<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>That's a very confusing title. Larsson and Gourde would only have one full season each as UFAs. Gourde just isn't that special.
Jarnkrok is one a team friendly contract as is Liljegren. Minten will needed at centre in 25/26. Plus the first.
Not sure how it really helps he Leafs this season. Jarnkrok and Gourde about the same. With Larsson at 4m the Leafs have absolutely no depth.</div></div>
Gourde is a center and better player than Jarnkrok. He also has a ring. The fact you think they're about the same tells me you haven't watched Gourde play a single shift.
Larsson at 4 million is a bargain considering Tanev is asking for 5-6 million on his next deal.
Leafs get two above average players on great contracts for two playoff runs. And they can decide to keep them next year because JT's money will come off the books. So they are long term pieces.

Seattle doesn't even pick up. Trade would make them a worse team. Does nothing to improve them. They have plenty of scoring (Outscored Toronto) and Larrson is a key cog on the defense.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Quillanrocks</b></div><div>I will admit, after thinking on it, and as a fan of both clubs, I do find the trade somewhat intriguing! Lol Hellebuyck is one of my favorite players and I dread the day he leaves Winnipeg. But if traded to Seattle, that would certainly soften the blow considerably!!
For Jets benefit, in taking Grubauer back, I think they'd maybe get a better return of which is looking less and less available to them as this drags on. So I like that for them!
For Seattle, having an unquestionable stud between the pipes would be amazing! I swear I needed to take my shoes off last year to count the number of games Seattle won by outscoring opponents! (7-6, 8-7, 9-8) lmao! Not a recipe for continued success!</div></div>
I like the idea if there wasn't a cap but that's just me not wanting to pay a goalie 8+M. I think Gru winds up with a pretty short leash this year as the team continues to spit ball to see what sticks. I don't think the answer is Driedger or Daccord, and so to me it's a be patient type thing. I'm still disappointed we traded Vanacek back to the Capitals after we signed Gru.

If the Kings had been worried about their goaltending they would have signed a big name UFA cheaper and who is better than 6 Markstrom.
Horrid for the Kraken to trade for one year of Hanifan, for a top 5 picks with years of control, many which are cheap.

Nylander is out leafs win cup
The amount of Nylander to Seattle trades I have commented on over the past week, WHERE Wright was also coming to the Leafs is pushing double digits right now. Nylander to Seattle seems like a possible scenario. BUT Wright will not be coming back the other way. S tier prospects are almost never traded, let alone for a pending UFA. Seattle would be silly to trade Wright.

Not assuming this is realistic but
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>Larsson is an enigma, the guy never has the puck, never gets the puck, does nothing with it when he has it. But he blocks a tonne of shots, hits people a lot and has size. He's an okay skater but not great. He seems to make a very specific crowd happy but I don't get it. I wouldn't want him for more than 2 million a year. His numbers certainly have been better in Seattle but I don't buy for a second that he's "improved".</div></div>
I think the reason why Larsson is underrated is that a lot of what he does isn't quantifiable on a stat sheet. He's always been a lockdown defender, and as you pointed out blocks shots and hits, but he's also really effective on that end because he has a high hockey IQ and is able to position himself to disrupt the opposing offense. There's a reason he plays over 20 minutes a night for the Kraken and on the penalty kill, matching up against the best opposing forwards, all while posting one of the highest +/- on the team last year (+27). On the other end, Larsson will never be an offensive dynamo, but his point production has spiked since his arrival in Seattle. I'm sure being on a pairing with Dunn helps, since they complement each other well, but Larsson has a powerful shot when he gets ahold of one and is pretty good at keeping the puck moving. For whatever reason he also has a knack for scoring game winning/overtime goals, potting more in two seasons with the Kraken (5) than over the course of the rest of his career combined (4). If you're not a fan of him, that's fine and I respect your opinion. But personally I'm thrilled to have Larsson on my team for $4M a year.

23-24 Youth focus
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Frenchy</b></div><div>The idea was that it gave them the choice to play McCann at C by giving Seattle a quality 4th liner, and Hoffman for a cheap PP 2 option playing on the 4th line. The cheap contracts also makes them easier to move incase they want to buy an expensive rental at another position and need to shed a bit of cap.</div></div>
I don't really see the correlation between trading for two fourth liners and that giving Seattle the option to play McCann at C. The Kraken roster right now is already set up such that he could play center if the team wanted him to, but McCann's probably best suited as a winger in any event. The only scenario where I could see him playing center is an unlikely series of events where Kartye wins a starting job out of camp, Wright needs more time to develop, AND the Kraken aren't convinced by Bellmare as the 4C. In that event the forward lines would be something along the lines of:
Kartye-Beniers-Eberle
Schwartz-McCann-Burakovsky
Tolvanen-Gourde-Bjorkstrand
Tanev-Wennberg-Yamamoto
There's simply no room in terms of roster or cap space for Seattle to take on Hoffman or Armia. And if the Kraken wanted to make a big swing at the deadline, they could move Driedger or potentially Wennberg or Schultz, depending on who they're bringing in. The Habs might be able to offload those two forwards to some team for some positive value, but Seattle won't be that team, at least not right now.

