Honestly seems reasonable for both sides. A lot of Leafs fans are shaky about giving up the 1st for Tanev but for me we need to win now. Well done.

Maybe. It's not an egregious offer by any means and could very well be what we see.
Obviously it depends what other teams offer, but I would definitely wouldn't hang up or anything.

I would only do it if we got a 3rd back and a reasonable extension in place with Tanev.

Now that Brodie + Lily are doing very well together and Benoit + McCabe are doing well, I want to get a proper partner for Rielly. I like Schenn but he is a #7 dman. We need a true top 4 dman for Rielly. Tanev will do under these circumstances. Adam Larsson would be my #1 target though!

And thanks smile

About the bolded, I may be misinterpreting what you intended to say, but are you suggesting Tanev wouldn't normally be a top 4 defenseman? I feel like I probably am misinterpreting it, but I got to defend him lol

I completely agree, Tanev would complement Rielly and Brodie dropping down in minutes will help him out tremendously with his down year. I don’t know about Larsson though, he’s a big physical defenseman but his analytics have shown he’s had a rough go these past few years. If he turns it around with us that’d be amazing.

Tanev is a #4 dman for sure. He would be a good add. I would much prefer a #2 or #3 dman though. Leafs need a true #2 dman. But Tanev would still work!

Honestly, I would say Tanev is still a #2 or 3. He hasn't lost anything, still plays hard minutes, still skates well (like until he was a Flame, I had no idea how well he skated); he has also been much healthier with Calgary than Vancouver.

He is 34 and playing #4 minutes on a team outside of the playoffs. (granted Weegar, Andersson and Hanifin are all studs). I think he is a #4 at this point. A good one though.

Yes, he s playing #4 minutes and since he's a defensive player he'll never garner top 2 minutes on any team since he'll never see PP time. The Flames not being in a playoff spot is pretty irrelevant since their big issue is goals for.

At ES it's actually ridiculous how few GA he's been on the ice for, so far this year it is a mere 38 goals against. Those studs in Andersson, Hanifin and Weegar, all have been on the ice for 50-55ga at ES. That is 0.042 GA/ES Min, vs 0.048 GA/ES Min for Weegar who is the best of the other 3... that is a difference of over 1/3 of a goal every 60 minutes.

Even more importantly, Tanev makes everyone he plays with better. He's such a steady stay-at-home force that it allows anyone he's with to play their game, if you land him you will see the best Morgan Reilly you've ever seen.
