Flames think about it, but will probably get a similar offer from the Leafs and get a younger player like Timmins rather than Ceci

Honestly, that's a bit more than I expect Tanev to return.
What about Lundell and McAllister instead? You'll want to hold onto Mahura for playoff depth, and then you can hold onto some picks still too.

I think this is why we see more teams granting permission to other teams to speak to players about possible extensions prior to a trade. This way they know before.

Um ok? I'm happy we got Kuz, his personality is amazing, but it's not hard to see a situation where Conroy tried to get Mikheyev instead as he's more of an all around player at a lower cap hit.

Canucks are not trading Lekkerimaki to Pitt for Crosby (that's a no-no).</div></div>
I could see a situation where we wanted Mikheyev instead of Kuzmenko in the Lindholm deal

I haven't seen tis anywhere.
I feel like 2 of 1st in '26, Gauthier or Howard makes sense, but not the additional 2nd and prospect, unless Calgary is taking Connor Sheary's contract

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>Ok what? The reported asking price is a second round pick. How is taking a good defenseman on a decent contract out helping value? Veleno is having a great season and wouldn't be on the table anyways.</div></div>The asking price is a 1st by all reports and it's also been reported they've been offered a 2nd plus a prospect from Vancouver.
Clearly we disagree on the value of Maatta, to me he's a straight up cap dump, he hasn't been "good" for some time. Even if he has bounced back this year, he's not a piece that turns the crank for Calgary and would just clog up the left side where we'd like space for a prospect next season. His value is negligible at best.
Now on to Veleno and is "great season"... great for him maybe, but a 24 year old at less than a half point a game is not having a great season. His value is not that high, probably somewhere between a 2nd and a 3rd.
So again, this is more quantity than quality, I'd rather try for that first round pick and if we can get it from the right team, it could even fall in the 22-26 range.

I think the Flames pass on this. Take Maatta out and it's probably close, but I think teh Flames will still be looking for more quality than quantity

0 chance you get Hanifin for that. Not only would we have to wait 2 years for the first, but all we get in additional is a 3rd, a meh prospect and a couple 7th round picks?
If we're staring with a 1st in 2026, then you best be adding Howard or Gauthier because we need quality if we're waiting 3 drafts to get a 1st.

big stride
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wqrrior</b></div><div>I'll note that I don't believe Mangiapane is worth all that much. With retention he's worth more. Still, the winger market is limited. You might argue to just remove him from the trade unless he gets the value you want, and since you won't probably get the value you want for him, I'm fine to replace him with Kuz in this build.
While I really don't think Ras even gets moved, I think its a little bit ludicrous to say that this package wouldn't get Andersson if CGY is truly shopping him. Berggren is really good right now nevermind his upside, the other prospect is a 2nd rounder, and there are high picks. I used Chychrun as my comparable. I think sometimes some Flames fans don't have on-earth value expectations of value for players they like.</div></div>
You're kidding right?
Andersson is a young top pair RHD, that has no really weak elements to his game, oh and he's signed to a sweetheart of a contract.
Even if you take Mangiapane out, that return is complete and utter garbage for Andersson. A 1st, 2nd and 2 meh prospects wouldn't get this done, let alone us taking your dog **** contracts. You have the Flames eating 7.65 million next year and an additional 3.4 the following year. If we're eating that **** sandwich, add 2 more 1sts. and then up the offer with better prospects. START with Danielson or Kasper and maybe you won't get hung up on.

Tanev
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>He is 34 and playing #4 minutes on a team outside of the playoffs. (granted Weegar, Andersson and Hanifin are all studs). I think he is a #4 at this point. A good one though.</div></div>
Yes, he s playing #4 minutes and since he's a defensive player he'll never garner top 2 minutes on any team since he'll never see PP time. The Flames not being in a playoff spot is pretty irrelevant since their big issue is goals for.
At ES it's actually ridiculous how few GA he's been on the ice for, so far this year it is a mere 38 goals against. Those studs in Andersson, Hanifin and Weegar, all have been on the ice for 50-55ga at ES. That is 0.042 GA/ES Min, vs 0.048 GA/ES Min for Weegar who is the best of the other 3... that is a difference of over 1/3 of a goal every 60 minutes.
Even more importantly, Tanev makes everyone he plays with better. He's such a steady stay-at-home force that it allows anyone he's with to play their game, if you land him you will see the best Morgan Reilly you've ever seen.

But Tanev would still work!</div></div>Honestly, I would say Tanev is still a #2 or 3. He hasn't lost anything, still plays hard minutes, still skates well (like until he was a Flame, I had no idea how well he skated); he has also been much healthier with Calgary than Vancouver.

Now that Brodie + Lily are doing very well together and Benoit + McCabe are doing well, I want to get a proper partner for Rielly. I like Schenn but he is a #7 dman. We need a true top 4 dman for Rielly. <strong>Tanev will do under these circumstances</strong>. Adam Larsson would be my #1 target though!
And thanks :)</div></div>About the bolded, I may be misinterpreting what you intended to say, but are you suggesting Tanev wouldn't normally be a top 4 defenseman? I feel like I probably am misinterpreting it, but I got to defend him lol

Maybe. It's not an egregious offer by any means and could very well be what we see.
Obviously it depends what other teams offer, but I would definitely wouldn't hang up or anything.
