I'm not hugely knowledgeable on the players but I feel like given their contracts and age, Marino is probably slightly more valuable here.
I think Pitt is giving up a bit too much.

I'm not sure if Coyotes will get more for Kessel. Zucker AND Aston Reese plus a conditional 3rd is a good offer for him as a rental. He's far from his prime when he played for us in our back to back cups.

I agree with you there even if PIT cracks the top-3 in the metro.....
i don't think they should trade him, but they could prob get a replacement middle-6 winger + another asset to make it worth it...

Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Marcsnack</b></div><div>Why would NSH want another C? I feel like their wingers are a bit under average, other than Forsberg of course. NSH is in the playoff hunt, and I see them being buyers. However, I do not see them moving any high end picks or prospects. Although $5.5M is a bit much, I will agree, adding Zucker for a 3rd seems like a very good deal. He can definitely play in the top 6, and if anything, can easily be moved next deadline if NSH is out of it. I see little risk and the reward can be great. From PIT's end, the reason I trade him is because we are going to need cap this offseason.. I do not see that being an issue for NSH.</div></div>
Zucker is a cap dump with term, who hasn't played well for a long time now. Another top 6 winger would be nice, but Zucker isn't that guy anymore. While NSH is unexpectedly looking like a solid bet to make the playoffs, this still doesn't look like the season for them to sell the farm and go all in on a playoff run.
I like Carter for the Preds because I think he'd excel as the 4C. Novak has been fine, but he's still a green rookie, and hasn't had much scoring success to date. I think Carter's Cup experience would be a boon for the whole team, and he could help Tomasino find the next level to his game. Carter's been having a strong season at his age, and he's got the size that John Hynes seems to favour. The fact that he's a UFA is a plus, as NSH has Novak and Glass who'll need roster spots next season. A vet addition with term remaining would take a roster spot away from them, hindering their development.

Minimal changes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>Wow. You actually have no idea who TJ Oshie is. He's on pace for thirty goals this year, for like the fourth time in five years. He singlehandedly beat Team Russian in a shootout for a bronze medal at the Olympics. The Russians sent out Malkin, Kovalchuk, Ovechkin, etc. The Americans sent Oshie, Oshie, Oshie, and more Oshie. And he beat them. He's got hands for days around the net. He's been net-front on a top-five power play since he arrived in WSH in the summer of 2015, but he's not a power play specialist. At 18 minutes a night he leads the Caps' right wings, still, in ice time. He's only on pace for 110 hits this year, down from his usual 120+, but he's on pace for 30 goals and 35 assists if he could play in 82 games this year. Who else is in the expansion draft who is that good at ice hockey right now? Yes, it's possible that Boston somehow fails to sign Hall, but Hall is on pace for 12 goals this year, so I don't see the relevance. I don't think there's any chance Nuge leaves Edmonton now that they're finally in the playoffs, but Nuge is only on pace for 25 goals this year. He is not currently scoring goals as well as Oshie, even though he plays with better centers. So, no. We don't agree to disagree. I'm right. You're wrong. Oshie is the best player who might be realistically available to Seattle this year. Thanks for playing. Have a nice evening.</div></div>
dude you're hanging on to things that happened like a decade ago. Oshie hasn't been a real net front for WSH in ages. They park wilson down low. He's been playing off the wall for a long time.
Come on now, you can't get away with "you don't know who he is. We both know I've seen him play a lot. Your typical WSH power play is OV on the Left circle, Wilson down low, and Carlson on the point with both Oshie and Backstrom on the Right wall / below the goal line. Trying to drag the D over for a 1 timer for Ov. He ain't be a real net front man in forever. And you say I don't know the team.....
He's 35 next year. You are here limiting this to the expansion draft. They got all of FA, the regular draft, etc... to get their players.
Furthermore, the question is more than just Oshei as a player, it has every damn thing to do with that contract. You are kidding yourself if you think they are taking that contract.
We'll see soon enough who is actually right.

