Having 7 straight 50~point seasons and then 1 1.1 PPG season where at one point you were 1.4 PPG (trending down) doesn't make you a 1st line player. He'll fall back to 50 points and become massively overpaid. He's a 2nd line center.

I also think paying Horvat the same as Stamkos, Draisaitl and Zibanejad is a little suspect.</div></div>
oh 100% it's an awful contract. People sh*t on the Miller deal but I'd much rather have him at 8x7 over Bo's deal

Also, the funny thing for the Isles is that Pageau and Cizikas are now their #4 and #5 centres respectively.

Barzal is gonna play on the wing I think

Before he ever played a game for them? This has a massive risk potential. This year is an anomaly compared to prior years in terms of production so if he regresses to his usual output then this is a terrible contract, especially since it runs until he's 36.

This was kinda a lose-lose for the Isles. I love Bo but he's definitely not worth anything close to 8

1st Demko is better than Ned, no argument, but we also have Husso so why pay for Demko when we do not need him?
The 1st round picks make this deal a no go, from the beginning. Then adding Cossa, Kasper and picks, jumps start Canucks rebuild and hurts Wings rebuild. This is not even close.
Would love Horvat but way to rich for Wings at this point of rebuild. Also no need for Demko, so this trade makes zero sense for Wings.

Vancouver Canucks signed Andrei Kuzmenko (2 Years / $5,500,000 AAV)
Think it good for the Canucks, as they keep a productive player. If Kuzmenko continues to play well he will still have good trade value, even at TDL in 2025, if a trade is needed by the Canucks.
The advantage of the Canucks trading this year, is they would get a future young asset and 5.5m to spend for the next two years. I think the Canucks made the right decision.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SevenLeg</b></div><div>Pretty much all trade protection clauses are negotiated to be retroactive, so the 19 teams apply today.</div></div>
there are no retroactive components to any NHL deal- youre talking out your ass. He can be traded to anyone under his current deal - the only one enforceable. Now they could have an agreement/handshake deal- but thats not legally binding.
This is a good deal for the Canucks- buying 2 of his best years agewise, for a guy who should get 30-40 goals /year. Doesnt make signing Horvat any easier- but if theyre going to move out anyone its more likely- Boeser and/or Garland.

Apparently him and Pettersson get along well so I've been under the impression that keeping him is apart of keeping Pettersson next season.</div></div>
Who is offering a first round pick on a UFA that's played 47 career NHL games? I'm certain that Alvin would have accepted such an offer if it existed.

I would think a first round pick would have been the minimum they got back for him</div></div>
You're wrong, he would have been a rental, he wasn't set to become a restricted free agent, he was set to become an unrestricted free agent. That matters, now they'd get more at the deadline, it was actually good asset management for a change.
