Building the Leafs One Comment at a Time
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockeynutter</b></div><div>The best three trades I have seen or thought of for Marner is something like Marner to Ottawa for chyc, Norris and a future second. Marner is part of sign and trade deal. Ditto for rest here.
Marner to Vegas for Theodore and Karlsson and a future 3/4 pick. Marner to Seattle for Larsson and Wright and a pick.
These trades help match salary, and give Toronto what is needed in any trade. A top 6 forward to help replace the 100+ ppg average Marner gives and a top 4 defenseman. Leafs won't get the best player in the trade but if we can better balance the lineup, it could be a huge win. The problem is would Marner waive to these teams and resign .</div></div>
For the Seattle trade, what kind of a pick would they need to make it work

In my opinion, even if the Kraken's pick is valuable, I think Toronto goes for something more tangible than a 1st with the Marner Trade. Probably more like Gourde/McCann and Larson for Marner

Is this Realistic for 2024-25
While the traded team may not be perfect, a team will accept that trade, so I think this rebuild is realistic, i could even see less money for Tanev and Duchene if they win the cup

Top-50 UFAs available this offseason
I think the depth of this FA class is really special, as you could argue outside of the top 10 who is most valuable. I think goalie is the weakest value, but the presence of Ullmark and even potentially Saros as trade pieces makes up for it.

Marner To 3 Western Contenders Trades
In my opinion I would rank these deals 1. Vegas, 2. Dallas, 3. Colorado, with the Avs offer not appealing to me right now. I think the Vegas one is the only one super likely to happen, at least in some form, but the Dallas one is somewhat intriguing.

Value is irrelevant? This is a trade.. Value is the only thing that matters. If you keep Marner, congrats, another Game 7 loss to Boston.

Ah yes, the Stars have nothing but center depth, but sure, trade the biggest prospect and a first for an overpaid Nazem Kadri

Vancouvers Tough Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WhoCares_ItsAFantasyGame</b></div><div>And I'm not going against that either. Lot of people say "Series is the goal next year!" .. I'd rather it continue to be an asset management and rebuild than a series run. We still have too many years of Gally and Anderson, they need a good 5th overall at draft which may result in that player going back to school or AHL depending on who they draft, and still another development year for players already here and in the AHL.
Where I'm on the fence is that VAN is offering a 2nd and a 3rd in your AGM while Hugues as shown he'll take a bad contract, but for a 1st overall. So, would VAN accept giving their 1st 2025 overall with the conditional protection of a top 10 which would flip to the 2026 1st without protection?
I'm guessing that would be Hughes' price for taking on that contract.</div></div>
My guess is it could be if that price isn't right, then it becomes something like Mikeyev and a 25 1st for a 25 3rd/equivalent value.

Vancouvers Tough Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WhoCares_ItsAFantasyGame</b></div><div>Not a bad trade, but I'd be surprised if Hugues takes in a two year contract for a 2nd and a 3rd. He's shown taking in that type of contract for a 1st, so don't know if VAN would consider that.
Also, with the cap for two years, I also think HABS will refrain as they will want to either get a 10M$+ players by trading or UFA this summer or next year.
Not saying it ain't a fair trade you put out there.. just wondering if they would consider it given those points.</div></div>
My big question with Montrael this season is what they go for. They've been firmly in the basement since the cup run. To me, this is still an asset managing year, hoping to find more regular season success before the actual push next year.

Give Tanev 2-3 years and I think this works well, though I'd rather go with Duchene and get a cheaper RD than Montour personally

This just feels... wrong. Not bad, just wrong with what the Stars are building right now. I'm not sure trading Bourque makes sense while buying out LIndell and keeping Suter.

Also, and I'm not sure how much you moved the roster around, but Johnston shouldn't be on the fourth line. He arguably jumps into the top.

I'd rather honestly keep a Petrovic or move up Bischel than sign Martinez, but a pretty good blend of roster. Harley's contract will need to be higher, probably

Both have shown interest in resigning with Dallas. Given the team's contending status, I see them taking a discount to go for a cup/another cup.

Fair, but better to mock giving up too much than not. I think honestly a third and a fifth to a team like SJ, who needs to hit the cap ceiling and is still tanking, could be fine

Honestly, I'm not sure Dallas would trade Esa, especially since defense is the element that needs the most help. Depth on offense isnt needed at this point

A No Frills Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheMooterus</b></div><div>This is roundabout what I have the offseason looking like for Dallas. I'm not so sure Nill is willing to trade Faksa, especially at the cost of a 1st Round Pick, but I don't expect any major UFA signings outside of the guys Dallas already has in-house. Honestly, I expect Dadonov to be the odd man out for Dallas this offseason, especially with Bourque ready to come up and take his spot in the top-9
What I will push back on just a little bit is the lineup construction. I'm not so sure having Bourque center Dellandrea and Steel as the team's proverbial "checking" line would be the best idea. His skillset is going to be much more valuable to the Stars on one of their primary scoring lines.
Robertson-Hintz-Johnston
Marchment-Seguin-Duchene
Benn-Bourque-Stankoven
Steel-Faksa-Dellandrea
Smith</div></div>
On the topic of Dadonov vs. Faksa, I think these playoffs have shown how they see Dadonov, the player on the bottom line most likely to rise and who has the ability to move around the bottom six. Faksa, meanwhile, has barely played these playoffs, though he had the GWG against Vegas, and is more expendable. Given his higher cap hit, I see him as the option to go.
