Yes but there were more pieces as well, 2 prospects and a 5th round pick went with Giroux, there was a 3rd rd to Philly with Tippett but the 1st was also conditional.

Unless a deal comes with a cheaper AAV extension I can't see any team paying much more than this for one year or less of Kane.

Ok I hadn't seen that out of OTT so could very well be on Paul. I also think Kulak maybe demands a bit more on the open market but would take a small discount to play in his home town. Kuemper will be sought after of course but I think will take a bit less money or term to be on an immediate contender though coming off of this run which would take out 2-3 of those listed, especially if they don't take the finals.

Kind of basing on Kane winning arbitration with SJ and them having to just top off his money for the 3 years remaining on his deal so he would truly make 7 mil but Edm only paying 5.5 mil of that. Kuemper probably does get more term but I'm not convinced more money, that is why I mentioned a different option if he can't be signed for those terms. i'm not sure any of the others listed get more term or money do they?

Yes it is but a smart GM stays out of it, way too small a sample size for dishing out term and money like that, those are the contracts that haunt you immediately. He had 15 fantastic games 56 very average games in 71 total NHL games played.

Does nobody see shades of Koskinen, Binnington or Matt Murray contracts when dishing out $5 mil plus for Husso with only 60 games of NHL experience under his belt? Could look very bad very quickly and impossible to bury or get rid of when that happens.

Any GM signing Husso to that money and term after such a small sample size would be crazy, way too many examples out there why this is a horrible decision.

Why does everyone have a 5 million dollar love for Husso after less than 60 NHL games, is this not exactly the situation that Koskinen was signed to a 3 year overpriced deal, why is everyone so fast to give this out again. We have all seen what an over reaction to a goaltender with small sample sized start has been handed contract wise ( Binnington, Murray, Hart ) and what those teams are facing today, basically all have been on the block or are untradeable with their deals. If they cannot find a bonafide number 1 through trade or UFA then the Oilers have this same goaltender already in Skinner, sign a Holtby type to a 1-2 year deal to split for a year and then backup for a year until Konovalov or Fanti can backup full time, this franchise needs to be smart with the goaltending situation for a change.

Absolutely no way they give up that much for Reinhart, both Holloway and Lavoie could be impact players as early as next year both on entry level deals and then to add a first. If this is a package that gets done it better be for a lot more than just Reinhart.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>redwingsfan04</b></div><div>Detroit would be willing to accept cap dumps but that isn't nearly enough to dump Neal and get Rasmussen back.</div></div>
My thoughts exactly, he is a 9th overall pick that's only 22 years old, a huge body that can skate with nothing but upside. The second round pick maybe gets you rid of the Neal contract but there would need to be something else in this deal that gets you Rasmussen included.

Sorry but this is a bad take, this had zero impact on his value at all and the addition to an Oilers team or any other team is still high. Maybe not a 1st, 2nd and Lavoie but definitely one of those picks and a high prospect or both picks. Kinda like saying no GM would take Marchand after he licked a face......every GM in the league still takes either player at the right price.

Khaira, Nuge, Archie, McLeod, Drai.......moving Kass out for Ennis and shuffling lines really does not change the special teams whatsoever just makes sense 5v5, no one was removed that plays PK. Also very likely we see the same trend in penalties unless the scrums get worse or start to see some retaliation calls, they are not going to call near the holds or interference infractions we saw all year.

He hasn't fought since he broke his finger and I think the Jets know that, from how physical he has been since he was hurt the first time this season I won't bank on him being the big hitter the Oil saw in 2017 playoffs. No other reason to have him in the top 6 otherwise as his play certainly doesn't dictate him being there.

Oilers 2021 cup run
No way Holloway starts the year in the NHL, quite possible they fill the 1st line LW with an expiring contract for a year from a non contender in the off season and Holloway does not see any or extremely limited NHL time unless he rips up the AHL like no one has seen before. Holland will not rush him at all.

Possibly, Dubas is creative and I think they will do what they can to re sign him, but there are teams that will overpay and that could draw him out.

Whats the best UFA LW for mcdavid next season
As far as the whole package with age and size I would take Hyman at around 5.5 - 6 mil, TO may try to make room for him at that but can't pay him much more and I don't think he fetches any more than 6 with a flat cap but someone like Colorado could overpay. Others could overpay too but I do not believe he sacrifices winning in the next few years over a few dollars, in the same breath won't take too heavy of a home town discount in this contract to stay in TO either.

I think the Leafs better be prepared to pay Hyman more than that or lose him on the open market, a home town discount is one thing but this will be his prime contract in his career unless its a bridge deal which is not typical at age 28. His numbers this year suggest Nylander money as he has the similar points in less games, I wouldn't think he takes any less than 5 mil to stay, probably more as an FA.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmah007</b></div><div>For the pp it’s tough with Edmonton they have such an unreal 5 man unit it’s unfortunate really for guys like yam or jp when the first unit just stays out there for the full pp they are lucky to get time so part of me wants to split it up and roll two actual units however loading up is just so darn fun to watch and can’t argue with results so at the end of the day my vote is just have a 5 man unit let mcdavid and Leon get their time in together there because 5-5 mostly be split up. Threw the tail end of season I’d like to see bouch given a shot on pp while the unit is use to a right hand shot back there.</div></div>
Yes its hard to split up a unit that is that deadly no doubt, my only issue is that once in awhile they do get caught at the tail end of a PP and give up a break or an odd man rush with a tired unit out and then seem to se momentum shift after a good cycle if they don't score, would be nice especially in the final push and the playoffs to have a second unit that can cycle and do a bit of damage too.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmah007</b></div><div>Could save some money resign larsson instead of Hamilton. For Hamilton to sign that deal I’m betting a few promises will need to be made like top pp time which completely limits Bouchards biggest strength. Also would have to hand out no trade clause which would be nice to avoid and likely could avoid with larsson. I’m really high on resigning him.
Hyman I love the signing excellent choice.
Getzlaf is a very interesting option very very open to that idea but want to see Mcloed down the stretch before commenting on if it’s a good idea or not might not be needed however love the idea of flexibility it provides the entire roster can move up to second line allowing Leon and mcdavid shifts together. Overall I really like this just not into the Hamilton idea</div></div>
I do agree and would like to see Bouchard get more PP time as well, I think this gives you the flexibility to truly have two PP units though and with that strength even run two d on your first or second units to split up your forwards evenly, especially if Klefbom can be healthy as it gives you two strong RHD and two strong LHD on the PP possibilities. I like McLeod as a 3C as well but Getzlaf would give you that maturity and experience as well as size and grit, both could possibly move up and down the lineup with injury too.

Very true and I would imagine they do try to re sign Bennet but I believe that cap space is with Ekblad on the LTIR as well so they don't actually have 14 in space to sign everyone needed.
