Its a hell of a lineup. Im not sure that big d dave is the solution in goal, but we know we have 2,800,000 to spend on a goalie.

Carolina get scoring and a goalie. They are pretty stacked on RD.
Montreal gets rid of a player they can't sign and scoring in their top 6

I was listening to the Leaf report podcast and Jonas Siegel suggested Manson would fetch a top 4 young D and a B-level prospect.

Bracco is behind too much depth. I figured since Anaheim needs to rebuild they would want a young skilled forward as a reclamation project. Dermott is the central piece here and is comparable to Manson, who has struggled this year.

You're talking about comparables but don't bring up any names. In Nylander's case the closest comparable is Pastrnak. He is making 6.66 AVV and posting much better numbers, so not sure where you are getting 8 from. Similarily for Marner, I'd say Johnny Gaudreau is a good comparable and he is making around 6.7 AVV I believe. If you take into account the cap rising and use cap % to figure out Marner's and Nylander's next deals, they work out to be around 7 AVV. Your numbers are way off

You're not going to get a better d-man than Hanifin without giving up a bigger package.</div></div>
Thats not true. You're undervaluing Nylander. As a 20 year old he put up 61 points. Elite shot, elite skating, elite vision and potential to pay centre. And he is going to get better over the next couple of years. I get that Hanafin is a D and they take loger to develop, but he has a mediocre season last year and his value dropped. I think the issue is that there really isn't an ideal target for the Leafs' need at RHD. The right move is to wait and see, not trade a budding superstar

Yep... offer is laughable really. Got to give up quality to get quality back. Not saying Brown or Kapanen aren't quality, but they definitely aren't in the top tier that would be needed to get Doughty. You're looking at Marner, high picks ++ to get Doughty.</div></div>
Not disagreeing here. But the Kings are trending downwards and Doughty 's contract is expiring soon. Will he stay? If he walks the Kings would be a disaster. Maybe a trade is worth it, but then the opposing team has all the leverage. In any case, the Leafs aren't trading the big three, so the Kings aren't even picking up the phone

Mtl to the rescue (Wings & VGK)
The Detroit trade is interesting. I have no idea what Holland would want back for him, but it makes sense for both teams. In terms of the other trade, there is just no way. Theodore is Vegas' future. No way they are going to give him up for, lets be real, leftovers. I think Bergevin has made his defensive bed and now has to lie in it. For this upcoming season its not too terrible. And if you add Z then this team might be formidable.

I think the value is a little off. I mean RNH plays centre and your boy Gallagher is coming off of a rough season.
But I agree with your title. I mean the worse the Habs do, the better for me, but your trajectory is worrying. Your D right now isn't the worse, but in a couple years I can see some trouble.
Also the whole fanbase was really against trading Serg for Duchene and said he is basically untouchable as he is the Markov replacement. But you lost him and Markov and Radulov and gained only Drouin...

Trade for Tatar (starting to build a playoff team)
The problem here is that Babcock has a lot of input into how this team is structured. And he loves himself some Downtown Connor Brown. I mean every time the media brought up the big three, he would turn the conversation towards Brown and Hyman. He loves his work ethic and his defensive play is pretty good all things considered. Besides that, he is a local boy who grew up a Leafs fan and any trade would be a heartbreak for him and his supporters. Also, he scored the goal that sent us to playoffs. So for all these reasons, the Leafs say thanks but no thanks.

In all honesty, not to ruin leafs nations dreams, but the leafs are not getting a top 4 defensemen in a trade involving jvr, and the biggest reason is that because jvr is a ufa after the upcoming season, and no one in there right mind would trade for a ufa to be, who is gonna ask for 6 mill for a top 4 d man.</div></div>
Agreed. Unless Lou pulls something out of left field, the leafs are not going to be able to acquire the defenseman they desperately want. They will have to grow from within and wait for an opportunity in the coming years

