Leafs had their version of Alexey in Curtis Douglas & traded him for Timmins. I don’t hate the thought of the Leafs picking up Alexey… I don’t think they would see the value of trading their best D prospect & their 2nd pick in the draft for him. Maybe Mike Koster & a 5th rounder …. Maybe.

Mitch has to agree to any trade. He won’t. By firing Kyle Dubas, Brendon Shanahan stopped any chance the Leafs had to trade Marner. It’s Brendon’s team, we just finance it. It’s Brendon’s team, Sheldon just apologizes for them… Brendon makes sure of that.

Point being that in the NHL it is, often, who you know that get you the job. Not what you have done.

What are people expecting for the playoff roster
Scott has been recovering from injury all year, he won’t get a look.
Woll posted a .880% he shouldn’t get a look.
Johnsson shouldn’t be cleared to skate/hockey related activities until mid - August.
Mikheyev probably will be eased in, dude has to learn how to use that hand again.
Robertson will defiantly given every opportunity to succeed/fail. His performance, & management’s confidence in his ability to file a role next season, is a key factor in the roster construction for next year & probably the year after.

Trade-a-thon of COVID cap clearing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jdfitz77</b></div><div>Well, there’s MANY “big differences” between the 2
While both are coming off what can be considered down seasons....
1- Murray has won a Cup, and played outstanding in another playoffs. Andersen hasn’t even won a series since he was with the Ducks, when he was 25. Which leads me to the next difference
2- Andersen is 5 years older than Murray. So while it’s reasonable to think both could bounce back, it’s entirely possible Andersen is starting his decline.
Either way, a 26 year old goalie is worth more than a 31year old
3- Murray is an RFA, so if a team believes in him, they can sign him to a long term deal, and relatively cheaply bc of this past “down season”
Idk that a team could even possibly consider Anderson a reasonable long term answer. He’s more of a hope he can get back to form for the last year of his deal, but then we’re still looking to get a younger “franchise” goalie even if he does type.
It just doesn’t seem even remotely likely that anyone would give up anything too significant for him.
Certainly not a 1st like the other guy here is suggesting.
That’s laughable even if he does have a great playoffs.
I think your trade of a decent pick or 2 & a decent prospect is the best u can hope for. And u might not even get that.
There’s a bunch of decent goalies that look available this offseason, so teams could just go that route for free instead</div></div>
Meant the two trades. Point taken. I don’t put a lot of stock in “he won the cup” if he displayed continued greatness, would love to have him cup or no cup. If he show inconsistency & propensity to get hurt, I get less excited the closer he gets to 30.
FA goalies market is sketch, Bob was supposed to be a great catch for FLA.... now not so much. Lehner is my fav FA goalie. I doubt he signs for less than 5 million.
I targeted Murray, cause I was reading Penguins fan blog posts about his next deal being sub-5 million.
If I was Andersson, there is no way I sign a team friendly deal. Dude only has a couple more earning years left.

Trade-a-thon of COVID cap clearing
Leafs whole plan is to keep the high skill core together, you can’t do that & spend more than 9% of the cap on goal. Anderson will get a raise after next year, or have another sub-par season. Either way Leafs would move on from him.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SammyT_51</b></div><div>We dont need to move him. Thats the whole point. There is no reason to move him. He is our starting goalie and top-10 goalie in the league. Other team wants him so they would have to pay a good price to get him. Why exactly would Leafs want trade him?</div></div>

Too-10 Goalie? coming off a .909%. With one year left, a documented injury history & continual consistency problems. I would say Chicago is taking some risk here.
But I would like take A.Nylander & Entwistle if that makes you happy. But, there is no way Chicago fans would kill that one.

NBA is cancelled, will the NHL too?
US has 4.25% of the world’s total population.
US has had 28.5% of the total death attributed to COVID.
If you don’t trust the numbers from China or India... ok, fine.
US has 10 x the population of Canada. Similar demographics & cultures. Canadians have a longer life expectancy, but that should work against them (more old people) for COVID.
Now assuming that the two countries would have similar expose rates, Canada’s deaths attributed to COVID should be 10% of the US’s.
The US has 100,000 deaths. Canada has had 7,000.
Has Canada under reported by 30%. Or, has the US (the riches & most powerful country on the plant, just ask them) been shockingly terrible at managing this pandemic?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jesus</b></div><div>I mean I am alive am I not? Who do you want traded most
Would rather trade:
1. Kapanen. I don’t think his value is going to get much higher (to other teams) he is under contract @ a decent # for a few more years. But, if they wait too long then other teams can shift focus/he can feminist his own value with inconsistent play.
2. Engvall. Too much money for a meh, player. I know they didn’t know the season was going to be halted & revenue would dry up. This the cap would stagnate. But, this was an unforced error. Now, some believe he wouldn’t clear waivers... great that means he has value. Trade him.
3. Bracco. Stuck behind one great similar player (in terms of style of play ,Marner). Bad luck for him, I don’t feel that he has the maturity yet to change his game to better his chances at a NHL spot. He may just need a change of scenery.
4. Johnsson. Like him when he is healthy. Just a bit annoying to the opposition & has the skill to play with good - great players. But, so does Soup, Kerfoot & Hyman. I would rather hold on to the other three, give opportunities to other players & have a better chance at a solid D-corps. Then run back with Johnsson on one of the top three lines.
A) Soup is better on the defencive side of the game & most likely cheaper.
B) Kerfoot is more versatile (LW & C) plays a similar role, granted less annoying to opponents. But, is a very smart hockey player (an oxymoron to some, I know).
C) Hyman....nuff said, although he may be in for a BIG pay day soon.

Opinions on Malgin
Non-tender Malgin, I would prefer singing Brazeau or Conrad to an ELC than have Malgin.
Currently teams con only have 50 pro contracts, Malgin does not need to be one with the Leafs.
Malgin is most likely a AAAA player. Too good for AHL, but only really suitable to specific NHL situations like a rebuilding team or PP specialist on the 2nd unit (SPEZZA role from 2019/2020)

He would be bored in the OHL, I don’t think the Leafs want to chance him stagnating in the OHL. I feel as though they are going to have him make the team (unless he ****s the bed) but have him earn his ice time & sit him in the press box 3/4 times a month.
He will be in a pro environment that can not be replicated while playing in the OHL.

The US has proved completely incapable of responding to the on-going threat to public health, most teams are in the US, it would only make sense if they do.
