OK, final thoughts:

-The Czechs outplayed the US tonight, plain and simple. The first half of the first period was all USA, and they got rewarded for it when the puck took a weird bounce off the stanchion to Coronato, who dished it to Cooley for the opening goal. But after that, the Czechs took over. Mysak had a beautiful redirect off a shot from the point to tie the game late in the 1st period, but even after that the USA still looked like the better team going into the first intermission. But the 2nd period was all Czechia-on the breakout, on the rush, along the wall, everywhere, the Czechs were winning races to the puck again and again, before Hauser finally gave them the lead with a terrific snipe. Then Mbereko made a horrible misplay on a nondescript Czechia shot which trickled through his legs, and just like that, it was 3-1. Berard's idiotic slew-foot at the beginning of the 3rd wasted 5 minutes, and thought the USA scored on a 5 minute PP of their own after Cooley got kneed, it wasn't enough. Kulich sealed it with the empty-netter. Czechia stuns the USA 4-2.
-Luke Hughes, though I love the guy, was clearly hurting for the rest of the game after he twisted his leg. Props to him for grinding it out, but he was done. Should've been benched after the injury. He just wasn't close to his normal self, and it made the USA's challenge even harder.
-I know the shot was blocked by a Czech stick, but poor, poor Coronato. He'll be seeing that wide-open net for a long time.
-And that's it. The USA, after completely dominating in the prelim games, goes out in shocking fashion to a vastly inferior Czech team that played the game of its life on the night where the USA looked out of sync, frustrated, and hobbling. It's just a heartbreaking finish for an incredibly skilled team (and I don't know why they make the losing team stay out on the ice for the other team's anthem being played, I get that it's good sportsmanship, but the USA players were practically crying on the ice, there's no need to have it rubbed in their faces, I would say the same for the Czechs if the USA won). But congrats to Czechia. They were simply the better team.