Lines i would like to see
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PENSFAN18</b></div><div>Let's just say this. The Caps are slow. I bet you right now this Washington Team misses the playoffs. Their bottom six is ass. Their Defense... the less said the better. No one will take those contracts. 4 years for Garnet Hathaway, Richard Panik and Carl Hagelin?!?! Hilarious. Chara is old and slow and yet he has more points than half your team! Y</div></div>
When they signed Hathaway, Panik, and Hagelin, their PK was a bottom ten unit in the league. It immediately became a top ten unit. Those guys also finish checks and can play with the puck, sometimes. Hathawy looked like an enforcer, at the time, to take some of that workload away from Wilson, so he wouldn't be suspended as much. Chara is an ageless giant who holds the record for the hardest shot in NHL history, and always puts up a few points. There's more to hockey than just skating fast.
Obviously the NHL has great parity and any team can make or miss the playoffs. With the new coach, the Caps started out winning a bunch, and then they went on a slide. You can blame their #10, 12, and 13 forwards if you want, but I think a more likely reason would be the injuries to their #1 and #2 goalies, and the fact that a true rookie who barely speaks English yet has been their starter.
Add in the week or two where Eller was injured and Orlov and Kuznetsov were out for Covid protocol? I think most teams would struggle without two of their top three centers and their 2nd best defenseman. Even before missing their best goalie and one of the best goalies of this millennium.

Thoughts after 16 games
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PENSFAN18</b></div><div>I think Zucker is a trade candidate. Unless he turns it around. I'll protect Matheson over Pettersson easily. Matheson has been fantastic since coming off of Injury. He's far more faster and has more offense then Marcus Pettersson. His denfesive ability ahs also been good as well. He's a +6 right now. He's not leaving the lineup.</div></div>
while I agree Matheson has played well, he'll be the contract they move. As for Zucker don't count on it.
This team has played with little blueline help, they still don't have a fully healthy blueline. They won't be making judgements based on them getting pinned back at times because of AHLers.

WASH WILL NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS
Some things I'll argue you on:
Samsonov already began skating three weeks ago and is back to practicing, the team knows the degree of the injury, in that he is 100% and it's healed already.
Kuznetsov had 52 points in 63 games in a down year. Unless he gets injured, I don't see how he could ever get less than 50 points, given he always plays on the first PP and plays with Ovi half the time. If the season is limited to 60ish games, maybe in the 50s.
Ovi is one season off of yet another 50+ goal pace (if a full season had happened), and you predict a potential 18 goal season? I don't think he's really a wildcard, maybe he regresses a BIT in goals, but you think he'll go from 48 to potentially not even 20?
I don't know where you are getting that Orlov is a liability... he isn't at all
I'm not even going to bother arguing about your Wilson comment... I understand hatred for Wilson as a player given his history but if you deny his skill and power forward ability in the top 6 you obviously don't know enough about hockey
One year of age does not bring this team from first in their division to missing the playoffs lol. Multiple years away from that imo. Now if you were to say 'if this team doesn't get younger than in 2/3 years they will be a bottom 10 team' I might agree with that statement more

I for one am all about the penguins winning. Everyone hear me out.... As long as the pens still have CROSBY & GENO, we will be in the playoffs!! Pittsburgh currently holds the longest playoff streak to this day!

Do these work for these other teams
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PENSFAN18</b></div><div>I think the Caps need to dump 2 guys. Panik or Hagelin, Jensen, Dowd. Vrana, Ovi, and Samsonov need contracts + Sigenthaler needs one also and I expect that he will get 2 million.</div></div>
Thanks. That is the conventional wisdom. However:
a: three of those contracts are next summer, and the easiest way to trade Panik or Hagelin next summer is to play them in the top six roles they're capable of and get each of them 20g 40p. That's also going ot reduce Vrana's ice time and keep his next contract from having to be as huge. He'll still get a big long-term deal, because he's awesome, but there's no sense trying to get him to 100 points in his contract year and then having to lose Ovechkin over it. That's what rebuilding teams do, to maximize trade returns at the deadline. Caps shouldn't plan on trading Vrana if they want to make the playoffs next year, which they easily can.
b: Dowd earns less than a prospect and can pass for a 3C in the event of an injury. Trading him doesn't clear significant cap space, because they still want to ice 23 guys. Pittsburgh will find somebody. Don't worry.
c: I traded all three of those other guys above in fair deals for guys I think have better name recognition, who would be easier to trade for cap space next summer, made the defense better, and kept the offense pretty good. Keeping the team good enough to win the division and lose the first round should be a nope.

McCann is not a center, they know that. They just don't have anyone better. And while I agree prospects for a 3C look bleak, they have to at least try to do better.

murrays value is like a second and a prospect (right now) and is apparently dropping. The Value it would cost to dump JJ outweighs whatever value matt Murray has. If you trade JJ and Murray together (even with retention on JJ) a more realistic return would be like a 5th round pick at most