Seattle is probably the last team that would need Armia and Hoffman as forward depth. They already have 14 NHL-caliber forwards, so trading a second round pick for a pair of superfluous forwards who might not even crack the starting lineup makes no sense for them.

What A Realistic Nylander Trade Looks Like
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingExLeafs</b></div><div>I agree. The Kraken have a very balanced and deep roster. But there were reports that Seattle wants a game breaker in their line up, someone who can generate his own offense. Nylander fits that bill.</div></div>
Just curious where were the reports from? DH and RF both are on record locally that they are going for balanced depth on the team so far.
“This time last year, we sat down, we looked at our team and said, ‘We can win through depth. Our top players have to do a good job but our depth is what’s going to separate us,'” Hakstol shared. “So we tried to really add in a few details to the things that we were doing that helped us do that.”

Which is why he’s still a pending UFA with the Leafs.
I love Nylander and would love him on my team, but he’s not a franchise player. I wouldn’t support the Canes (as an example) giving Nylander $10.5 over 8. That would mean he’s worth 1-2m more than Aho, $3m more than Svech?
Toronto cap situation is toxic with a runaway one upping of Matthews, Marner, and Nylander all caused by 20% over paying Tavares.

Larsson is preferable to Brodie for a multitude of reasons, not least of which is his favorable term and cap number---save mention his value to the Kraken on the ice. I don't see this being a trade Seattle would entertain for too long, IMO.</div></div>
I honestly just realized I retained, genuinely didn't mean to. That was the 50% I retained on an earlier Zadorov trade so must have mis-clicked, wouldn't make sense with all the cap going their way. But yeah, as you can see in the thread I realized it might not be the most realistic.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KrakenTheCode</b></div><div>If you're trying to upgrade the defense, I'm not sure Seattle is the team for it. While the Kraken have enough NHL defensemen for the upcoming season, they don't have a surplus of elite players at those positions, and I can't imagine they'd be willing to trade either of the two they do have, Dunn and Larsson. Those two have been the foundation of the Kraken blue line and arguably the most important players on the team. While Dunn gets much of the attention (and deservedly so), his defensive partner has been just as critical to Seattle's success. Larsson plays over 25 minutes a night against the opposition's top lines, and for those minutes contributes shutdown defense both at even strength and on the penalty kill, while chipping in a surprising amount offensively. If Seattle trades Larsson (or Dunn, for that matter), there's simply no realistic scenario where they would be able to replace him. Because of how Seattle's roster is constructed, the defensive downgrade that would result from losing Larsson would outweigh the offensive upgrade from adding Nylander. For that reason, I don't think the Kraken will even entertain the idea of trading Larsson or Dunn.
If Toronto wants to make a serious defensive upgrade in a Nylander trade, the Kraken could send them some good assets that they could reroute elsewhere for a top flight blue liner, but I can't see them being willing to give up their own elite defensemen.</div></div>
I appreciate the thoughtful and amiable response; that's rare around these parts. I can totally understand your point of view and truth be told I've just been spitballing different trades with different teams. The reason I chose the Krakken this time is precisely because of my respect for Larsson's game and how underrated he remains to this day.
I was hoping he might be underrated enough for the potential of a trade but you clearly know your stuff. Respect for not getting caught up in the flash and dash...
Serious question, is it time to revisit the Hall for Larsson trade? I mean, I know who I'm taking right now and he's not going to be a cap dump to the hawks...
Keep providing the reasonable dialogue that helps to educate us all. Cheers!

McCann and Larsson have two of the best value contracts in the league. Having a 40 goal scorer and a top pairing RHD for a grand total of $9M annually allows Seattle to build the sort of team depth that has been critical to their success, and I can't see the Kraken giving up one, let alone both, anytime soon, even for someone as good as Nylander. Personally I'd much rather have McCann and Larsson than Nylander on the Kraken, even with Brodie and Robertson thrown in. That's not to say I'm opposed to Seattle exploring a trade for Nylander, but I'm fairly confident neither McCann nor Larsson would be involved. The Kraken would be acquiring a player like Nylander to play WITH those guys.
