The Slafkovsky extension conversation
I don't like thinking that way but nowadays you can almost and I say almost here, see who's a team player and who's not by their contract. If a player take a "team friendly" 8 years to be there and win, I see him as a team player. On the other side, when a player takes a bridge deal to maximise his earnings, I don't think it's in the best interest of the team. I'm not saying ALL players that take bridge deals are selfish (maybe it's because of injuries of stuff like this), but if in this case you see your captain and your little dwarf friend signing for 8 years each at an AAV less than 8M, I don't see why you don't follow the lead and continu the way it is right now. Slaf looks like he'll be one heck of a player and for the 2nd half as you said, was point per game. I sure hope he takes the 8 years 7.85 AAV and develop in the big all-star powerforward that we want

Who does MTL pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lafleur10</b></div><div>For that first pick I think it'll go Lindstrom/Demidov->Catton->Iginla, depends who's available at 5,6,7. For the second it'll probably be traded in a similar move to Dach/Newhook, if not I'd take a look at Henry Mews, Beckett Sennecke, Ryder Ritchie, or even Cole Hutson. Masse would be a good pick there too. For the 2nd-3rd round picks I'd be shocked to see if Montreal doesnt take a long look at Aatos Koivu.</div></div>
I'm thinking that if Demidov is available, they'll take him before Lindstrom. but I'd be very surprised if he's still there at #5.
I do hope they have a go at #1, but in all reality, hope they still can get Lindstrom at the time of their pick.

I'm not sure if you just put him at the end because he is a goalie, but I would imagine Carter George is taken off the board well before the 7th round. Probably a 3rd round maybe late 2nd goalie.

last thing you want to do is get the same player you guys wanted so badly last year, because so much has changed!
cant say its not the wrong move to avoid him, it definitely is, its just funny how quickly opinions change.

? Montreal’s not passing on Catton, some of the RD’s, even Tij would be better than massively reaching on Boisvert

MTL aren't that crazy... Slaf was ranked 2 (and even 1) by draft day, so that's max a 1 spot reach. Reinbacher was ranked 8ish (I had him 6) went 5th, so that's a 3-spot reach. They aren't going too crazy with these picks

Fair Trade or Not
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lafleur10</b></div><div>It does clear up immediate cap and minimise the risk you lose him in free agency so I agree on that point. Yeah Montreal's 5th Overall (Pre Lottery) would probably bring the value up to make it worth it.</div></div>
Obviously with protection in case MTL wins the lottery (I don't see it as fair if MTL does trade the pick before that lottery and Toronto ends up winning it)...

Fair Trade or Not
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lafleur10</b></div><div>Not fair from Toronto's perspective. Reinbacher and the 1st are the big pieces from the trade, Reinbacher is going to be good but is still just a prospect for now, and even without him that first is *Hopefully* going to be around 12th-16th overall, not great value back for Marner. Other than that a solid bottom 4D and two decent B prospects don't bring the value close enough for Marner.</div></div>
I would at least consider this from a TO perspective... Maybe the 24 1st instead of the 26 one (top 2 protected in case MTL wins the lottery, then becomes an unprotected 25 1st...), Reinbacher's a steady RHD that the Leafs could use, and it helps their prospect pool...
Farrell's a solid prospect, Harris could be flipped and Kidney's a nice long shot...
Allows TO to sign Bert and Domi and have 4+ mill in remaining cap space remaining from the Marner contract...
I can see the logic behind the trade

Montreal has more value in Reinbacher, that pick in the top 5-7 range, and whatever the return for Harris will be WHEN we trade him, all of those pieces combined are not worth Power imo.</div></div> <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsCanucks</b></div><div>No</div></div> <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>Reinbacher looking good in Laval. Power, Guhle, Matheson, Hutson, Xhekaj, Struble, Engstrom, Trudeau... That's too many LHD.</div></div> Power has a huge ceiling, but this is too much, if offered Buffalo should make the trade.
Maybe that why other Sabre fans have not commented.

2024
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lafleur10</b></div><div>I think for Michkov it came down to a personality thing. Some footage came out post draft that Habs fans speculate was discussing Michkov, so there were scouts in the room rooting for him. But Hughes has been trying to build an amazing culture in Montreal, to the point that he would say no to drafting a prospect based on that condition. If Demidov doesn't have the same issues I can see Montreal considering it if he's available when they pick.
In what way has Hughes been short sighted in his drafting? Genuine question as I don't know what pick you are referring to.</div></div>
i guess if its an attitude thing it can make sense. Michkov in my book is skill wise better than any prospect in this draft. But maybe he really likes demidov, but michkov could be a franchise winger.
Short sigthed means thats he is mostly adressing immediate needs when drafting. Not a bad things in itself, but thats sort of what he did in the past 2 draft and his interviews sort of show it.
He drafted slaf to adress size in a heavy dman draft year. Drafted a Rd in a heavy foward year and this year will probably draft a foward while the best prospect available will probably be dman.
im not bashing, i really hope all those moves pays off!

Mtl trading up for demidov after passion on michkov would be such a ridiculous thing. ( in my opinion)
But hughes has been a very short sighted GMs when in comes to drafting, so you never know!
not saying im against it, would judt be so weird.
