He's actually a solid prospect and because of that I think two 2nds isn't bad, but it likely still takes a 1st to get the convo started because there would be a major bidding war for him if he came available. That said there's zero chance the Pens are trading Pettersson UNLESS it's at the deadline and they've just completely crapped the bed.

Tbh tho I don’t see Pit bringing in another big goalie contract… unless we’re completely rebuilding and saying Blomqvist is the next guy and in that case we’d move Jarry out too…
So while I think the package is close to fair in value objectively, the fit isn’t the best overall…</div></div>
Campbell is on the hook for THREE more years past this one. That's two firsts.

Losing eight out of eleven leads us to this
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>Which would be significantly less than what is shown here. Calling Tippett a 'top prospect' at that point is a stretch. It was his 3rd NHL season and he had never had much success. He wasn't even eligible for Calder consideration anymore. To turn this into the Giroux trade, you'd be dropping the 2nd to a 3rd and taking Lekkerimäki, who might be the biggest piece of the trade on the Vancouver side, out entirely and delaying the 1st round pick. That's the gap and it's a very significant leap.</div></div>
Because Giroux had significantly less value for a multitude of reasons. Giroux was 34 at the time of the trade, Jake would be 29. Giroux had a full NMC so the flyers had very little leverage. Jake has a 12 team NTC so there would absolutely be bidding war for him. Jake already has more goals and more points in 12 less games than Giroux has at the time of trade. Tippet absolutely was a top prospect. He was only 21 or just turned 22 at the time of the trade and was already getting significant nhl time. It was also only his 2nd nhl season. He played 7 games, which doesn’t count as an nhl season. Then he played 40 something games the following season which was considered his rookie season. So to sum it up, the reason there’s a significant leap in this trade to the Giroux trade is because you’re getting a better player with much more trade value.

This might sound depressing but I have a feeling Canucks might do this deal with the Penguins.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>By all means list them here. What you might notice is that the best players available in any given season all fetch around the same price across seasons, it doesn't matter how good they are compared to each other just that they are the best available. The only ones who fetch this kind of price are ones who have either term or extensions in place upon being traded. The idea that Guentzel is the only 'major winger' available is non-sense too. Tarasenko and Toffoli aren't all that far behind him in scoring while playing a lot less ice time. Pacioretty has had a good start in Washington too after not playing for 2 seasons. He should be expected to keep on improving.</div></div>
That is not true at all lol. Giroux was a pending UFA and got a 1st, a 3rd, and top prospect. And that was with Giroux having a NMC and picking where he went.

I’ve made a lot of offers for Pettersson lol so I don’t really remember either. All in the same range/approximate value. Really just about finding pieces that work for both Pitt and Jersey tbh (of course I’m not the GM so it all means nothing but oh well

Devils don't need the retention. Probably wouldn't go with the ECF condition. Don't need Nieto either.

I don't think Graves is a bad player or on an unreasonable deal, but he's got no home in Anaheim, we are flooded with young LHD, there's no greater spot for Graves.

NHL insiders take on moving Jake
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pens3lieve</b></div><div>I agree lol 100% I just wondered if NYR would be willing to move their most recent 1st round picks but if they're available I'd obviously prefer them to Cuylle... what are your thoughts on the value of the trade? and would NYR have interest in guentzel?</div></div>
I think Cuylle could be exposed, but not othmann or Perreault. Cuylle has looked decent but dragged down playing with Bonino and/or Wheeler. Othmann will be NHL ready next year, NYR want him to get a full year in the AHL. Only problem is they’re both LW’s unless one of them moves to RW like Laffy did
As awesome as it would be to have Guentzel on the rangers, I don’t want them to give up a ton of assets for a rental. I’m sure Drury will check in on him

Puustinen must stay
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Marcsnack</b></div><div>Agreed. Even when Rust and Rakell come back and we wanna keep those guys in the top 6, Puustinen should at least be on the 3rd line. Offensively, he definitely brings more than any of DOC, Zohorna, Harkins, etc.</div></div>
I firmly believe that Puustinen needs to stay in the top 6 to be most successful. He moves the puck too well at the NHL pace to not be facilitating Malkin. Putting him with Eller and the forechecking DOC would be a disservice to the smaller Puustinen’s play style. When everyone’s healthy, I say move Rakell to the third line and run three very solid lines.

Penguins - Tear it down
These are terrible deals for the penguins?????
I think Jake to COL makes sense, but I doubt that's where COL adds. Jake is worth a 1st + prospect (or 2nd) at deadline.
POJ is not worth a 3rd.
Pety and Smith NTC's block the trade to Arizona. Pety retained at 50% is easily returning a 1st to a team contending that needs a defenseman badly (TOR/DAL/NJ/Etc). Not sure what you can do with smith given his cap hit and realistically the pens would retain on Jake and Pety and those spots are the only two open.
The EDM trade is god awful. How do you not have a pens getting a 1st round pick in that? No one is taking Campbell's cap/term without at least a 1st coming back and EDM knows that.
