<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>This wasn't an absolute value, it was a relative comparison. Myers is still a slight positive asset, but his age, not-so-good recent play, and AAV (which is still a factor) aren't helping to boost his value. I'm arguing that a 25-year-old RD on a reasonable contract with term coming off a career year is a better asset than a 33-year-old RD with a higher AAV on the decline. That's not an absurd take. You could flip Myers half-retained at the deadline to a contender for a 3rd round pick in all likelihood.

It's a similar argument with Roslovic. In this case, both are overpaid, are about the same age, and score at strikingly similar rates. But Roslovic plays a more valuable position, and even though it's pretty evident Garland is the better player overall, he makes nearly $1M more for 2 more years than Roslovic. It's more valuable to have an expiring "bad" contract at 3C than a lengthy more expensive contract for similar production at 3RW.

Besides, you sent both to a team whose last two needs are RD and middle-6 winger. You'd get better value sending them elsewhere. The only thing that's "way out of touch" is thinking that CBJ would view this as an even swap that somehow fills positional needs.</div></div>

Thanks for that, finally someone who can be bothered to come up with a reasonable take regarding the Blue Jackets, the only thing I might quibble with is whether or not Peeke's contract is truly reasonable, even if it's more efficient than Tyler Myers at 6M by a good quarter-mile, not a country mile, but a quarter-mile. Of course we know what a low bar that is
