All of this makes sense. I do have one question though.
Why wouldn’t you buyout Murray and keep the 1st rd pick?
I think Gustafson will cost quite a bit more.
I think Oreilly will stay for less and more term, 4 x 4.5
I would sign Bunting, his 60 pts and the energy he brings are valuable. Offer 5 x 3. That’s cheap for guy who can play 1 st line with matthews.
I would try for your deal but think 3 x 4 for samsonov and buyout Murray.

Jarnkrok has been brutal in the playoffs. Bunting isn't a power forward and is hated by the refs. ZAR has been scratched most of the playoffs. Brodie should be traded for a bag of pucks .</div></div>
Don’t know where to start. Obviously you don’t know much about how to build a roster.
1. Can’t trade Sammy he’s a RFA. Can trade his rights but why would you do that. Team likes and believes in him plus you need two goalies in this league. You go with Samsonov and Woll. Buyout Murray.
2. Leafs will be going 11 and 7 more. Gio is a great influence and plays well enough for 3rd pair.
3. Jarnkrok is the replacement Swiss Army knife when you don’t sign Kerfoot. He can play up and down the lineup when needed.
4. Bunting definitely needs to tone it down but all he does is put up points and insert energy. Who are you going to replace the 50-60 pts he gets with?
5. Brodie is going nowhere. Coach believes in him. He and McCabe played well together in playoffs.

Really close to what I believe will happen
Will not trade Murray. Will put on ltir or send him down. Yes I know that will not save much but will be done.
Will sign kemp for closer to 1.5
Bunting for closer to 3.0
Trade Robertson not roster him
Sign someone like Heinen but not for more than 1million. Think bunting 2.0…….
Roster only 20 guys most of the time and use marlies as a taxi squad.
All that gets them under cap barely and when Murray’s contract is up allows them money for willie and Austin.

Murray
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GenXHockey</b></div><div>So Toronto is giving up 3 assets for Matt murray? Dubas would lose his job.</div></div>
Huh?..
Toronto are getting Murray for 1.5 cap hit + 2 x 2nd rd picks and are giving up Abramov, a 5th and holl who is there 5th or 6th or 7th defenseman.
Murray gives them depth, a guy who has won 2 cups, and as stated is second guy in a goalie tandem.
Also note that that pick allowed them to maybe trade for Strome with Chicago.

How exactly would Murray be traded to the Leafs if Mrazek is not in the trade
Ottawa saves a ton of cash which matters to them. Murray is set to get paid 7 million and 8 million the next two years. They save nearly 9 million in real cash by trading him and retaining.
I see it as a 3 way where they trade and retain 50% and then that team trades him to leafs and restrains 50%.
Leafs pay 15 million in cash but only costs about 1.6 per season against cap each year.
I love Murray for under 2 million as part of a tandem with Campbell or Kuemper at around 5million a year.

I am also intrigued by the Matt Murray idea. He’s not ideal but did win two cups and is a definite upgrade on paying Mrazek 3.8. Not sure I love it but honestly can see some merit and of course there is the Soo connection dubas would like.
Like moving muzzins dollars, not sure CBJ would buy but maybe someone else would. The point here is that they can replace him with Sandin and Lub for less combined.
Your contracts for the leaf resigns of Engvall, Campbell, Kase, Sandin and Lube seems realistic
Domi amount seems light but I do like his fit.

1. Fluery not interested in Toronto and not playing anywhere for league minimum. If he is then of course dubas would sign that deal.
2. Subban like giordano and spezza has made his money and might want to play at home in Toronto for close to league minimum. Could he get more elsewhere, sure but it’s not unrealistic to say he may valu3 playing in Toronto more then the cash.

Fun idea thanks for sharing.
Matt T is not signing that deal and I expect him to hold out for more just like his brother did.
Johnny hockey will sign back in Calgary or move to New Jersey or Philly or Pittsburgh (replace Malkin)
You evaluation of dollars for the leaf resigns seems realistic but I think Engvall will be higher ( 3 x 1.75) is my guess
I don’t think Campbell signs for less then 5 million a year. He loves Toronto and you did add 5th year but still think he gets paid more.

Campbell - Devils
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Reporting - “Sources indicate Toronto are in discussion with New Jersey around a trade for MacKenzie Blackwood”
Speculation - “The leafs may want to add a goalie and the Devils could look to make a change. Maybe these two teams could match-up on a Blackwood trade”
Big difference
The Devils have always been very tight-lipped (and have fewer beat reporters) so information does not come out often. Which is why we get these speculations that turn into rumors when there is no evidence.
<em>“The Devils are shopping Blackwood”</em>. No evidence of that. If anything, the GM and MackBlack has patched things up and team has recommitted to him for year.
<em>“The Devils are shopping 2nd overall pick”</em>. Again, no evidence at all. Our GM answered one question about moving his 1st round pick with a “would consider anything that helps team” type of response. That was before the lottery and it has snowballed since.
“<em>The Devils are not going to qualify Miles Wood</em>” there has been nothing about this from team. Fitzgerald has said he wants him back, considers him a big part of team, and Miles Wood has said he wants to come back.</div></div>
All fair comment but I think you would agree that devils need an upgrade in goal and there is no doubt that Campbell would be an option that would give them that.
I choose devils but could just as easily suggested it be Edmonton who also need a goalie and might pay a draft choice to secure rights to Campbell before he goes to market.

