Marner would be the best player on your team. He is a top playmaker in the league, a consistent 30 goal scorer, a Selke finalist, and is a winner regardless of how Toronto media paints him. He is far from the issue in TO. The fact people like you view him as this sort of asset to avoid is crazy.

MBN screams riser to me. Seems like a guy who'll find up on the Wings or Caps. I'm super high on Michael Hage, he'd be an excellent Leaf. Maybe the leafs will add another pick via Marner trade...

That's fair, just thought it was an interesting fit based on what they could offer Toronto and also because they can afford him. They have their core locked down for the foreseeable future, so there won't be many surprised
I guess you could list Seattle as a suitor instead

Toronto Maple Leafs signed Nikita Grebyonkin (3 Years / $875,000 AAV)
Let's go! Grebyonkin is (in my opinion) the Leafs best prospect. This kid does it all. He was super successful in the KHL despite having an ever-changing role, and constantly looked incredible. Greb is a warrior and a KHL champion.
Such a good prospect and a complete steal for the Leafs in the later stages of the draft. I cannot wait to see him in North America, he is going to turn a lot of heads. Remember the name

2023-2024 NHL Discussion Thread #5: The Final Stretch
There's a widespread belief that the Leafs will look to trade Mitch Marner if they lose in the 1st round again. This would be one of the biggest trades of the cap era, so where do you guys think Marner will wind up?
I think New Jersey makes sense, they have a surplus of very elite defensive prospects that will be enticing to Toronto (Casey 👀), and also some good young players like Mercer. They also have the 10th overall pick which will likely be a defenseman, which is of no use to NJD. Wonder if that is in play.
Nashville also makes sense to me, I could see something revolving around Tomasino + Askarov being a solid base.
Utah could also make a lot of sense, they have so many picks and prospects while also having a desire to compete.
It'll be an interesting offseason

It's not like he's going to be relied on as 2C for the rest of his tenure in Toronto. He would be a very good 3C or even 2LW. Not sure why we are in such a big rush to move on from a great leader and a key player.

If we trade Mitch Marner, I think getting Seamus Casey, Dawson Mercer, and the 10th overall pick would make me semi content. Could get a pretty elite defender at that point in the draft depending on how things go, or another uber elite winger. Casey would be a great pickup for us also.
That being said, he won't be dealt

OFC it all depends on mentality and where the team is at. Contracts at his age vary wildly (see Pavs for example)</div></div>
Wouldn't be shocked, but he already took a paycut to come to Toronto to begin with. Hoping that's the trend we see going forward as well 🤞

Totally agree. I'm not in the trade Marner camp, just trying to see what kind of avenues the Leafs could go down if push comes to shove

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Big difference between Eichel and Marner. Marner has just one full season before UFA. Eichel had 4.5 seasons and five playoffs before his contract expires. Vegas thought they were Cup contenders when they obtained Eichel. Jersey....not so much.</div></div>
The Devils would be a contender if they weren't plagued with injuries and given 2 terrible coaches. Marner makes them a huge threat in the east. Also a stipulation in the trade would be an extension in place for Marner to give the Devils some clarity.

Did you happen to miss the part where I said there would be an extension agreed upon prior to the trade to ensure Marner isn't a pending UFA? You will never find another player like Marner to become available via trade, selling high on youngsters who have no real role in NJ is the best course of action.
If you don't like it, Toronto would be more than happy to keep Mitch.

Would you say this about Matthews, who has similar success in the post season? It's unfair to judge Marners post season play in a vacuum, because every single Toronto player disappears in the post season. These are pro athletes we are talking about, it's not like they just phone it in when the regular season is done. The issue in Toronto is behind the bench, not on the ice.

Exploring a Marner Trade to Get a Cup in NJ
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>NJD passes on the idea of paying Mitch Marner 13 million dollars a year or paying that ridiculous price</div></div>
Marner replaces Mercers spot in the lineup (huge upgrade), Casey really has no spot on this team with the rightside consisting of 3 star NHLers who all have term on their contracts, and the 13th overall selection won't get the Devils someone nearly as needle pushing as Marner.
13m may be a bit on the higher side in terms of estimates, but NJD really shouldn't have any issue facilitating a Marner extension. The cap ceiling will rise significantly when that extension begins, and it will really only be a 3 - 4m raise above what he's making now.
I know Marner has a bit of a negative presence in the media right now, but don't get it twisted. Marner is among the leagues best wingers and would instantly be one of this teams biggest and most dangerous offensive weapons while also being a big time factor on the PK. He transforms this team into a strong contender. Not sure what there is to hate here

You're giving Berube way too much credit. STL won the Cup on a miracle run. Huge PDO bender. They weren't some dominant team. And since then they've had about as much playoff success as the Leafs and even missed out last year. Got himself fired this season.</div></div>

The silver lining with this early playoff exit is that we still have our 1st round pick and have the potential to walk away from the draft with a pretty good defenseman/center
