Without an extension in place, I'm not interested in Marner at all. Whatever the cost is will be too much. I wouldn't make this deal to be honest.

Reichel Contract
I mean he definitely hasn't earned the 2.1M that you have here. We have all the cap space so it doesn't really matter, but just going based on what he's proven to be worth i'd say 1 year 950k. Gives him the chance to proves he's a full time contributing NHL'er.

Reichel Contract
I don't see the franchise mode occurring. I don't think either side really wants that. You could have. Jesperi Kotkaniemi situation.
I think what you have above is the most likely. Give him some piece of mind. That's life changing money for anyone normal. He's at the big club permanently too. I'm all for it.

What was the rush to sign him long-term???? Sorry but this guy is a 3rd pairing dman. Hate the risk to this.</div></div>

Woah this was a surprise to me, but a very good one! Very happy for him and the Hawks. He's a #1 LD in the NHL today after what was essentially his rookie year and that's extremely hard to find for 6 years $4.6M.

Time to Go - Kevy
Skinner likely isn't waiving for Chicago with Buffalo so close to making the playoffs. And retaining $8.8m in real money doesn't seem like something Pegula would approve. But if those two things happened, the Hawks might consider this.

2024 opening night
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Was saying that from the perspective of being an RFA, a hometown boy, and the Hawks getting extremely lucky on a bridge deal as a basement number. But market value is a different thing, $3M would be 100% underpaid on a bridge and even more underpaid as a factor into a long term deal thus taking the ability away for Vlasic to really cash in at the age of 24 or 25.</div></div>
How about this.
Contract structure:
Year 1: $5M
Year 2: $5M
Year 3: $5M
Year 4: $5.5M
Year 5: $6.5M
Year 6: $7M
Year 7: $8M
Year 8: $8M
This would put him at a $6.25M cap hit/aav for 8 years, more manageable cap hit, paying him fair market, and locks him up long term. Something like this could work.

2024 opening night
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Highly doubt Vlasic would sign an 8 year deal at $5.2M. Remember, as a 22 year rookie against the toughest assignments, he's ranked top 3 defensive players in the defensive zone. If Vlasic were never to improve from this season, unlikely given his age and the improvement from a year ago, he'd be worth $6M minimum to $8M on a 8 year deal. He and his agent are not only wouldn't take a penny less, they will bet on him improving and thus almost certainly don't want a 8 year deal unless it's around $8M which the Hawks probably wouldn't do. For that reason, he's likely a 3 year bridge and going to land anywhere from $3M to $5M on a 3 year bridge deal is my guess. If I'm Chicago though, I'd push to lock him up between $6M and $7M on a 8 year deal as that will look like a bargain in a few years with Vlasic almost certainly improving and the cap continuing to rise. We could be looking at the best shutdown defender in the league in a couple years, and I'd argue if he had played 6 less games last season in the NHL and could qualify for the Calder, he'd be in the conversation right behind Bedard and Faber with a pretty good argument.</div></div>
I disagree with this. Shutdown dmen don't make $8M. If he signed at $5.2M for 8 years, he would be overpaid for the first 2 to 4 years of the contract. Which means overall, he will have made more money in total than he would have on a bridge plus his contract after the bridge deal. At his peak, as a shutdown defenseman, $5.2M should be right in line with market value. The only way he gets $8M or more is if he adds a ton of offense to his game. Which is possible, but, again, the overpayment in the first few years of the contract should be able to make up for that discrepancy, and if they structure the contract properly and backload the deal, he will be making that much or close enough to it in the back half of the contract, just at a lower AAV, which helps the team.
Contract structure:
@ a $5.18M AAV x 8 years
Actual salary:
Year 1: $3M
Year 2: $3M
Year 3: $3M
Year 4: $4.5M
Year 5: $5.5M
Year 6: $6.5M
Year 7: $8M
Year 8: $8M

Tavares would never waive his NMC, the only way he does is if they put a gun to his head. Now as an Islander fan Tavares being traded for FC/as a cap dump would be amazing

If you're just drafting ceiling then Parekh's is higher than Levshunov. I do think both Lindstrom and Demidov have higher ceilings than Lev, with also higher floors.

Demidov should be on the board at #3 as Anaheim likely takes Leshevnov at #2. I also think the Hawks take Lindstrom over Leshevnov even if they fall to #3 and Demidov does go #2.

Lee is honestly still good. Key word good, and good doesn't merit a 7 million contract. Great captain too a nd it fits Chicago plan of surrounding Bedard with leaders and former MVPs like Folingo, Perry and Hall, Lee would fit right in

Next season
You know what, sure
The pick is not only next year, but can go as far down as 2027. a 3rd round pick will most likely not even make the show. Lee does have value but the islanders would need to either retain or take back at least 2 million for him not to be a cap dump imo
And with a core of Romanov, Horvat, Sorokin, Barzal, and Dobson even if the pick goes to 2027 I put good money they can be a playoff team by that point

A kurashev trade from my perspecitve
Excellent idea and post, KFC. Certainly helps to get a read on Kurashev's value. Thanks for doing this. Takes two to tango, for sure!
Bottom line, IMO... Now (after this season) is the time to get the most value for him in trade, IF there's compelling value in return. Maybe it's there; maybe not. He's a useful, versatile, cost-controlled, relatively young player probably more valuable to a contending team up against the cap struggling to round out their roster. What that translates to in trade we may (or may not if it doesn't happen) know soon.
Cheers
