I think you misunderstood my post. You're saying that the comp to acquire Hanfin (a left-handed dmen) is the same as the cost to acquire Lindholm (a centerman). The reality is that centers go for a premium, especially 1st line centers. If CGY can get the same deal for Hanifin that they got for Lindholm then they 100% are taking someone to the cleaners.
As for the rest of your post. Lohrei was top 10 in NCAA scoring among d-men last season and played all-situations. He played between the AHL (nearly a PGP player) & NHL this season. He's a 6'4 smooth skating d-man that's a converted forward, but still decent defensively. Both guys are projected to be top 4 d-men if they hit their ceiling.

Continuing the Sale Process
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MyTeamsSuck</b></div><div>Hanifin is worth more than that. Look at the Lindy trade and lower the price by a fourth round pick. Lohrei a first and another prospect would get it done. If Lohrei is too much, replace him with Beecher and a third.</div></div>
What is the better deal?
Grz, Beecher, a 2025 first and a 2025 third
Or
Grz, Lohrei, and a 2026 second rounder
I’d personally take the second deal if choosing between the two. The question is what another team would offer comparatively with him being a rental with some strong rumors about a desired free agent destination which has money, need, a GM that is known to covet him, and the tie of the hometown team where he is close to his family.
I think sometimes as fans in this situation, we overvalue first round and second round picks compared to prospects. Doing well at the AHL or NHL level in terms of showing a usable skill set kills a significant percentage of prospect dreams
I’d probably ask for a secondary prospect with upside that fills a position of need if were Calgary. Could easily see them target an Oscar Jelvik type who is playing really well at BC

If Grz is going to Calgary, there will not be full retention. I’m wondering if Calgary retains at all. I could see like 775k in retention at most (one roster slot)

Backlund just resigned and has a NMC i don't know that he wants to be on the move so probably blocks the trade. I think the Bs seriously consider that for Hanifin but maybe tweak the value of the pick and drop the retention.

Canucks are stealing Guenztel in this deal but sure.
Malkin trade is alright I guess.
Carter has no trade value so if you get a 7th for him you are lucky

Kings are going to have to send down and waive like 2 or 3 of their young players (JAD Kaliyev and ****emo) just to make room for Arvidsson coming back in the next couple of weeks. Kings cant afford to take another 4m in cap.

Adding 2 depth pieces vs adding 2 guys that were power play guys… very different. This is more comparable to adding Copp and Vatrano. Kane was extremely injured and was a powerplay guy. Senko was decent too but what kill them in the playoffs was actually the coach changing the powerplay completely. Then somehow managed to be goalied by a hot streak from the kid. NJ was by far the faster team but we dominated in every other way except for their G stood on his head. Don’t think he has even played a game as good as he did in playoffs since

What would be the cost
I would be shocked if LAK considered trading Byfield— but NSH would be all over that if it was ever offered. Clarke would be a very nice pickup for NSH though, so I’d still have interest with him included.

I'd rather swap Kuzmenko for Hoglander and then raty for Podkolzin. Agree with you on Kuzmenko, not an attractive piece for the Pens imo, too risky and about to be 28, so to me doesn't fit what they'd be looking for.
Pens will also retain 50% IF they were to trade Guentzel which would make his cap hit $3M.

Just as a counter argument, Kuzmenko is one of the few players you could get back in a Guentzal deal that actually has a chance at replacing a lot of Guentzal's production which could be important for Pittsburgh if they trade Guentzal while still looking to make the playoffs.

Agree that taking on Kuzmenko should cost VAN.
Again i'd just rather he stay there and do 24 1st + Holglander + Pod</div></div>
If the Pens are forced to move Jake, the only teams that will be interested are playoff teams and most do not have $6M free, so regardless they'll have to retain. In situations like that you're not going to really see much of a tax on that.
I do like your final idea though the most, but even with retention I don't think that works cap-wise for VAN, so we'd still likely need to take a body back.

Lindholm and Depth
What would a Lindy contract look like for 5 years? I imagine he wants to make at least $50M in total compensation. Avs absolutely cannot afford to re-sign Lindy unless Landy is LTIRetiring which we won't know until possibly next year.

Montreal using their last retention spot and trading a center (when they already have two done for the season and will likely trade another) for a couple of mid-round picks and an AHLer is a terrible idea for them.

Habs won’t trade Evans. The return would need to be irresistible. Habs have 30 picks in the next 3 draft so unless they received a unrefusable offer they keep him.

I'm not sure what you're implying here. Is it that the players are right up Verbeek's alley? Or that they're just that good? Cause depending on what you mean, I could point you to which reason I think you're wrong.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>batman</b></div><div>you finna get hate on this one mate. ducks fans finna go crazy on you. its fair tho. wouldn't give much more than that. not very thrilled to lose mailloux but would do it.</div></div>
To be perfectly fair, before even getting to the players involved a lot of Ducks fans are gonna have a problem with the why of all this.
I find it odd that so many people's first conclusion is that this must mean Zegras has to go too. The reason the Ducks made the trade was because the group of young forwards the team had in house was lacking. You trade Drysdale because you believe the back end depth can absorb it. If you trade away Zegras you've defeated the purpose of the whole thing, especially if the big piece coming back is a puck moving offensive defenseman.

I doubt we make such a move in season though.</div></div>
Devils cant make Hanafin work Longterm for Money reasons with Mercer getting an extension this year, luke and Holtz the year after, and Nemec in for a monster raise the next. Let alone McLeod getting the contract he deserves if he keeps it up. The cap is going to rise 3-4 mil a year for 3 years and then rise around 1-2 every year after. I'm more than happy to let it ride with Nemec this year since hes been great but there is no world where Hanafin fits under the cap for the next 6-8 years

He's played 60+ games in a season before with above-average numbers... that's being able to handle a starter's load. And a career .908 isn't spectacular but it would work just fine for the Hurricanes considering they only give up 25 shots a game.

Anderson is a cap dump but not as big as Campbell, maybe Bourgault even it out. That leaves a 1st + Foegele for Allen, who's a backupp that is barely worth 2 mil of cap. Big overpay by EDM.
