of Heinola, sure long term you never know. Samberg is still a prospect, you don't know how he's gonna turn out. So getting a bonafide top 4 guy on a cheap deal should be a top priority for Winnipeg.
But sure, keep your 4th line centre who's gonna leave to free agency anyways.