Point is supposed to be Campbell fits long term plan for devils and that they may wan5 to move on from Blackwood who frankly hasn’t worked out for them as hoped. His inclusion isn’t of much value to leafs as he is going to be overpaid at 2.8 million for what he will be.
So you would rather keep Blackwood and sign Campbell and pay us a draft pick…….sure, what about a 3rd or 4th round pick in 2023

Not sure what differentiates speculation from reporters and my comment that it has been reported.
Campbell if he went to devils would be 4 or more years at 5 or more million so likely wouldn’t be paying that so he could “compete” for the job. I believe devils are moving to win now mode and will want an upgrade on Blackwood. Campbell is that player in my opinion.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logan_Ollivier</b></div><div>Mrazek has a far more proven track record than Blackwood. And it's been reported your GM wants to move on from him, so a guy who's been bad for over half his games played, doesn't have much value. Whether you want it to be different.</div></div>
1. chicago needs someone to play goal and they will need someone to play for Strome. Mrazek is able to play half the games on a bad team and isn’t good enough to steal games Chicago wants to lose during the “effort to rebuild” “dumping” that will be happening to gain higher placing in the draft the next few years. Kerfoot fits into any hole needed to and can be moved for a draft choice at next years deadline.
2. Strome is too old to fit the hawks stated plan for a total rebuild and Holl plus the two draft choices, plus the Mrazek/Kerfoot pieces are reasonable.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Erkadurk347</b></div><div>Devils counter with PK Subban’s rights for Timothy liljegren</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tintin</b></div><div>Can only see Sandin being of interest for the Devils in a Blackwood trade.
Rights to Campbell ain’t it.</div></div>
3. Like it or not Blackwood has little value and getting anything back like the right to sign Campbell is something real. The dream that sandin will be thrown in to make deal for him isnt real and the point was that devils need a starter to take the next step in becoming a winning franchise. Reports are that they will be active on Campbell.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Aussie_Blackhawk</b></div><div>Thats going to be a no from CHI. We are open to moving Stromes rights but we don't want all that cap in return on a rebuilding team blocking young players chances to play and develop.</div></div>
4. See above…. I think that the cap room isn’t the issue that makes Chicago do this. Strome is going to get 3+ in arbitration so it’s similar to kerfoot. The goal would be to trade kerfoot, holl for draft choices to add to the other two. From my read that’s how you start a total rebuild, by getting multiple draft choices in multiple years. In this case it’s 4 choices for Strome + a proven sieve in net to assure games are lost as needed.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>adawg</b></div><div>why would the devils trade their starting goalie for UFA rights? thats a huge overpay</div></div>
5. As stated, Blackwood hasn’t worked out and really has only had one good season. That’s now 3 seasons ago. Devils want guy who can win now and Campbell proved in Toronto he can be that guy. The right to negotiate prior to free agency has proven worthwhile and might be difference between signing him or not. You want more, sure let’s add a player/ prospect on wing.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Devil</b></div><div><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Tom Fitzgerald on <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/NJDevils?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">#NJDevils</a> Mackenzie Blackwood: “There’s still a lot of development…Unfortunately, with the injury this year and him [not getting back to] 100%, that's okay. We just want him to be 100%”</p>— Amanda Stein (@amandacstein) <a href="https://twitter.com/amandacstein/status/1522296199260344320?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">May 5, 2022</a></blockquote>
Where does it say he wants to trade Blackwood? Can’t be making stuff up now. And Blackwood has more value than Mrazek easily</div></div>
6. See above, Blackwood isn’t being traded for Mrazek. In my evaluation Blackwood has little value as anything more then a backup.

Allow me to enlighten you…….
Holtby is better then Mzarek and is cheaper and is free agent at end of season. That means if soup goes down we have a better replacement and we have mzareks money to sign soup next summer. And we have money to spend at trade deadline for a replacement for Holl.
Dermott is not making the leafs as anything but a depth guy but would be nice cheap replacement for Arizona when they trade Chychrun

Ok so explain why we want Crouse……and then you put him on 3rd line.
We have no chance to resign him since all our money is going to sign Soup.
You gave up a roster player in Engvall who kills penalties and already fits in.
We already have Engvall, Clifford and Ritchie (no one will claim so he sits as depth piece at Marlins) who all fit basically that same roll.
Wouldn’t we be better with a depth defensman or two.
