If the habs took more then .5 seconds to accept that edmonton trade then they should no longer be allowed in the nhl. lol
Thats a ridiculous return even with retaining that much cap,
Also that calgary trade would be an insane return and in what world is Lecky worth more than a second? its fine if your thought is they reject it because he is a piece they want to keep but thats about bang on as to what his value is.

Dont see the habs wanting to throw Norlinder in on top of taking back that salary. I know Pens are already right near the cap and need to move money out to bring someone in but i think the habs focus will be on shedding some cap as this guys return from injuries.

Starting roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OlegP</b></div><div>The thing is you have to take into account is the cap and tomorrow's 5pm deadline. Kaiden Guhle needs to stay to get closer to the max cushion otherwise they need to sign another player like TB did last season near end of camp to take advantage of the full benefits of LTIR. And, there is little point to have Guhle on the team, and not playing! If Sergachev got a chance in 2016, I see no reason why Guhle doesnt start the year in the top 6 especially with how bad the other regulars have played defensively so far in pre season. Guhle will get 9 games this year, I think. Going with 7D would make sense as Chris Wideman has been a good PP Qb, awful defensively but he fills a need.</div></div>
Fully agree Ducharme has already said Ghule is only there if he is playing theres no point in sitting him. I really hope he does get the 9 games in or less if Edmundson is back before.

Starting roster
if the lines are practice are any indications these lines are way off.
Evans is 3c with gallagher and armia on the wings. Perrault 4c with leckonen and Belzile
Kulak on first pairing with Petry and savard-chiarot second pair with Romanov and probably wiseman on the third ( i'm not a fan of the d pairings at all) but those they lineswere rolling in practice yesterday.

wasnt like it was going to be a one for one trade. If the price for Eichel is still crazy high this is probably a much smarter move for the rangers long term then putting all their hopes into Eichel with some much uncertainty around him.

Primeau trade question
honestly i see zero upside in trading primeau, he's not a super attractive piece in a package since theres still a lot for him to prove. He can probably start taking on 30-35 starts as soon as 2022-23 i view him as being a 1b for the final two years of price's contract. the reality is you could draft a goalie in each draft for 5 years and not have any turn into starting goalies. We have one that seems like he is on the path to be a starter and habs should be more than happy to wait and let him develop into that. if he only becomes full time start at 27 thats fine cuz i see him getting close to 40 starts atleast two years prior to that and theres the issue of price's injury history, good chance his body doesnt hold up to the end of that contract.

Agreed, thats a steep price to pay for him too, Tuch should slot in as a solid middle 6 forward and Ghule could have top pairing potential, i wouldnt give up all that and a first for another middle 6 center. I feel the choices are either go big and build a package for Eichel or dont bother, Reinhart isnt pushing the needle at all and if anything habs would be worse off in a couple years.

I would play KK over Evans and CC over Lehkonen
first off no they arent a shut down line and no they wont line up against mathews anyways. Staal has enough trouble skating up and down the ice he isnt doing anything to slow down the leagues top scorer
KK shouldnt play over evans (one of our best defensive forwards over the last stretch) he should play over staal, and Caufield shouldnt play over lekcy he should be playing over armia. Fourth line should stay as is.</div></div>

going rate is a first and a prospect, fine to replace harris with another, but thats the base of the deal tatar has no value for nashville if they are sellers this deadline.

Kubs for PLD
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Beetlejuice</b></div><div>Kubs last season put up 46 points and 30 goals for his rookie season and then put up 4 goals and 4 assist in the playoffs

very similar stats
so how isn't Kubs good</div></div>
Yes he had a great Rookie season, as a 24 year old. Thats probably close to if not at his ceiling and he doesnt have the complete game Dubois has nor is he as young or a center. Theres plenty of factors that play into that and his shorter minutes also means he isnt needed to play the same type of 200 foot game and is a bit more isolated from the other teams top players.
All that aside i really dont see columbus moving Dubois without a center being a main piece coming back, whether its an established nhl center or a top prospect thats going to be the main piece.

Big Montreal Trade

No they dont. fleury will has an outside shot at getting ice time this year, also Juulson is back if he gets to where he was pre injury he will be competing for time and brooks is about ready to make the jump i'm not sure how theres a need for more rd when you have weber and petry locked in for several years.
That being said we arent going to trade KK after everything the habs did this offseason theres not much left to do. At this point they need to see what this group is capable of and then adjust if needed.

For arguments sake
even if negotiation aren't going anywhere i dont see danault being dealt unless habs get to the deadline well out of a playoff spot. It hurts to lose him for nothing but keeping him and tatar around for a playoff push is worth it in my opinion, either of them would only be bringing back futures and given where the habs propsect pool is right now I think getting suzuki kk and the rest another round or two of playoff experience would go a long way. We lucked out moving Patches but thats not the norm by any means we could easily move danault out for prospects/picks that amount to nothing.

I think the offer starts at 8mil to even have a conversation with him. MTL may have already burnt that bridge and i think to even have him consider the offer needs to blow him away and also be completely above Tampa's budget.

The trade to edmonton severly hurts the habs future. They are desperate for a legit scoring winger And i give it a near 0% chance that Suzuki lines up as the third line RW hes proven he can play up the middle and i think he slots in at 2C. Going after Nurse with Domi is interesting tho.

Danault or Domi to Buffalo
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NeedTheCleanser</b></div><div>I love Danault. Very very underrated and you could probably get him on a decent value UFA contract.
But I’m not giving up the 8OA pick and a top4 for a guy that I’m going to have to pay..... maybe something like Montour and 8OA And a B prospect for Danault with an extension and 18-20OA If MTL makes a bit of a run.</div></div>
i think you circumvent that and put next years 1st in on the habs side instead of a second. Danault is extremely under rated for what he brings defensively and would fit as a great 2nd line center. The issue of him needing a new contract would be a big factor for sure but he has been extremely consistent and healthy i would have the pick be conditional to an extension. Without an extension buffalo gets 2021 1st. With extension its two seconds. Even then buffalo can get that deal done without needing to give up the 8OA.

of course theres enough in montreal to make a legit package for Eichel with all the needs buffalo has. Montreal would never pay the price it would take to get him especially not with MB calling the shots but thats a whole different thing.

Cap might decrease

I dont think you keep Petry and Tatar past their current contracts. they will both be major trade pieces in next year's deadline. Habs most likely wont be able to do enough to drastically increase their chances of making the playoffs and there's so much youth coming up through the organization that eventually it has to replace some of these older guys. Petry by all accounts should be getting a raise and i dont think the habs can afford that and we have Tatar on an absolute steal right now i dont think its smart to be paying him 6-7 for 5 or 6 years after next season when we will have most likely already gotten the best years he has to offer. If management feels both those players are must haves going forward then guys like Drouin and Byron are probably dealt to make room.

Exactly, and given the state of the habs right now they will need to be blowing Hall away with an offer to get him to consider coming. Also i dont believe Domi is going to sign a 3 year deal either, dollar amount is just about right for right he will be asking but have to think its at least a 5 or 6 year deal.
