Cannot believe we got him in the 5th round
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoreHitzSeider</b></div><div>Oh my bad. So you wanted me to say he's Mario Lemieux? It's essentially what you're saying. Sorry I won't say that.</div></div>
I was just making you aware of his background because the context of his development is important to understand when evaluating Roy. I never made any future projections on him besides saying he's a superstar prospect right now.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>I agree he is overachieving. I think he will be a middle 6 player who can also take some PP minutes in the NHL. Overachieving is more fun than underacheiving!</div></div>
I think at this point in time, that would be his floor, given the way he's shown to be an adaptable smart player I can't really picture him not being anything less than this.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoreHitzSeider</b></div><div>I hope the kid pans out. I like to see low round picks make it to the NHL and become good players. I just remember being so excited about Mantha and then realizing why he dropped in the draft. He's a talented but lazy Floater with no work ethic.
Zadina was rated 3rd going into his draft and put up great numbers in the Q. It was Fools Gold. He was drafted to score goals and he doesn't score any goals.
The good thing is that Roy doesn't have a work ethic problem and seems to be overachieving. He didn't look out of place at the WJC.</div></div>
He actually had a work ethic problem in his draft year, he was 20lbs overweight! That's why he went in the 5th round. Formerly, he went 1st overall in the QMJHL entry draft! Just a little fun fact. So the talent was never in question with Roy.
That being said, he completely changed his character, got on a diet and changed the way he plays hockey and has turned himself into a superstar 2 way winger prospect.
Lastly, you said he "didn't look out of place" at the WJC, he was one of Canada's top 3 players voted by the team, so I that's an understatement lol.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>Everyone is taking it for granted that Mailloux makes the NHL. A lot of amateur scouts who follow the Habs say he struggles with making smart decisions when put under pressure. He's loaded with skill but does not have great "hockey sense". The last 1st round pick defensemen we had who scored in bunches in junior who was described that way: Nate The Gr8 (Beaulieu).
Mailloux still has a lot of time to figure this out and I hope he can, but the ability to score from the blue line does not trump being able to read and react at NHL speed.</div></div>
yeah I mean it's no guarantee he makes it but most of these "amateur scouts" have their opinions skewed by what happened in Mailloux's past, which was horrible, but he's been to therapy and has changed as a person since then. I've seen enough of him to know that he's got all the tools to be a top 4 dman in the NHL, he'll just need to learn to dump it off the glass once in a while (much easier to teach than to tell a kid to learn how to score).

I think if you get him at 8 mil, yes. Because he's versatile, can play centre or wing, 6'4, plays hard, and is a goal scorer / net front presence. He's worth 8 mil or under for sure, but if were talking 8.5-9 then it would maybe be time to reconsider.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Just_A_Guess</b></div><div>I don't think it's an "if" or "eventually" I think it's closer to the Sandin move where Harris is good/great but ends up being the odd man out with the talent that is available at his position within the organization. I get that he's becoming a fan favourite but Lord Stanley is also a fan favourite and we're stacked up on the left (whether he plays RD or not isn't my point, he's still a lefty). Personally I think it's a decent deal for both sides but I can see your point I suppose, maybe we target a different RD then but either way I'd be moving him for a RD (ie one of the budding RD prospects/young RD in LA).</div></div>
Hopefully Hughes learned from Dubas mistakes of trading Sandin at a discounted price. I actually don't think he'll be an odd man out thought, hes really good and I think hes good enough to play RD as a bottom pair down the line. This is my future top 6:
Guhle - Barron
Hutson - Mailloux
Xhekaj - Harris
As of right now, I don't see Engstrom, Struble or Trudeau achieving the same level as Harris (Engstrom is the most likely)
This would be after Matheson and Savard contracts are both expired / traded cause the young guys are ready.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>I just think playing a RHC with 2 LWs doesn't product the results as one guy needs to turn his body out of natural attacking position to pass to the center ice or to shoot. But I'm really not an expert here, just thinking common sense. If you want PLD at wing, which is fine IMO, play him on the left.</div></div>
its not that big of a deal. I just don't think think dubois plays centre in MTL unless management changes their mind and decide they no longer see DACH as a centre. (which they've been saying all year they see him at centre and based off what I've seen of him hes looking like he could be the real deal down the middle in 1-2 years time.)

Harris is becoming a fan favourite in MTL and has played on the right side a lot this season. Additionally, Spence doesnt really fit in MTL and would never get power play time so he doesn't really fill any needs. If Harris gets moved eventually it will most likely be for an established shutdown dman or for a forward.

PLD as RW makes very little sense however. I think Dach centering Caufield & Suzuki or Suzuki centering Caufield & Dach makes sense and then PLD with his buddy Anderson and Slaf makes sense.</div></div>
I think dach will be the better centre down the road between Dach and Dubois, and you're not moving Suzuki off centre. So Dubois plays wing as he's done a lot of fun Winnipeg.

all in all you did pretty good here, but I wouldn't add Mailloux to that Dvorak trade considering he doesn't hold much trade value but has top 4 upside.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>I don't mean to burst your bubble... but you have to know that Montreal (with Dubois) have no chance at being close to the wild card spot next year. If you want to argue the year after that (only if Matthews leaves TO, Tampa implodes and Boston is too old to compete), then you have a chance and even then, it'll be a dog fight to the very end...
If I were Hughes, I would be shipping off Suzuki or Caufield (prob Suzuki considering he is older), Dach, Allen, Matheson and Savard for their values at draft day and try to compete in 2026-27 when all of these teams have imploded (maybe not But and Ott but they will be on their last hurrah). When trading the players above, teams with bad GMs (EDM, PITS, TBL, PHI etc.) would be GMs that I would be calling first to start the price high.</div></div>

Washington isn't even close to a wild card team yet, Florida, Tampa, Toronto. Plus Buffalo, Ottawa and Detroit are all getting much better. East is going to be tough again with a lot of up and coming young team ready to make their push.</div></div>
I mean on paper I could see this roster being competitive with all those "up and coming young teams" especially with the play of Matheson who's been lights out as on the top pair along with all the additions and depth this team has.

Guhle, Barron and Harris do not play like 20 year olds... They've all been playing like top 4 d this season.
Allen / Monteambeault has been surprisingly good this year in terms of GSAx (both between top 10 and 20) so take that as you wish.. But I can agree that that could be our weak point next season.

Trying to be the next oilers? This habs roster is the compelte opposite... No superstar power, just crazy depth.
Ok I'll name the defense for you:
LD: Matheson, Guhle, Hutson, Harris, Xhekaj
RD: Savard, Barron, Mailloux, Kovachechic
Guhle and Harris have played both sides this season.
The D core doesnt need anymore peices.
We also dont have an overpaid 9.5 million dman like the oilers.