Rebuild.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cbreezy14</b></div><div>The Core moving forward for Vancouver is Horvat and hopefully Patrick or Heischer up the middle depending on the draft lottery. On the wings Boeser, Goldoblin, Baertchi are in the right age group for wingers who should be part of the core moving forward. Virtanen had a difficult year in the AHL this year, but still could be a big piece going forward unless they could flip him for another forward similar in age and status. Dahlen could be part of this group, and his first pro year in North America will dictate how good he can become as part of the Canucks future. On defence Hutton, Stetcher and Juolevi are part of the core group going forward. Demko is there goalie of the future although they need to be patient with him and develop him properly in the AHL instead of hanging him out to try with a bad Vancouver team. Also worth noting Adam Gaudette is an intriguing prospect who Vancouver drafted in the 5th round in 2015 and had a great year in the NCAA for Northeastern finishing 9th in the NCAA in scoring. Outside of those guys Vancouver needs to do a rebuild properly like Toronto has done and shed salary of Vet players and give their young players an opportunity to prove themselves. Avoid free agent signings and continue to be bad and add young assets with the hope in a couple years down the road they can become a good team again and not a joke. But there needs to be some years of pain in order to acquire the assets to become a cup contender again</div></div>
What type of return do you think is fair for Tanev? Toronto has young wingers and draft picks.

Well Curtis just plain sucks. I mean he has been one of the worst NHL goalies nearly every year he has played. Sure, this year he was more than serviceable. But thats an anomaly most likely as I have trouble believing that he suddenly got good as a 30-something.
I'm not crazy high on Gudas, but I know Babcock would love him. And with his skills of getting the best out of players I think he could turn him into something better than he is in Philly.
I had no idea about Leivo, you're right. He did not play enough games.</div></div>
I'm not sure Sparks is the answer at backup, but at the same time it is a back up, so it's not a major issue.
Still not don't think Gudas is anything the Leafs need or want. If he is a Polak replacement then you pay a 3rd pair d-man too much.</div></div>
Take a look at his possession numbers, he is actually quite good. Not a bad **** suppressor either

Brown that's a bit of a risk, I don't know if I want to go that far with him. Boyle is probably closer to $2.5M but that's fine, not completely out. Don't know why you don't want Curtis back as Freddy's backup, he was very good this year. Hunwick at $1M would be a steal, so no complaints. Leivo is not draft eligible that's called Eric Fehr, not sure why people can't get this.
I'm not sure if Gudas who has never played 20 minutes a night is your answer, but who knows. It isn't terrible, but it really isn't much of any improvement either.</div></div>

Manson is perfect for the Leafs. But also for ANA and so he's a pipe dream. He isn't being traded. The sooner Leaf fans realize that the better. He plays in thier first pairing and is absolutely killing it. He's cost controlled and by all accounts loves ANA. So you would have to overpay massively for the ducks to consider moving him. Vatanen is much more likely to be traded.

Well Dermott is an AHL'er, but thats because he's developing. He is going to play in the NHL, he's a decent prospect. So value wise I think this isn't far. I would prefer a deal around Spurgeon though

2017/2018 D Upgrade
So this is minor, but I don't know why everyone is resigning McBackup. He sucks. Like objectively he's one of the worst goalies in the league by literally every stat you can imagine. Yes, he is having a good year. But he's been in the league for years so its more likely that he's going to regress, rather than play like he has for the Leafs. Anyways;
Lindholm is the #1 D in ANA and is very very good. One year of JVR and a prospect is simply not enough. Barring an insane overpayment, ANA is not going to move him. Especially since his contract is amazing. One of Marner Nylander needs to be involved for ANA not to laugh at this offer. It looks like ANA will need to trade a D man, and I think it will be Vatanen. In any case, we need RHD which Lindholm is not.
The MIN deal is interesting, but I think they say no. I'd be more into Brodin since his underlying stats are pretty good. He's fairly underrated. They would probs want a D prospec back and some pick.

I don't understand this masochist culture the Jets exude. Your goalie situation sucks, so you sign mason? This team needs a legitimate #1 starter, Hellebuyck is not ready yet. Darling is a UFA and has played great. all his numbers suggest he's ready to make the transition. Give him 5 mil and you're a playoff team.
Or keep doing this weird thing where you delude yourself that everything will be fine and be satisfied with the one trade Chevy makes a decade. This team has too much talent to play like they have

Think about from LA's perspective, you think they would want Nylander, couple of decent players and a 1st for Doughty? I don't think so.
It would take probably Nylander, Kapanen/Dermot and a 1st. Or something along those lines.</div></div>
LA doesn't have the leverage here though. I mean they have over 21 mil between Brown, Kopitar and Carter and a team that plays slow and heavy. If they're actually rebuilding then this is the way to go, but I don't think they want that yet. Their cap situation is decent, but the core is old and declining imo. If they don't make the playoffs next year I think they move doughty since his contract is going to expire soon.
Either way the Leafs are not trading nylander anytime soon. They wait and see what they have in him first
